The similarities between Chuck's harangue about Kim versus the speech from Shakespeare's 'Julius Caesar' (extolling how great Brutus was while secretly trying to destroy him) are spot-on....
Because he's fighting against his condition, not treating it. Like pretending to ignore or walk off a sprained ankle: you can only do it for a while before you can't fight it anymore...
Patrick Fabian (playing Hamlin McGill) is such a good actor, although doesn't get much appreciated. His expression starting at 1:23 - utter shock at what Chuck is saying, but that weirdo corporate smile he always has to keep up with...and then how he continues to say "that's a sad thing"...all the while actually meaning to say: "What the heck are you saying, Chuck!" But riding along with Chuck's truck, coz he believes so much in Chuck's ability.
After watchilg BCS straight through twice, I'm still not sure whether EM hypersensitivity is a real thing. But after BB and BCS multiple times, I still believe the Surgeon General was right about cigarettes.
Jesus, Chuck is so cringe here, to the point that this is hard to watch. If he had just been straight up and forward and said, "Look we respect your choice whoever you decide to go with. However, what I will say is that while we understand that Kim Wexler has her advantages over us in some respects, we can offer you the advantage of having more years of experience on this matter", he would have got his point across in a way that wasn't so slimy. This is a good example of his complete lack of self-awareness and inability to deal with people: he thinks that he is being sly here but in actuality his dishonest way of getting a message across is extremely transparent, and he seems to be completely oblivious of how much this puts people off of him.
You know, Chuck is a lot more like Jimmy than he would ever admit. Think of how conniving and duplicitous he is in this play. And the way he manipulated them into doing what he wanted. Just like the guy with the mouth. He’s slipping Jimmy, it’s just that his code of ethics is the law and Jimmy’s is his moral compass.
Chuck is the best, smart as hell, and hes always right, he warned jimmy and people really got hurt cuz jimmy abused the law, from all the chracters in this show, chuck is the last one ill consider a villain, personally ill start with jimmy
I'm surprised people called Chuck abusive when Jimmy abused Chuck's trust, gaslighted him and pretty much abused him. He is like those sons who forge their elderly father's signature and then tell them "you signed it, you just don't remember it!"
I heard somewhere that Chuck's malaise actually manifests when he's losing control of a situation, casually it started when he was "losing" his wife to Jimmy (solely because Rebecca was enjoying Jimmy's company) his worst meltdowns when things were not going his way. Last meltdown when he definitely pushed Jimmy aside.
Chuck is the antagonist to our protagonist Jimmy, so naturally we want Jimmy to succeed and Chuck to fail. But that does not excuse/ pull the veil over our eyes of Chuck being a con man in similar ways to Jimmy he just does it within the law while arrogantly holding his chin high, while casting it down on Jimmy for doing what he does just less subtly.
Hardly business the two founders of the firm would be aggressively targeting. I can see some experienced partners in their firm handling mesa more likely. The fact that the bank guy didn't questioned that shows he don't give a crap who their lawyer is
It's quite tragic that Chuck and Howard were both right, all along, about Jimmy. Even with Chuck's personal grudge against Jimmy, he was still giving sound legal advice to Mesa Verde here: no matter how good Kim is, she is still a one woman shop, she literally could not handle the workload.
3:15 I don't think I'd react well to being told what I do and don't know as a client, though maybe I'd ignore that from the ego-boost I'm getting from Howard and Chuck.
"Get me home." I can't stand people who don't say please when they need help. Who expect obedience instead of kindness and loyalty, because they can give neither themselves.
Chuck has no finesse, and it's frankly lucky he made that sale. The sale technique he was using is very advanced, and requires extreme care otherwise the potential client will see right through as we see here and likely even be offended. The only reason they made that sale is because Chuck realized that those two are what we in the sales profession would call dominant personalities, they're only intereseted in results, therefore he changed tactic a bit and mentioned the objective truth that a team would be better equiped to handle their b usiness than a single person. I'll give props to Chuck for the quick change there at the end, but he was still lucky he didn't lose them with that heavy handed pitch at the beginning. It's a fine line to walk; its basically the same as listing stregnths as weaknesses in a job interview, bad idea unless you're extremely good, and Chuck just isn't that good. Addenum: I'm extremly drunk so I don't remember names nor am I going to go back and proofread, so hopefully this all makes senser
You can see in Paige's face how uncomfortable she was about what was going on. She knew Kevin would end up going with HHM after this sales pitch, much to the detriment to her friend.

The similarities between Chuck's harangue about Kim versus the speech from Shakespeare's 'Julius Caesar' (extolling how great Brutus was while secretly trying to destroy him) are spot-on....
"Chuck, that was really good acting, pretending not to notice the EM fields. Why don't you just.... do that 24/7?"
Because he's fighting against his condition, not treating it.
Like pretending to ignore or walk off a sprained ankle: you can only do it for a while before you can't fight it anymore...
Patrick Fabian (playing Hamlin McGill) is such a good actor, although doesn't get much appreciated. His expression starting at 1:23 - utter shock at what Chuck is saying, but that weirdo corporate smile he always has to keep up with...and then how he continues to say "that's a sad thing"...all the while actually meaning to say: "What the heck are you saying, Chuck!" But riding along with Chuck's truck, coz he believes so much in Chuck's ability.
the foreshadowing in this scene is unreal
The obvious question Chuck's speech draws is: "If Kim is so good, and is an excellent choice... then why can't HHM do what it takes to rehire her?"
