🎼There was nobody like Dickey Betts. There was nobody like Greg Allman. Face it folks, there was nobody like the Allman Brothers.🎼☮️
😢😢😢😢
Don't forget Duane.....
@@joewiley62
Duane passed in 1971. His bro Greg in 2017. And Dickey 2024. I imagine Heaven is Ramblin Man…☮️
Allman brothers live at the fillmore was the greatest live album ever!!!
There are lots of people like Gregg. Snitches are everywhere.
A picture of Jessica?
That was Dickey Betts's 3 year old daughter, who was running around playing with toddler joy & abandon, and he wrote this song to capture the feeling of joy that she emanated ~ 💜
Thanks for the info!
I learned this some thirty years ago or so, and ever since cannot see a sweet lil girl romping in the field blowing bubbles and just being carefree.
From the retired W.A.S.P. R.I.P Dickie
She’s actually on the cover of the album “Brothers and Sisters”.
Ramblin' Man, Blue Sky, and In Memory of Elizabeth Reed are three more Dickey Betts tunes you need to hear.
We got to face it guys, we're losing our best musicians that this world's ever known. And I don't see a lot of people capable of replacing. Rest in peace brother!
Hey, I don't know what I was thinking! We've still got Greg Allman's son and Dickie bett's son and they're still together making music right? Maybe the future is brighter than I think. Peace!
Agree...fake (computerized) music is not music.
Some of the best of a genre or era but objectively The Best is a bit ridiculous.
@@anthonyv6962👺 what do you know! Punk…
Derek Trucks
One of the greatest instrumental songs ever. No doubt about it.
RIP Dickey Betts. Rock N' Roll heaven is getting one of the best guitarists ever.
Duane dude
The perfect example of what a jam band was, is, and should be
How many miles across Kansas can you go with this on your 8-Track...How many?
They jammed like no other
Amen ❤
Another great instrumental is "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed"
live is even better
Thanks
That was a classic in the day!
Elizabeth Reed I believe has Duane on it
My favorite instrumental !
One of the BEST American bands that have ever existed. FIRE.
I've often pondered: what American band was better?? Loved the Heartbreakers, Doobies..E Street Band not so much...for me its the ABB...
Dickey’s inspiration to write this came from watching his daughter Jessica playing as a child ✨
RIP and thank you sir
RIP to another great one, Dicky Betts
Yes, but he lives forever in his songs.
One of the truly great American bands, Southern Jazz. Rest in Peace Dickie.
I didn’t know Dickey Betts passed away. The Allman Brothers are a force to be reckoned with. For me the ultimate road trip music.
This is one of the most DANGEROUS songs to listen to while driving, as the song progresses your foot gets closer and closer to the floor, until you look down and you are doing 100mph and you don't even realize it until the song ends or the red and blue flashing lights in your rear view start pissing you off.
RIP, Dickey Betts~ 💜😔
Jessica is Dickey's daughter. Her mother is Dickey's ex-wife. She is a native American named Blue Sky, who Dickey also wrote a song about.
Blue Sky is one of my TOP 5 Alltime favorite songs
The “ Live From Fillmore East” album and vids is the greatest live show ever captured. They are pure students of the Blues, Gospel and Soul. “ One Way Out”
Yep, one of the truly great live albums. A lot of their material from when they were the house band at the Warehouse in New Orleans still survives and much of it is up there with Fillmore East
One Way Out, such a fun song to sing!
Definitely one of the greatest Live albums ever. But I would add Cheap Trick 'Live at Budokan' and Simon and Garfunkel 'Live at Central Park' in that conversation.
There's a man down there.
Might be your man . . . I don't know.
Hell yeah.
The greatest instrumental . . . . in the world! RIP Mr Dickey Betts, a true great. 😢
A part of millions of people around the world died when Dickey passed. Such a great talent, blessed to have seen him multiple times with the ABB, and will listen to his music forever. RIP Dickey Betts
I tell people sometimes, "Music's an art form, like painting. You don't need to add words to a painting, and you don't need 'em in music either."
The Allman Brothers made some great driving music, and Jessica's no exception. RIP, Dickey Betts.
Bingo!
Not my cross to bear is an amazing song from the Allman brothers. Gregg's voice gives me chills!!
