- It's been a month since i originally bought the Prevue Small Animal cage off of amazon. Now it's time to clean this thing! Enjoy the relaxing music while watching me tackle cleaning this thing for the first time. Ms. Frizzle my foster hamster also makes an appearance in this video, encase you were a fan of this high strung gal! Enjoy.

Omg I got the same cage but I used double that amount of bedding 😳 I thought we were supposed to put 8-12 inches?! I thought 6 was bare minimum?? I swear it always looks like they only have around 4 🤔 like seriously always...
I’m confused am I putting too much or is she putting too little?? The pan was measured as 8 inches deep right & shes filling it about halfway??

I already have her cage set up but it took a ton of bedding, it’s even bigger than it looks in videos! One small bag of carefresh didn’t even fill half & I had to open a bigger bag. The cage is bigger then pet store guinea pig cages even! Hoping my new hammy really likes it 🐹💕🐹💕
@@MissEddieBlueKawaiiKrafts :) did you get her yet??!Hmm well this video was 2 years ago, so maybe her care has changed a bit since then? I also find with barred cages you can’t go to the top or the fluff gets everywhere! For Syrians usually they will push their bedding into a big pile on one side for their nest, so maybe she’s figuring the ham will take care of that. It does seem like more fluff is better, but I think it also depends on your hamster. I have two robos and one loves to burrow and the other hardly burrows at all and mostly stays in side of her cage with less bedding/in her sand bath. So, probably depends on your ham :) 🐹 ❤️
England has gone back a bit with cages . Our animal rescue place RSPCA has now teamed up with pets at home . ( like your pet co )

There are some pretty tiny cages in my pets at home, sad that some people don’t do research and a lot of hamsters have to live in them as the owners don’t know better

I only really watch hamster cage cleaning when i'm mostly watching to see the setup for inspiration, but I like cleaning out my hammie's cage, mostly because I know that the hamster is more comfortable that way.

Am I the only one that loves cleaning the cage? It’s just so satisfying and makes me feel happy to keep my hamster clean and happy.
I love that part it’s makes me feel good knowing that my hammy has a clean and comfortable environment to live in!
I've had one of these for my pet for awhile. I'm astonished how crazy expensive the Prevue Pet Products 528 cage has gotten to be. To anyone considering buying a Syrian (or Golden) Hamster, please make sure to get a LARGE enclosure for it. I personally believe its cruel to not give them a lot of space to live in. If you can't afford a decent cage like this, there are many tutorials on UA-cam on how to make bin cages.

I got this cage for my newest Hammy and just cleaned it for the first time... 1.5 hours later and I’m finally done.. jeez that was a lot of work, but totally worth it to see my Louis happily exploring his new set up!

I have a question. I have right now a bin cage that is 23 gallons (or 92 quarts) and I am wanting to make sure it is big enough for my dwarf hamster. If it is not big enough I will get her a bigger cage. Thanks!
Without measuring the actual bin, i wouldn't be able to tell you but from owning the 27.5 gal bin and the 29 gal bin, those bin cages are right around 500 sq inches from target. If yours is a 23 gal bin, that would possibly be smaller than 450 sq inches. I would suggest upgrading.

Recommended toys and accessories for hamsters - do’s and don’t’s (including homemade and store bought). Also more in depth videos of how to tame your hamster, different signs of distress - how to fix it, etc.
I’ve grown up having different kinds of dwarf hamsters and I’ve always tamed them and had loving hamsters who like to be held and love their home. However in the last month I got a Syrian hamster for the first time and despite researching before hand Syrian hamster care and basic do’s and don’t’s etc I still find myself googling/UA-cam searching answers to different things. Haven’t been able to tame her enough to hold her yet but she seems happy enough in her home, but it’s always nice to watch videos to learn more of how you can help them:)

Your cage is almost the same as mine, but I have a hamster trying to run out the door whenever it’s open to climb all over my face.
We got a cage like that but a little bit bigger where my older sister put her guinea pig Jack in. He died a couple months back sadly because he got an illness on how poorly my older sister took care of him. I was wanting to get a hamster but the wires are too far apart. Im now gonna look into that cage since it seems decent i also finally made up some room for the cage now i gotta get the money for it.