What a terrific show this was!
After watchilg BCS straight through twice, I'm still not sure whether EM hypersensitivity is a real thing.
But after BB and BCS multiple times, I still believe the Surgeon General was right about cigarettes.
Better call Chuck
Well clearly the transparent way never worked because Howard would have already tried that.
Michael McKean running a dramatic scene while still acting in a Christopher Guest film is one of my favorite parts of the series.
Chuck was the best negotiator ever.
Chuck's scenes grew on me over the years
And then Jimmy 1216 showed up...
Howard barks at Ernie like he Kim Jong Un with his translator
Chuck is the best, smart as hell, and hes always right, he warned jimmy and people really got hurt cuz jimmy abused the law, from all the chracters in this show, chuck is the last one ill consider a villain, personally ill start with jimmy
I'm surprised people called Chuck abusive when Jimmy abused Chuck's trust, gaslighted him and pretty much abused him.
He is like those sons who forge their elderly father's signature and then tell them "you signed it, you just don't remember it!"
Slippin' Chuck, those brothers were danger, Howard was confused at first but then he knew it was business going on
I heard somewhere that Chuck's malaise actually manifests when he's losing control of a situation, casually it started when he was "losing" his wife to Jimmy (solely because Rebecca was enjoying Jimmy's company) his worst meltdowns when things were not going his way. Last meltdown when he definitely pushed Jimmy aside.
This is the exact moment when Chuck became Slippin' Chuck
He really is Slippin' Jimmy's big brother and it shows!
Chuck and Jimmy are cut from the same cloth after all.
Chuck could have had his suits custom lined with that blanket material, treat it like armor.
Scenes and dialogues like this make me think BCS is Vince's magnum opus.
Chuck was great at being the voice of doom.
Lenny from Lavern and Shirley done got old like the rest of us!😂
Chuck is the antagonist to our protagonist Jimmy, so naturally we want Jimmy to succeed and Chuck to fail. But that does not excuse/ pull the veil over our eyes of Chuck being a con man in similar ways to Jimmy he just does it within the law while arrogantly holding his chin high, while casting it down on Jimmy for doing what he does just less subtly.
And they wonder why they got a counter blow.
I'm gonna tell my kids; Kevin is Olaf Scholz before he became the german Chancellor
This is when you realize Chuck is as good as Jimmy when it comes to bullshitting their way into getting what they want
What part of this is "bullshitting"?
2:06
"The penalty for even the most honest errors can be devastating"
Yeah, like an addres number 😏
Hardly business the two founders of the firm would be aggressively targeting. I can see some experienced partners in their firm handling mesa more likely. The fact that the bank guy didn't questioned that shows he don't give a crap who their lawyer is
This is the moment chuck became slipping chucky
This is when Chuck became the Bay Harbour Butcher.
Chuck looked like a delivery bag, what that blanket around him
I'm yet to watch any of Better Call Saul - but I feel I've watched the whole thing through youtube videos
why not just watch the show?
@@Zack29810 haha I just haven't got to it yet but I will eventually watch it
@@Darther659 gotcha! have you seen Breaking Bad or nah?
It's quite tragic that Chuck and Howard were both right, all along, about Jimmy.
Even with Chuck's personal grudge against Jimmy, he was still giving sound legal advice to Mesa Verde here: no matter how good Kim is, she is still a one woman shop, she literally could not handle the workload.
It wanst risky play. It was the ONLY play that Chuck alone could have pulled off
3:15 I don't think I'd react well to being told what I do and don't know as a client, though maybe I'd ignore that from the ego-boost I'm getting from Howard and Chuck.
No offense, but for a channel dedicated to posting Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul clips, you'd think poor audio wouldn't accompany the clip.
I gave them cookies 😂

As if I could ever make such a mistake!
Never. Never!
@@neothe1st644I just- I just couldn’t prove it!
He'll never learn! Ever since he r@ped our mum. But not our Saul. Couldn't possibly be our Saul Goodman!
"Get me home." I can't stand people who don't say please when they need help. Who expect obedience instead of kindness and loyalty, because they can give neither themselves.
Just loved “Better Call Saul” I thought it was better than “breaking Bad”
Imagine if they turned around as soon as Chuck was about to faint. 😅
Addenum: I'm extremly drunk so I don't remember names nor am I going to go back and proofread, so hopefully this all makes senser
he chucked for too long and he died
fine ill watch better call saul again
You can see in Paige's face how uncomfortable she was about what was going on. She knew Kevin would end up going with HHM after this sales pitch, much to the detriment to her friend.
Chuck's hatred for his brother repulses me. No wonder he thought 'f*ck it'
Remember that Jimmy's selfish embezzlement from their parents' business ruined them and destroyed the family. A valid reason for hate. IMO.
@@zitherzon2121its unknown how much of that was actually due to jimmy as opposed to their fathers bad business practices. Also chuck assumes jimmy stole 10000 but jimmy denies this, even to marco his friend. Its certainly not confirmed in any case
As annoying as it would have been, Jimmy should have let them keep Mesa Verde. Would have been better for everyone.
If ever there was a character that was Lawful Evil, Chuck would be it.
Lawful neutral*
The worst thing he did was taking back a client that was previously theirs when he didn't need it, that's nothing compared to what actual evil characters do.
Why is the sound quality on this video so poor? lol
