I grew up listening to The Allman Brothers and it's been over fifty years now of enjoying them. They never feel old or dated or anything other than great.
This is the GOAT of The Southern Rock movement. Duane & Greg Allman, Dickey Betts, Berrie Oakley, Jamie, & Butch Trucks. Duane on the slide. Influenced bands like Lynrd Skynrd & The Outlaws.🎸
@@snodgrassgerald2352 Southern Rock is different from, say, Zeppelin-type rock for the most part and the Allman Brothers started the Southern Rock genre. It’s different from straight-up Blues too. I’m a late stage Boomer from Atlanta and I was SO LUCKY to have grown up with all this music around me. The lines are very blurry sometimes too. Led Zeppelin’s entire first album (definitely ROCK) wouldn’t have existed without Willie Dixon or Robert Johnson, some of the finest pickers to ever play the blues 😄. Willie Dixon’s estate even sued them for lack of attribution - and won. You’re right though, the Allman’s definitely played them some blues, but they also rocked (Whipping Post anyone?).
I grew up on The Allman Brothers, ABSoLUTELY still listen all the time! When Greg Allman passed a few years ago, it felt like I had lost a sibling. ..and Dickey Betts just passed a few months ago. I'll be looking for them when I get to heaven!
My fondest memory of Dickey Betts w Great Southern playing at a club back in the “80”s. He pulled me up onstage w one arm and gave me a French kiss. 😊 no groupie, I just danced to his songs
I’m so happy! My all-time favorite band. I live just 15 miles from Capricorn Records and Rose Hill Cemetery where the boys are buried. The place used to be crawling with southern rock bands and shows at the nearby lake or other nearby venues. Music was everywhere in the 70’s. You can never do too much ABB. Thanks, Polo! 🤟🏼
I've been listening to the Allman Brothers since early 70's. I remember being 10yrs old and hearing this album and falling in love with their unique sound. Saw them several times through the years and I rocked just as hard listening with you today as I was learning to back then. Whipping Post was my personal favorite from this album.
I'm 70 years old. Been a huge fan since the late 1960s. Have many of their songs on my playlist which I listen to daily. Still dig em, love me some ABB.
It's 5:30 am, I'm taking hubby for spinal surgery, I'm blazing and listening to the Allman Brothers. I decide to see what you're up to and I'll be... More Allman Brothers! You rock Polo! (We love you SkyDog! RIP baby, see you soon!)
Can’t get enough of the Allman Brothers. Stormy Monday from the Fillmore LP is the prettiest blues song I’ve ever heard. Listen to Mountain Jam when you’ve got the time.✌️❤️🎶
awesome awesome song , been a fan since 1968 when ist heard this band. been going strong since then.....southern soulful music that i've yet to feel since.
Im An old dude...was really into them back then...then listend decades later.....and they knocked me out all over again.. "les Brers in A minor" especially
All their music is great. Gregg Allan can sing rock, jazz, blues, gospel, and soul music. The are worth a deep dive starting with their first album. Thanks Polo! The video of this live performance is a must see.
A truly iconic song. Was played on AOR ( Album Oriented Rock/Radio ) FM rock stations on a regular rotation. The Allman Brothers Band are an incredible band. Loaded with great songs. Their talent was mind-blowing. If you haven't reacted to "Blue Sky" by TABB , do yourself a favor. Dual guitar solos. With some dueling thrown in, also.
Been listening to it for 50 years and it's still jammin! The original by Elmore James and the cover by Sonny Boy Williamson are excellent also but I think the Allman Brothers, as they paid homage to these guys here and on songs like Statesboro Blues/Blind Willie Mctell, took it next level.
I’ve seen them live so many times it’s crazy. Always a great show. I noticed many times as a sound engineer they would mix Greggs piano way down because he was drunk but he could still sing his ass off. Always a great show.
The Allman Brothers age fantastically! I’m from Macon, GA, where the brothers lived in the late 60s and 70s. They are still deeply loved by the older generation that is slowly dying off but they are just as beloved by the kids and grandkids of those folks. They get better the longer you listen.
I saw the AB’s from the 8th row, right in front of Gregg’s organ and 8 million stacks of Marshall amps. One of the only reasons I don’t mind being old.
Aged well...loved ABB for the quality of the music in my youth, still love it for the quality as well as the nostalgic look-back/feeling it provides now. I also actually appreciate the quality of their talent more in the here and now as I pay more attention to the talent displayed by the musicians that were more of just a soundtrack to my youth. Fun to watch you react to stuff I've appreciated for many years...we get to enjoy hearing it again for the first time through you and it makes me, personally, appreciate it more. 😁
Allmsn Brothers Band is one of the all time best Southern rock blues bands of all times. Dickie Betts who passed away a few years ago was an amazing guitar player.
"One Way Out" is a blues song that was recorded in the early 1960s by both Sonny Boy Williamson II and Elmore James. A reworking of the song by G. L. Crockett, titled "It's a Man Down Here", appeared on the Billboard record charts in 1965. In 1971, the Allman Brothers Band recorded an updated live version of the song, which was included on their popular Eat a Peach album (1972). It's also the opening song in The Dukes of Hazzard movie where Luke Duke gets caught on the second floor with a girl when her shotgun-totin' father and brother come home.
Yes, grew up with it , still listen to it. All of the early Alman Bros music was superb. I developed diverse taste in music at a young age and mostly listened to jazz and R&B but consider this music unique and always welcome on my playlist.
OMG! This is a great first ABB song to experience! Now imagine, outside in Memphis at the Overton Park Shell and it’s blasting and you’re high on the good 70’s vibes! I grew up with this band! I guess I still am! 😘✌🏼
Hey Polo ~ With some bands, their music is just timeless. The Allman Brothers Band is one of those. Been listening to them since they started and none of it ever gets old.
Yes, I can remember when I first listened to this album when I was 16. It has aged well because I am still listening to it. “Eat a peach” was a double album set. Some of it live. Greg Alman is the lead singer keyboardist. His brother Dwayne Alman who was on the slide guitar and was killed in a motorcycle accident in a collision with a truck carrying peaches in Macon Georgia shortly before this album was released. He was just 24.
That's what "back door man" meant in the 60s/70s. Husband leaves/lover sneaks in. Husband comes home/lover high tails it out the back door. Same as in Whole Lotta Love from Led Zep. The Allman Brothers were so great!
ABSOLUTELY!!! NOT her Dad...I just turned 70 on the 18th August and I had a few boyfriends calling me , when introducing me, as his "Old Lady",,,never offended... Also the song by the Doors..
This is the iconic Fillmore East performance- and there’s a video montage of it- it’s hard to believe Gregg ( vocalist) was only 20 on this one. What a great soul singer!!!!❤❤❤❤❤ Two drummers and two lead guitarists- Duane on slide! From the same show: Stormy Monday.
My all-time favorite group. It's almost an unfair that The Allman Brothers Band included both Duane and Dickey Betts, two of the finest guitarists in the history of rock. Boy do I miss those days and those guys.
This song is live from Fillmore East, no auto tuner or studio shit, you’re hearing the real thing. Been listening to the Allman Brothers band continuously since 1972, saw them live in Binghamton, New York in 1977 I believe it was.😊
Polo, I strongly recommend you listen to their live at the Fillmore East from 1970 it will amaze you it is a vast volume of work, great work. Been listening since I was almost in diapers and it never gets all these guys are swinging!
Butch Trucks (RIP) on drums (Jaymo to his left) is the uncle of Derek Trucks (Tedeschi-Trucks), who was playing guitar when the axe was taller than he was. On the old grainy live YTs , it looks like Duane is using a “true bottleneck” to play slide - the old Bluesmen would use a hot wire on a chilled empty longneck to snap it clean. Nobody sounded like ABB, from the first lick. . .there they were. 👊👍👍
I was blessed to have seen them when, Duane was still alive. ERIC CLAPTON has said Duane was his favorite guitarist. I saw them with Aerosmith, the first time they played at Indianapolis.
During a 90's interview, Gregg Allman points out the inherent redundancy of the term “Southern rock”: “Rock n' roll was pretty much born in The South - so was the blues, or at least a certain kind of blues. So saying 'Southern rock' is like saying 'rock rock. ' The Allman Brothers were the best example of Southern Rock, but .38 Special is right up there with them. "Hold On Loosely" is a good one to start with