Munchie's Place thanks for the quick reply! I have a DIY (made from a TV Armoire) for my 2 hams in which each enclosure is a little bigger than a 40 gallon breeder. I also own a Marchioro Kevin 82. I’m obsessed with new cages, so this is a possibility for the future. Thank you👍

I have this same cage. I don't use the second level. It was too complicated to take out and clean. I take the cage apart once a week and put the bottom tray in the shower and rinse it out. I remove everything that is washable and do so. Makes it much easier. It is a great cage and my hammy seems happy. The cage never seems to smell and if he was toys that start to smell like pee I replace them.
Cosmic you are not supposed clean your hamster cage that much nor go all out like that. You are also removing their natural scent that makes them feel safe and familiar.
Do you or anyone in the hamster community talk about what products you use to clean and how frequently you should clean? I was under the impression you only needed to spot clean 1/2 one week and the other half next week since you could put too much stress on your hamster

I love watching your vids about this cage, I currently keep my Syrian in a 44-gallon tote bin cage, but he's so skittish that the lid coming on and off really scares him, so I'm considering buying this cage. It's been super helpful to see you set it up/measure it/ etc. Hopefully next paycheck I'll get it for my shy dude!
I just transferred over Sahara to this cage and she's been extremely shy and jumpy in her 50 gal bin cage. Since putting her in here, she's come up to the bars more frequently. It may help you and your little one. They also just tend to get scared if something is coming at them from overhead since they're a pray animal.
That's good to hear that she's coming out of her shell! I agree, even a confident hammy might think "Oh no, here comes a predator swooping down!" when you reach in from overhead. I'm glad that it's working for Sahara, hopefully my little guy Sesame takes a liking to it as well :)

You should spot clean your hamsters cage, which means to clean where your hamster mostly does their business, then clean the whole cage once a month.
would you recommend this for mice? im always scared that the bar spacing is too big on the cages. I really want to upgrade them and this looks awesome!
Aren't you not supposed to take out all the bedding at once? It stresses them out since they can't find their odor. I'm confused.
Do you think this cage would be good for my syrian hamster, she's chewing the lining of he tank and i tried giving her chews, do you think its because she wants to climb?
The lining of the tank is usually the first thing any and all hamsters chew on. They either like the texture or want to get out. Even if you were to get something bigger (40 Gal Breeder Tank is Actually bigger than this cage), the hamster could still want more stimulation or want out. It's very hard to meet their needs when in the wild they can run anywhere from 2-5 miles a night. But bigger is always better for most. The only Hamster in my care that likes a smaller tank is my Robo, possibly due to feeling secure in a small area since he's the frightened one with behavior issues.

You can remove all the bedding just make sure to keep a little of the clean previous bedding so the scent still is there😊

I have a question how many inches Is that wheel cause I have a 12 in. So is that too big?
12 inches are only too big if you have a roborovski or possibly small dwarf who cannot push it. Usually 12 inch wheels will work for Syrian hamsters.

The wires are perfectly spaced out for Dwarfs and Syrians. :) No escaping from this cage.

I use to have Tiny Friends Farms sand in there but i had to switch it out for Kaytee Granule Blend Bedding. My Syrians like digging around in it so it's a substitution till Tiny Friends Farms lowers their price back down to a reasonable price online so i can buy the sand for the dwarfs cause i think i want to keep this for my Syrians since they love it.
Munchie's Place aw okay i see thank u so much! omg i bought the tiny friends farm sand for $20 and dont buy it!! the product changed and they sent me grey sand with dust all over the place! in the future can u do a review if mine had a defect or the product really changed because there was literally dust all over the cage the next day. im returning it

I was once pet sitting a guinea pig and 1. It was alone and 2. I was in a cage smaller than that and the igloo took up half the cage 😢