Jessica was one of their children. The song was inspired by her as a toddler running into the room. It's a fun song to listen to with that in mind.
Dickey lived in my town. A home town boy. I’m very sad. The Allman Brothers are great. RIP Dickey❤
Sarasota?
Gotta listen to "Whipping Post" by the Allmans
he did that one awhile ago.
He did. That was his introduction to the group.
Hmm missed that somehow. Got to look it up
Naw he listened to the radio version.
@@brigitte9999 it was still Whipping Post. No one said he listened to the live version.
Rest in Peace Dickey ❤
That's the great Chuck Leavell on the piano. After his stint with the Allman Bros. he was with Eric Clapton Unplugged, with David Gilmour at Pompeii and for the last 25 years he's been the musical director for The Rolling Stones.
One of their drummers, Jaimo, was african american. One time while touring the south, a restaurant refused to serve Jaimo. The band told the restaurant, "then you don't serve us either." The band and road crew of about 20 people, got up and left. Eventually, businesses got the message. Their money was the right color, Green!
Eventually businesses got the message? They sure did, being a racist was pushed back into people’s closets, where it belongs. Other than that they remained racist. America remains a racist country. A lot of white peoples have a struggle with shame, one that has not been fully overcome today.
And Jaimo is now the only surviving member of the original six members.
Yep. Many people associate southern rock as being racist. Not the case at all. They were just southern hippies who wanted to spread happiness through music. I guess because southern is attached to the word rock. Jaimo is one of the best drummers out there as well.
A BBC Show called Top Gear had this song as their theme.
Yeahhhhh..... 😎
Can you imagine being in a band where you play like that and you're the second best guitar player in the band? Geez that original band was incredible. Chuck Leavell is the keyboard player you're enjoying so much
Does Chuck Leavell still tour with the Stones at the piano?
@@mailman1228Yes he’s their musical director too, meaning he comes up with the set lists. When he started working with them he said you guys are always playing the same stuff but you have such a deep catalogue of great songs you’re not playing. Keith said fine…you’re in charge of picking out the set list.
The old legend is Duane once said “I’m the famous one but Dickey is the good one.”
@@barrym2112of course, we know better. Dickey did a fantastic job stepping up when Duane passed but he was never as good as Duane. I will concede he was probably a better lyricist.
@@lesheath6216 No bout a doubt it ! Duane's talent was for the most part not realized by many. Well, it seems that way to me
In memory of Elizabeth Reed (live at the Fillmore) would be another Allman Brothers band tune to try. It's amazing
Best driving song of all time
A reviewer once wrote that if Dickey Betts hadn't written Jessica, and the Allman Brothers hadn't recorded it, convertible car manufacturers would have had to. It's the ultimate top down, wind in your hair song.
Two guitarists and two drummers and an organ. Very eclectic lineup that produced a very unique sound
...ans a bassist. Although, by this album, BROTHERS AND SISTERS, it was down to only Betts on guitar & Chuck Leavell was added on piano/keys.
Yes, I was highlighting the unique instrumentation. The entire band was unique
The transition from the piano solo to the guitar solo still gives me chills every time I hear it. One of my favorite pieces of any song EVER.
"If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough." Jeremy Clarkson, Top Gear...Thank you and RIP Dickie Betts.
pretty sure he stole that from Mario Andretti
Gregg Allman did an amazing sexy song called I'm no angel. I saw them live in concert on a showboat so early on in their careers.
This song is the absolute greatest masterpiece of double-lead guitar in musical history. There is not another recording that even comes close. It will remain the gold-standard forever.
Remember seeing them in the early 70's live at an indoor venue with probably 15,000 fans and when this played everybody just forgot all their cares and danced with complete abandon... tears of joy reliving the feeling of that ~✨️
RIP Dickie Betts . Virtually everything on Live at Fillmore East is magic ! I remember hearing that album for the first time and thinking it was so sophisticated. They really elevated rock & blues to another level. RIP !
I am shaken to hear that Dickey Betts passed away. We, 4 friends in very early 20ies, in an orange van, on our way to the mediterranean with the ABB on repeat. Ultimate road music, beauty and excitement of divine proportions. RIP, Dickey Betts.