I think Duane was long gone by Eat a Peach - but still the GOAT. Also Warren Haynes,,,,
@@datachickatl4092 Nope he played on all but 3 songs on this album. "Ain't Wastin' Time No More", "Les Brers in A Minor" and "Melissa".
Greg Hated that they were labeled southern rock! He said they were rhythm and blues. I Agree 💯
Alman Bros were blues band. not rock

The first and best of Southern Rock in my opinion. Love it!!
Their live shows were like the band and a bunch of friends getting together for a phenomenal jam session.
I grew up on The Allman Brothers, ABSoLUTELY still listen all the time! When Greg Allman passed a few years ago, it felt like I had lost a sibling. ..and Dickey Betts just passed a few months ago. I'll be looking for them when I get to heaven!

One thing about the Allman Brothers was their fantastic musicianship. Their brand of southern rock was great.
Those guys could really play - second to none!
Two drummers - Allman Brothers staple. Gotta have two drummers!!
Yep
Allmam brothers live at the fillmore east probably best live album of all time!
I’m so happy! My all-time favorite band. I live just 15 miles from Capricorn Records and Rose Hill Cemetery where the boys are buried. Any reason to listen to the Allman Bros is a good reason! Rock on!
Some of the best shows I've ever seen. Miss them very much.

Whipping Post really hits the soul. We all in some way feel like we are tied to that whipping post. Work home life etc. really hits the heart.
❤❤
RIP Duane & Gregg
🎶 🎸 💃🏻
And Dickey, and Butch, and Berry. Jamoe is the only one left, sadly.
One of the best Musical Performances EVER.
Glad you're discovering them.

