I think Rift Apart is a testament to how well Insomniac have kept the core mechanics of the series intact whilst breathing new life in to the series. The rift sequences in Blizar Prime and Cordelion are some of the most interesting in the series (even if they get a bit stale on repeat playthroughs), and the different types of planets (linear-ish vs big open world with linear sections) were done so well. I just want more... and I think that's one of the best compliments a game can get. Also RaC2, RaC3 and ACiT at the highest tier for me as well, with RaC2 taking the top spot. So many great ideas from that game.
I absolutely loved the idea behind the armor system in Size Matters. It had some issues, particularly in balance at points, and some issues with the presentation due to hardware limitations brought down cutscenes, but that aside, really cool systems.
Great list; just gotta make a case for RaC1 being in S. There's something super magical about the vibes of that game, and it's never captured again for the rest of the series. Obviously the story/character development is great--everyone mentions it all the time, but the aesthetics (not graphics; even I can admit those are dated af) just hit different, too. It has a waaaaay stronger, more unique visual identity than even a game as great as Going Commando did. The PS2 sequels just look so flat and textureless in comparison; the duller/darker color palate of RaC1 did such a better job of hiding the graphical limitations/lack of real shadows. Plus I always felt the OT Star Wars recycled future aesthetic suited the game so much better than the crisper, cleaner look of everything that came after. Going Commando could get away with it cus it was a different galaxy, but it would've been awesome to see a rougher-around-the-edges style come back afterward. Does any of this matter from a gameplay/speedrunning perspective? No. Am I super biased because I have like 23 years'-worth of rose-tinted nostalgia for this game? Yeah. Do I give a fuck? Absolutely not; RaC1 rules. Clunky, unintuitive, aged gameplay and all.
Also! RAC1 has the most distinctive and fitting soundtrack besides Gladiator - that thing just slaps - but RAC1’s is bursting with so much personality, and as a result, RAC1 just sounds like no other game
Yes literally this!!! I recently replayed the trilogy and even tho the controls and weapon leveling is better in rac 2 & 3, rac 1 had a whole different charme about it that made the game so unique. I stand by it that it’s still number 1
It we are gonna be honest, my all-time favorite R&C will always be going commando, for Me that game was peak, the weapons, the planets, monsterpedia and music etc, loved it all...well except the boss on snivlack..so fun till you have to waste almost an hour on him
My top 2 favourite RaC games are RaC1 because the charm and feeling of the game is unmatched! Best levels, colours, music and even the gameplay has that old school feeling which brings me back to my childhood every single time. I wouldnt say its outdated or clunchy, its good, I like it! (I played it with my grandpa, who played it for more than a hundred hours. He grinded out RYNO for ME! ❤) RaC3 is my second favourite because the movement is the cleanest, smoothest and the most responsive that have ever been in any RaC. I also like the Quark minigames my favourite thing in it. 2 thing I hate the most is the orange-yellow-ish colour of the game and the RYNO3 max upgrade. Its the best at Lvl2 and it gets the worst ever on Lvl5.
The thing I love about the original R&C so much is I think it has the best planets and the best music in the entire series also it’s the best looking graphically of the ps2 era games. Also R&C is one of my favourite game franchises of all time so like half the games would be s tier for me lol
I remember getting Into the Nexus as a kid, going in blind and then being super disappointed when I finished it in 3-4 hours, basically in one sitting.
I played Before The Nexus and totally forgot about it until this video haha It's basically Subway Surfers but you play as Ratchet and you hold the phone in landscape rather than portrait mode Didn't realize it was hard to access now
Let me just say, I have played EVERY ratchet game, including before the nexus (It's not that bad but at the same time, very lacking in terms of a mobile game.) I REALLY agree with the 'Godlike' tier, Ratchet 2 and 3 are super super fun to play, I played it back when I was 4 years old? and that was over 15 years ago. Crack in Time I played when it came out sorta? It was AMAZING too Rift Apart, I got the console JUST for that game, and it was good, just too short. Overall though, Ratchet 2 on top.
This list is solid for ranking the series. I also agree heavily on disliking ratchet PS4. There was never a part of me that felt that the first game needed a remake, it always felt perfect the way it was to me. If anything 2 and 3 could've used updates given that they didn't port well due to how they were developed on the PS2 to utilize that console to its fullest (not that they're bad games, but if I wanted a remake, I'd like them updated to perform smooth on modern consoles)
I have still got my old iPhone 4 with before the nexus on it, and I can confirm that as long as it is saved in your Apple Store library, the game can be redownloaded on any device as long as it isn’t past iOS 9 (ish) I believe. Downloaded it to an old iPad that I picked up earlier this year. Not sure how useful this info is, but yeah, hopefully of some use to someone 😅 🤷♂️
i can understand rac1 and the movement. but thats really the only complaint i have for it. The OST for that game and the weapons more than make up for that imo.
Its like his argument on rac 2016 vs 2002 but the opposite. The movement did not feel so bad if you did not play the later games for a while but when you return from a later games, it is very disorienting. RaC 1 is very hard to rate.
Holy damn... After All 4 Ones failure, Insomniacs budget with RaC went to shit. They're just lucky that the "Remake and movie" sort of filled their pockets back up, to give us Rift Apart.
I've only played 8 games: Original>Rac3>Gladiator>Rac2>>>Rift Apart>Remake>>>>>>>>>>Size Matters>All 4 One the original tickles my nostalgia bone so badly that I'm biased and I prefer it over 3, 3 is godlike though and if I wasn't biased, I'd say is the best, Gladiator has the best weapons, which makes it more fun to me than Rac2, which is still an incredible game, but has very minor flaws when I compare it to my favorite trio. Rift Apart is a great game and even replayable, just nowhere near as legendary as the PS2 quadrilogy. The remake is NOT BAD, it's actually kinda fun, just don't expect it to be anywhere near as good as the first one. Size Matters is terrible, it controls badly, it has lame weapons and it becomes really boring by the end of it. All 4 One is just a chore, my cousin and I couldn't go past the 5th level out of sheer boredom.
Now don't get me wrong when I say this because I know its a good game and people really like it but, I do not like RaC 2 that much. The whole galaxy is extremely weird. I don't like a lot of the sounds in the game and of course the boss fights were not great. I've platinumed it twice and played it when I was younger but RaC 1 and 3 were just better games IMO. When I was younger I 100%ed both RaC 1 and 3 because I just loved the games but I couldn't do it for RaC 2. When I got older I platinumed RaC 2 out of principle.
i recently played rift apart for the first time and man was i disappointed. it had the chance to build off of so many great features the series has established, but it fell short on almost everything.
Well, considering that there are 8 ‘proper’ RAC games (that are all pretty great, barring one!) and that 8 are either too short, mobile games, PSP games or just straight up weird ideas - then I’d say in a series of 16 games that it’s doing pretty decently, tbh. Especially for a PlayStation mascot platformer where its siblings, Sly and Jak, got three great games each - Jak got a pretty sick racing game too. But then Sly got a pretty lame PS3 game, and Jak got a pretty good PSP Daxter game and a trash PSP Jak game…. RAC did pretty well to have 16 games! And across 4 console generations! Context matters, dude.
@ Yeah I agree 100%. Kinda realise now that those other 2 mascots were hard done in terms of total amount of games. Still not a fan of those spin off Rac games though.
Hey just wanted to say I think your tier list is shit
Mad respect for putting Size Matters in the 2nd tier. It really is better than they say.
@@marcoscabezolajr.8408 it sure is