What’s crazy is I bought 5 different Allman brothers vinyls online last week, and they came today
One of my favorite 'heading on down the road' songs. RIP Dickey...you will be missed
Love my Allman Brothers!! Dickey was one of my favorite guitarist! Please watch their live at the Fillmore east concert incredible! Duane, best slide guitarist ever, 24, Greg the voice, 20 years old! And the great guitarist Dickey Betts! RIP brother you had a great run!!RIP Duane, Greg, Butch!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great rock band from the 70's that mixed blues, jazz & country music in their sound. They had lots of great songs such as "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed", "Statesboro Blues", "Whipping Post", "Melissa", "Blue Sky", "Ramblin' Man" etc. "Jessica" is one of my favorites instrumental songs by them. It was written by guitarist Dickey Betts & named after his daughter.
He already covered Whipping Post and loved it!
You picked a perfect track to honor one of the greats in music.
One of the happiest songs ever written. Music that is thoroughly enjoying itself.
I named my daughter after this song, way back in 1977! My other girl is called Mellisa!
Dickie was married to a Canadian Indian.
Peace
You mean a Canadian Aboriginal.
Somewhat relevant I hope. There is a UA-cam series about a guy restoring a derelict chateau in northern France. At one point he talks about the history of the place and how a small group of Jewish kids escaped from Germany in the 1930s and stayed there pending a move to the USA. In the USA one of the kids got fed up being harassed because of his accent and his name. He wanted to be more American. He got a phone book and picked a new name: Bill Graham. Yeah, that Bill Graham. He of the Fillmore East.
Polo. The Brothers have a huge catalog. This really is a masterpiece. No lyrics. Try Blue Sky, Rambilin man or In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. His guitar is always present until the 90s. He left The. Brothers. Southern Rock Genre.😎🎸🥁🎤
A: This song is summer to me.
B: The GROOVE! Great piano solo, great guitar solo, but above all, great GROOVE!
My favorite instrumental of all times. When I'm in a funk, I listen to this!
One of Dickey’s masterpieces!R.I.P.😢🙏
Rip Greg allman as well. A beautiful voice in the right band at the right time. Filmore East!
Every morning in high school they played this song before school started on the school’s tv system before announcements. It is a great jam.
Excellent school!
WOW! Great way to start a day....esp a school day!
Cool school
One of the greatest American bands of all time.
I love Dicky. His playing is so melodic and clean. I saw the brothers in the 80s. Three hour show. Every song was a banger.
You need to check out Allman brothers so you can experience their blues and soul and Greg Allman's blue eyed soul singing. One way out, Statesboro Blues, Stormy Monday, Whipping post and more.
Allman Brothers my favorite band of all time. One of the rarest. Started their own music southern rock. Jam band, blues and rock & roll.
A lot of people don’t know how many of the most well known Allman Bro’s hits, especially the instrumentals, were written by Dickey Betts: Ramblin’ Man, Liz Reed, Blue Skies, Southbound, Revival…
Rest easy Ramblin’ Man.
RIP Dickey Betts - thanks for the all the music and making my memories
Lyrics? Who needs lyrics?
May I suggest One Way Out live at the Filmore East.
In a league all their own! They didn’t need lyrics! Great reaction ❤
This is one of those driving fast down a road in summer feeling songs. I was fortunate to have seen the ABB twice and they were incredible. Thanks for the music DB
Thanks for the reaction to this amazing song. "Jessica" is Dickey Betts daughter. I've been a fan of them since I heard the 1st notes of "One Way Out". Duane Allman and Dickey Betts were magic playing together. All of the original 6 band members except Jaimoe, have now passed. May they Rest in Peace.
Don’t forget about Duane Allman the fantastic guitarist he died years ago, but he was Lee guitarist on Clapton‘s Layla
Hard to believe Dickie Betts is gone. Allman and Betts were meant to go together. I got hooked with "Eat a Peach". I was submerged in blues of all origins ever since. I cried when Allman died but went on to discover more and more Blues artists that make my world.
The whole song is great, but Greg Allman on those Keyboard s are amazing. This Band was amazing. Greg and Dickie have now joined Duane in Heaven.
God Bless everyone
So times it's important not to talk but to listen
Love the Allman Bros. RIP Dickey Heaven's band just got a great musician added to its ranks.
