- In this video, Simone reviews the all new Genesis GV80, the first-ever SUV from Genesis.
Closely related to Hyundai, Genesis didn't really have to start from scratch in the SUV development, but the GV80 is a very different beast! Just like its sedan siblings, the GV80 is aimed to battle against revered German counterparts like the Mercedes-Benz GLE or the BMW X5 and that is some tough competition.
Genesis is really coming into its own as a luxury brand. Compared to the German counterparts, the prices of the GV80 have a smaller range and it is not as clearly pitted against specific models as BMW and Mercedes are.
Those two tend to follow each other, with almost every version and trim having a direct counterpart on the other side. The GV80 is a bit in-between. It starts for more money than the entry-level X5 for example, but it’s more powerful and with better specs. At the very top end, it lacks an offer against the beastly V8 GLE63 AMG, but the top-specced GV80 is about half the price. It's even significantly cheaper than the top non-AMG offering. You can get into the premium segment and even shop around a bit and still pay significantly less.
Judging by the first look, the Genesis GV80 seems to be more than a viable competitor. However, it’s main appeal from the industry point of view is the notion that this is just the beginning for the GV80.

I'm seriously considering getting this over X5 and GLE. This doesn't look any cheaper or less premium than the other two and as long as it drives well and offers a comfortable ride, I will definitely choose this and save 20-30k + less visits to the dealership for a routine repairs.
genesis lose it value like crazy. after 5 year it worth nothing.
@@dwadd7528 Nope, their value holds up well.
@@niharpotluri9472 lol i can tell you first hand that it does not hold value well...
@@rssazn123 What models are you talking about? Because I looked at some 2017 g80s and they have depreciated at the same amount a mercedes e class depreciates.
Also its hard to predict right now because Genesis is such a young brand.
The badge says else. Dressed up Hyundai
This SUV is so gorgeous 😍definitely considering getting one even though I hate SUV’s
Same here. Will be my first.
Get the g80. Looks really close In Design
cheap chinese fake Bentley.
@@dwadd7528 Hi, it‘s from South Korea.
chinese knockoff Bentley. Only shameless buy one.
So pretty, the car and the presenter, both.
Genesis has a hit with this one.

I've watched maybe 90% of GV80 reviews and this the most well written and presented of them. Great work!
So you dont look Asian Petrolhead, Alex on Autos or Redline Reviews?
Simply stunning... The car too. Unlike the modern trend of trying to look emotional and angry, this design is confident and composed like classic luxury car designs.
looks luxury and refined. i love their bold offering of exterior and interior colours, really luxury interior, blind side cameras in the gauges are awesome touch... however i think 70 series (g70 and gv70) looks the best from the current Genesis portfolio...
i wish them luck to succeed.
I went to visit family in Korea last month, and was lucky enough to spot a few on the streets of Busan and Seoul. My heart literally melted once I saw one in person, absolutely stunning road presence.
I hope the U.S. market will have the option for those gorgeous matte paint options, like the Korean and Australian variants have. 🤞🏼
Wow. I can't believe why you would ever consider the german counterparts unless they were to price match Genisis.
Because of a thing called Badge Snobs.
Cause someone people don't want be seen in a dressed up Hyundai. Imagine paying all that money just to be told it's a Hyundai
People seem to care alot about what others might think. No wonder so much depression around.
@@miatand1156 your point is?
Isn't that what luxury stands for people pay for the badge to be seen above everyone else? So no way people in luxury market would spend all that money to be seen in a dressed up Hyundai. Unfortunately that's human nature and whole point luxury brands.
@@sleepyjoescumbag1663 my point is that these people are not reflecting what I choose. I choose to buy and drive what I want not what I think others think or as you say to think that I am better because I paid a shit load extra for a particular brand. I just think that's not human nature but brainwashed minds and illogical thinking. But hey perhaps you have allowed others to dictate all your choices. I hope that's working out for you. I gave that a go when I was 13.
Great shots of the beautiful Australian countryside.
Car look great. Like to see a spec for spec comparison, including service costs, against the Germans.
Thanks Brad, we too would love that. Will speak to the producer and see what we can do.
5 years unlimited kms warranty. 5 years free servicing/75000km, whichever comes first. They come and get your car and leave you with a complimentary car while they service your car. When it's done, they deliver your car, and take the complimentary car. 5 years roadside assistance also included. So in the first 5 years, technically it should be cheaper to maintain than the German counterparts
Man, that matte paint is fire!
love this vehicle
fake and cheap.
Great looking SUV from Genesis!! Best wishes from Mexico!!!!
It is not just $20-30K saving on price difference against German SUV but also saving over 5-10 year ownership on GV80 against Merc or BMW would be quite significant without doubts. It is worth watching US review on Genesis.
WoW, the colour is stunning!
Very informative. I am definitely getting GV80. I was considering X5 before but after watching this video, I am going to test drive the SUV. Thanks.
