I honestly love Jimmy and Mike’s relationship. They aren’t friends, their personalities don’t match, they don’t even really “like” each other all that much. But, each recognizes and respects the other’s talents enough to have a reliable partnership for many years.
Problem is that Mike eventually lost all respect for Jimmy/Saul and saw him as a purely self-interested weasel devoid of all morality. Which is why he was willing to beat him up at the drop of a hat in BB. If he had respected Jimmy, he would have never used a second lawyer (the one who eventually ratted Mike out and got stabbed in prison), but he just didn't trust him.
If only Mike had said that to Walt, he might've survived. "Here's what's going to happen, Walter: You're gonna give me the money bag, you're gonna slowly hand over the gun I had hidden in there, and I'm gonna drive away. Then you're gonna go back, give Jesse his share, and then go on doing whatever the hell it is you choose to do."
I love how you can read Jimmy so well in this scene, how he gets convinced to go with Mike's plan when he hears the background. Jimmy was smart enough to spot a corrupt PD when they started talking to him.
I love how he's all "I'm not gonna do it." And then the second he realizes what Mike did, and how he can respect why he did it, he immediately goes and does it.
It doesn't, but from my understanding of US law it, is battery. Assault means intent to injure and/or making someone scared for their safety. Battery refers to unwanted or uncomfortable physical contact. By that definition, knowingly spilling coffee on someone is roughly on the same bar as spitting on them. It's unlikely to get called up especially if no one knows it was on purpose, but you know.

"Don't let Mr. Ehrmantraut's dancing eyes and bubbling bon vivant personality fool you. He's actually-believe it or not-somewhat taciturn." One of my favorite BCS lines of all time. Right up there with: "The world is a rich tapestry, my friends."
A lot of people disregard the first three seasons as substandard, when they are filled to the brim with excellent dialogue, including how Jimmy is able to subtly roast the police officer at 3:06… I thought the first three seasons are fantastic when it comes to its writing and acting, pretty much on the same level as House MD… The latter having the sharpest writing on par with BCS.
Jimmy was being serious about not spilling the coffee on the Philly cop right up until he heard about Mike’s son being mysteriously killed on the job. You can see how his face changes immediately to feel empathy for Mike as he hears the story. This show is full of amazing actors.
i like how at 4:43 the corrupt detective says “this is a hail mary, beyond that even.” he was letting mike know that they have nothing on him in a subtle way
I like that you can see Jimmy's gears begin the turn as he hears the story about Mike's son. He's very quickly putting the pieces together which allows him to put Mike's strange request to spill coffee on the investigators into context.
Jimmy’s line “don’t let Mr Ehrmantraut’s dancing eyes and bubbly bon vivant personality fool you, he’s actually, believe it or not, somewhat taciturn. Shall I fan you gently?” is just amazing. It’s like they had one chance to do the most indulgent over the top Saul line, and they turned it up to 11.
Each and every scene is so great, I liked how Saul suddenly realized Mike wasn’t only the parking guy when he heard the detective, and in that moment he decided that he will actually spill the coffee. We all have a story, and only when we humans realize so, we feel empathy for the others.
The young one strongly suspects Mike and gets really angry, because he's an 100% clean idealist who would want to arrest Mike, understandable motive or not. The old one is of a stance where he pretty much knows Mike did it, but wants to let it go, because two corrup cops killed his son and he killed them, because there was no other recourse.
You can see Jimmy's change of opinion as the scene goes on and he is told the cops' side of the full story. I'd have done the same thing given the circumstances and the story.
If your being brought in to a police station for ANY reason, you're under suspicion. Why did Mike need to grab the guy's notebook to find that bit out?