Heaven is certainly what the churches have taught for hundreds of years. But that is not what the Bible teaches for the majority.
Jesus said the majority would be resurrected ACTS 24:15 JOHN 5:28, 29
Ecclesiastes tells us "The Dead know nothing at all."
That is because they are sleeping in the grave until that Resurrection in the near future.
Psalm 37:9~11,22,29,34🎉❤🎉
The truth of the Bible is a much better concept than the misconceptions of Christendom,.. ECT
And yes it will be great to see all of these musicians alive again on this Earth hopefully entertaining us some more in the future.🎉❤
@@tamitatangoto5134 yes, I know this. I was being poetic.
I named my oldest daughter after this song 🥰 Dickey is a true legend!! RIP to another one of the very best to ever do it 🎸🎤🎶 Would love for you to react to their song “Please Call Home” sometime 🥰
"tonight on Top Gear...."
Saw the Allmans in Santa Fe, I swear they played for hours, don't know how they did it. One of the greatest shows ever- outdoors even. Ran into all kinds of friends! Just awesome.
So glad to have seen them and RIP Dickey!! The road goes on forever 👍👊😎🇨🇦
Yes. Yes. Yes. I missed out on the full band, but I was lucky enough to see The Dickey Betts band play at our college's spring festival. Sitting on the grass listening to songs like Ramblin' Man go on for ever was sublime.
That's got to be Chuck Leavell on piano....a great player.
You have to hear Desdemona. Sheer genius. RIP Dickey Betts🖤
Their live album at fillmore east in 1971, brought the band fame. They had released 2 albums prior that had so so sales, but when people saw and heard how good this band was, their fame skyrocketed. They were a big part of the southern rock sound.
The original part.
This is such a talented band. I was sad to see this morning that Dickey had passed. There aren't many left from this band anymore. Ramblin' Man is a great song written by Dickey, I think you would enjoy it.
Thanks for this, I hadn't heard it in a long long time...
Blue Sky..you really should listen to that...
Yes! Truly a piece of musical art!
Pure Joy a song written for Bett's daughter
I'm pretty sure that's the great Chuck Leavall on piano but I could be wrong I loved this song first time I heard it on FM radio.R I P Dicky ...you were one of the great southern rock guitarist.
For me this song was growing up in the south, being young and having a great time in the summer. Just hanging out, doing things with your friends or just laying out by the lake. No TV, no internet, no social media. Just being young, free and warm enough to sweat. Alive.
Allman Bros knew how to use their instruments‼️ Love their piano riffs ❤
Dickey watched his happy toddler bouncing around the room and it inspired him to write this song.
Great song. Great Band. The greatest jam band ever!
One of the Greatest song ever!!!
👍...from Australia!...
the most amazing thing to me about the allman brothers is how tight all these musicians were...like an orchesta playing together each time out
Thank you Polo! RIP dear Dickey Betts, keep heaven rockin! Back in the day my ole' man popped this album on the record play every morning 1st thing! Hence our daughter is named Jessica total joy and love thru this terrific sound!
Song was inspired by his toddler daughter, Jessica, at play. Chuck Leavell on the piano solo. RIP Dickey!!!
Whipping Post is my favorite Allman Brothers Band jam. It has it all. So moving.
The band is back together! RIP guys!
One of the most joyful pieces of music ever made!
🙏❤🌹
Duane
Berry
Lamar
Butch
Gregg
Dickey
🌹❤🙏
The Allman Brothers were one of my favs in the 70s. I had an album "The Road Goes On Forever" and lost it! "Whipping Post" "Ramblin Man" "Midnight Rider" are just a few. I saw them in the early 90s. Amazing concert!
Great song, great band was lucky enough to see them a few times. Rip Dicky !!!!
Saw these guys every year at the Beacon theatre in NYC. They would play a week straight. By the way my wife picked this song as our entrance as a new married couple.
In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed is one of my FAVS!! Thanks, Polo, for listening to one of the BEST!! RIP, DICKEY BETTS!! 😢
The Allman Bros Decade of Hits never leaves my playlist. Rest in Peace, Brother Dickey.
Listening!... from Australia!...
Lamar Williams on bass...the 2nd bassist in The ABB that passed away too early. RIP, sir...