That’s hot. As an X5 owner... this is definitely a challenger in the lux SUV category
Yeah definitely dressed by Hyundai that's what the luxury market is all about association with Hyundai will do wonders (sarcasm). No way in hell you drive a X5.
I bought my wife a top trim Palisade and it's an absolutely astonishing vehicle! So I know that the GV80 has to be nothing less than awesome!
When I saw my first GV80 on the road several months ago I was totally stunned! I had no idea what make of car it was. I was even more stunned when I found out that it was a Korean car! And I'm living in Korea !! Genesis GV80 is Super-GORGEOUS! THE BEST LOOKING SUV ever! It looks better than Porsche suv! Seriously considering this over other luxury SUVs. It is such an awesome looking SUV! We were planning on getting a Rover---but now it looks so ugly next to GV80. I'd love to get this SUV in the future!
Don't get a ranger rover..absolute money pit. Even worst than the Germans
It will be a gamechanger in the premium suv market.
Yes, the GV80 interior is stunning, and so is the reviewer.
I dont know what's more gorgeous her or the car!!!
wow, the interior is amazing !!!

Hello, from the USA here. You guys are lucky, we don't get the matte paint colors. I'm guessing it's because of our varied climate. Wish we got that diesel, too.
Great thorough review. Love the flat paint. Luxury vehicle throughout!
you said it looks absolutely stunning. i was thinking the same about you. but yes, i really like the Genesis GV80 and thanks for a great review
Not a SUV fan but very informative review. The S Koreans (both Hyundai/Genesis as well as Kia) have "arrived." I like that interior; looks competitive with the prestige Germans.
Your outfit is lovely - colors of the University of Texas! Suits you!
The front grill ... seats leather covers ... & the steering wheel ... bring an air of Bentley look.
Also ... the matte paint is a smart option 👍 ... cause the non-reflective bonet ... is sooo relaxing ... for the driver eyes.
Because the designer of this car also designed Bentley Bentayga. also he is korean
Very good video: but slight styling influence is Bentley Bentaga; not the others mentioned.
2:16 always nice to know you're getting pushed from the rear
I am really starting to like these car videos! Simone is so easy to listen to
I love the design in general its absolutely magnificent however the the triangle shape of side real window is a bit disappointed it should have a rectangular shape one so it does not look like cheap Honda CRV.
Imagine this moderfied. Matte Black, black fat rims. 🤤
They actually offer matte finish only on a few colors tho
The prices are in Australian Currency folks, do not have a migraine. You will need to convert it into your currency.
Lmao!! Thanks...I just saved money on migraine meds!!
Luv the looks all around from it's incredibly sophisticated and modern exterior lines to it's high tech & luxurious interior. This SUV has it all & that color is just amazing! Hyundai/Genesis just keep turning out great model after great model. The Germans should be worried let alone the Japanese with their inferior SUV's which can't compete with Genesis! And thanks Simone another great review!
Genesis Gv80 2.5 Gasoline Turbo. I am Korean. The option is Popular Package 20" Wheel Signature Design Selection 1 built-in camera.
I have Kia Cerato (K3) GT. Korean cars are very good :P
Wonder if it's more difficult to take care of that matte paint...but dang, it looks good. I'm getting this in a few years...and DEFINITELY getting those 22" tires/rims..
I have an Infiniti QX 70 and this reminds of the newer version. I would buy it
It should be noted that instead of being stylish in appearance and having many additional features, there are many problems with the basics of a car, and many of those problems have not yet been resolved. Everyone should know that they even went on sale without a solution to those problems.
Gv80 is very fantastic
She is so lovely 😍 and the car is nice to 😂
One of the best looking cars in 2021
This is the nicest big suv ever!
Beautiful color, like AMG
I’m finding that the most common phrase in car reviews is now *MASSIVE GRILLE*
Chrome delete and some new darker wheel and it would look mint 👌🏽 looks epic in that colour
Looking forward to Genesis coming to uk.Something different about them.
If the bonnet and grille was one piece just like old 90's Mercs, it'll be much more handsome!! Is Australia the only country for Genesis right hand drive?
I believe Genesis is going to eat into BMW sales, but probably not Mercedes Benz
Lolllllllllllllll that's the funniest thing I eve4 heard . You know why people tens of thousands more for a bmw ? One thing badge value . you get respected on the road onone gonna respect you and or think your loaded for driving a dressed up Hyundai. Why think Lexus failed against luxury brands ? One the association with a poormans car Toyota. Nobody luxury market looking at driving a dressed up Hyundai.
@@sleepyjoescumbag1663 sure Bob. Sure 👍
제네시스 만세~~~ 대한민국 제네시스 차량 정말 좋아요~~ 엔진 미션은 bmw benz에 아직 못미치지만 거기에 반해 승차감과 편의장비는 과연 최고라고 생각 됩니다~ korea figting
Are Matte paints available in the US???
Everything is excellent but please reduce this background noise if you want more people to join in please reduce this noisy background , again for god sake
10:26 - they're smart, by doing market segmentation and creating rivalries.. ultimately Germany benefits. Japan does this really well, too... with the Toyota/Honda and Lexus/Acura apparent rivalries.. and many similar models.