You rock Polo!
(We love you SkyDog! RIP baby, see you soon!)
Eat A Peach should be in every music lover’s collection!!
Just obtained it from an “antique store “!! Plays well. ❤️
Can’t get enough of the Allman Brothers. Stormy Monday from the Fillmore LP is the prettiest blues song I’ve ever heard. Listen to Mountain Jam when you’ve got the time.✌️❤️🎶
I agree, Stormy Monday is a fantastic track. One of my favorite
One of the best JAMS OF ALL TIME ❤

the bass run on "les Brers in A minor" is the best! He drives that song
First heard this in 72, I was twelve. It was my 'pivot point' from AM pop to FM rock
All their music is great. Gregg Allan can sing rock, jazz, blues, gospel, and soul music. The are worth a deep dive starting with their first album. Thanks Polo! The video of this live performance is a must see.
Every time they perform they have 2 drummers playing at the same time!!! Awesome!
Been listening to the ABB since I was 10 years old. I'm now an old woman of 65 and still rocking out...great music never gets old!
YOU CALLED THIS OUT SO WELL 😆 One of my faves 🤩🎵
I mean, talk about tight. These guys were tight, tight, tight.
Try Midnight Rider or Whipping Post
A truly iconic song.
Was played on AOR ( Album Oriented Rock/Radio ) FM rock stations on a regular rotation.
The Allman Brothers Band are an incredible band. Loaded with great songs. Their talent was mind-blowing.
If you haven't reacted to "Blue Sky" by
TABB , do yourself a favor. Dual guitar solos. With some dueling thrown in, also.
The Allman Brothers are in a class all their own. Great songwriting, musicians and vocals. 2 drummers too!
Southern Bluesy Rock! ❤
Dicky Betts greatest slide guitar player ever IMO he just recently passed Rip Master 🎸💯
Dumass!😂
Wow, read something.
I absolutely love the Allman Brothers 🎉🎉🎉
Best band EVER!
I never get tired of hearing this song! Love it!
I grew up with these terrific bands, there nothing like that today ,fantactic !!

This is my favorite Allman Brothers song!
Two drummers in this band. Two Guitarist
Woodstock 94 they had 3 drummers. Was a great set
What makes the Allman Brothers unique wasn’t just two drummers, but also two lead guitarists. Bands at the time had one lead and one rhythm guitar.
If you get one Allman Brothers Band album, all you need is Live at the Fillmore East. They crush it. That song is made for cruising in your car. . .
Can not beat the jamming of Duane and Dickey!! Their stuff was the best!!RIP DUANE, Dickey, Greg, Butch!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great song. Love the return to the Allman Brothers. Wonderful reaction.
Yes, Polo, been there and done that in my young and dumb years.
I like their song "Jessica”. No words, but pure joy. Reminds me of summers in Northern California in the 70’s. Still love the song 40 years later 😊
This song got my toe tappin the first time I hear it in '72 and it gets my toes tappin and me singin to it now. Absolute great toon.😊
I’ve seen them live so many times it’s crazy. Always a great show. I noticed many times as a sound engineer they would mix Greggs piano way down because he was drunk but he could still sing his ass off. Always a great show.

I have to hear the Allman Bros every few months. It's been that way for a long time.
The artwork inside this album is groovy!
I love the blues, too! So exciting to watch you enjoy my favorite music 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Really? Cool to hear.
Check out "Blue Sky" by this band, if you haven't already..
You'll be glad you did.
My favorite band of all-time
I love the Allman Brothers! This song puts me in mind of Gimme Three Steps by Lynard Skynard. Thanks for your reaction. ❤
The Allman Brothers are one of my favorites. ❤
Definitely one of the best bands that my dad introduced to me and I am beyond thankful for that.
Nothing Better! Hell yeah!!! Soooo good!!
Saw em probably 10 times in Atlanta or Florida late 60s and 70s. Best jam ever.
Been listening to this one since it came out…on LP, on 8-track, and in Quadraphonic (that was a thing). In my Top Ten, for sure!
The album "Hittin' the note" is a master class in southern rock perfection.
My all-time favorite group. It's almost an unfair that The Allman Brothers Band included both Duane and Dickey Betts, two of the finest guitarists in the history of rock. Boy do I miss those days and those guys.
I love this Allman brother band! Rock and roll was popular when I was younger! Or, Everybody needs someone to love!
Greg’s voice. Perfect for the genre, and every musician an IKON.
The ultimate live band. You want to hear masterful musicianship you must listen to their encore song, the Mountain Jam.
Greatest live album of all time.❤
A popular tune when I was in high school. Good southern rock tune.

A good friend in Georgia won a dance contest to this song circa 76.
Their Filmore East lp is my traveling music. Incredible listen that never gets old, especially driving alone. ❤
Love it!!
Soulshine, Statesboro Blues, Stormy Monday & Midnight Rider❤
I just love them.
Polo... you're so expressive in this one ❤
On the same live album it's called Mountain Jam it's one side one get jam.✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