This is simply beautiful.....
The car, Tiger Woods had his crash with^^ Saved his life tho.
Very informative, The SUV looks fantastic, love to own one (Top of range though)
9:28 - It has a rear occupant alert sensor, just in case you drive down a haunted street.
Just let me add: the inerior seems copied from a Range Rover either Evoque or Velar...wihtouth the same appeal
gorgeous car!
Very detailed report. Well done 👍🏻
As long as they don't go the same way as Infinity...
Nice!! Except the front license plate is on the grill which is annoying🤣
You Did a Great Job in the Review! pass anything for Kia or Hyundai
What a gorgeous car
Awesone review! Nice car! Regards from Poland.
Compare to 3.3T or a direct injected V6, the new 3.5TT is based up on MPI and direct injection... This should help to solve the carbon building issues in the motor due to the EGR.. So many problems can be avoided as carbon particles are most problematic issues with the direct injection motor and turbo, as the carbon particles can build and break off to the turbo and valves and causes problems... The MPI method helps by using petrol as solvent to clean the carbon build up.. The engine operates on MPI on low revs and direct injection at high revs.. It was one of my many reasons to buy the GV80 over the Germans... It was cheaper for me to buy BMW X5 M pack inline 6, which I like, but I wasn't fan of mundane design and interior.. I used to own 2016 RR sports SE but this is more planted and stable on high speed.. The air suspension on RR was rubbish after 2 years, it started to leak and mushy.. And the equipment level was inferior.. for me to buy the same equipment spec, i need to spend $20,000 to $40,000 or more on RR or BMW.. I have done 12,000 kms on the GV80, and I would buy it again, if I need to replace it again..
Nice colour! Needs some red calipers though!
I thought that was great review. And not a bad suv compared to the others in its class
Excellent review, host and car. Professional! sadly I tuned out at the end when the price was mentioned. At least $20K overpriced. I'm very impressed with the vehicle though - Hyundai have done well.
You know that's in austrailian dollars right? The base model in US dollars starts at 49k and ends at 71k
@@kyh6767 Yes AUD.
@@brianhoward9217 so you expect a luxury car to be under that price? dude whatcha smoking?
@@kyh6767 Look JKL, to be frankl I only tuned in to experience the splendiferous Simone and started to actually enjoy hearing about the car. Having said that, yes, I do consider it a little overpriced for a relatively 'first-gen' model. Lexus started out in the 90s with a very reasonable price compared to the Euro-boxes until they proved themselves however the quality was there from day 1 due to the Toyota core engineering. I feel Hyundai/Genesis has a little more top prove although Lexus did show it could be done and did indeed pave the way for domination of the Euro camps. I'm not big at all on the whole SUV movement, preferring a sedan myself, but if I was looking to get an SUV I would seriously look at this against a BMW/Merc. I also like the look of the Genesis sedan. Oh, and I will admit to the occasional overuse of alcohol but happily I have always been smart enough to never smoke anything except crabs, ham, bacon, oysters and eels ;-) . . . Cheers from Sydney Australia.
I think the GV80 is THE BEST looking SUV on the road. I liked the Land Rovers and thought the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade were handsome...but the GV80 smokes everything out there, including the Germans... It's crazy how much Hyundai has raised their game in the last 5 years..
Great design!!! and thanks!
지리네요잉
gorgeous & beautiful SUV car ever
I think GV80 is the best looking car it the segment.
When will this SUV launch in india , what will be the expected price
Now I prefer this one over X5 and GLE
What color is this? Looks matte
Awesome vehicle.
Beauties all around, the BABE, the S.UV. , the Australian country.
Love the front, they over did it with the rear tail lights mimicking the front.
Fantastic front end 🤩
Who else here after Tiger unfortunate news
The side window is more like 2013 Santa Fe 😑
I’ve been in one. It’s better looking in person than on camera. Not a fan of the quilted pattern seats, a bit grandma like. The number plate position spoils the grill. The ride is not as sporty as an X5. It wallows a bit but it’s ok. Wouldn’t get a matt colour and definitely not white. I’m not driving a washing machine !! The price is too much for an unknown brand. Should be $15 000 less at least! I’d probably choose it over a euro brand only because it’s likely to be more reliable, though that’s unproven. End.
Not sure what looks better. The car or the presenter.
Yep, you look premium 😍
Looks Modern and elegance.
80k is way too much for this car. The price drop after purchasing is going to be steep. This brand hasn't been on the scene long enough although it looks nice.
Nice one Simone!
Did you prefer driving the G80 or GV80? If you had to choose.
11colors? wow. Not in US.
Why would the number plate be on the grill ?????
Ok I’m about to move to Australia 🇦🇺. Oh and the car is nice also.
Gv80 Coming in indonesia and malaysia and singapore ?
Poor Tiger wood!!!!
What is the tow capacity ?
Hm.... bit costly...
Red Hot Simone!
That is a beautiful car.
is that satin white color?