Keep in mind this list was made in 2022 but i agree, rac1 is the best collectathon from all the rac games
Yes literally this!!! I recently replayed the trilogy and even tho the controls and weapon leveling is better in rac 2 & 3, rac 1 had a whole different charme about it that made the game so unique. I stand by it that it’s still number 1
Rac 1 is peak rac 1 on crt
Dad quick! Xem uploaded again
Great List
finally a good fucking tier list

That guy from Snivelak was the reason I looked at speedrun strats for the very first time, so, I kinda have a soft spot for it.
My top 2 favourite RaC games are RaC1 because the charm and feeling of the game is unmatched!

Something for me to watch in the background while I do other stuff. Nice!
Until I found out it was something I already watched 4 years ago.. You got me 😂
I remember getting Into the Nexus as a kid, going in blind and then being super disappointed when I finished it in 3-4 hours, basically in one sitting.

Rift Apart, I got the console JUST for that game, and it was good, just too short.
Overall though, Ratchet 2 on top.
Idk why pete davidson is making a ratchet tier list, but i liked it
Rami Malek's acting career has gone down the shitter if he's making videos like this
I'd explain Zipping as exploiting the games physics and anti-softlock tech to get pushed somewhere you're not supposed to be.
This list is solid for ranking the series. I also agree heavily on disliking ratchet PS4. Before the nexus can be placed in Leaving. its not bad but you can experience everything in like less than 2 hours
Putting Size Matters above Into the Nexus is insane
Because it's better 🎉
Nexus should also be above Tools
I have still got my old iPhone 4 with before the nexus on it, and I can confirm that as long as it is saved in your Apple Store library, the game can be redownloaded on any device as long as it isn’t past iOS 9 (ish) I believe. I'm revisiting R&C 2 actually, the OG PS2 version
i can understand rac1 and the movement. but thats really the only complaint i have for it. The OST for that game and the weapons more than make up for that imo.

I think you can argue tools, Rac 1, and Deadlocked in the Godlike tier
if it was a soundtrack ranking, definitely
Jasper here dunked again
Why would people hate ToD? It was my first ratchet and clank game and that’s how I got into the series
Its really short but i love into de Nexus.
all 4 one is top 3 for me solely because of the 4 player co op, the game itself isnt special but 4 player co op was something else.
Also it has skins
Holy damn... After All 4 Ones failure, Insomniacs budget with RaC went to shit. They're just lucky that the "Remake and movie" sort of filled their pockets back up, to give us Rift Apart.
Has your opinion changed on any of this games since you made this tier list?
Size matters and SAC should swap places
I’ve played before the nexus when I was like 10 years old the only gun I remember is the buzz blades it’s a shitty game
I've only played 8 games:
Original>Rac3>Gladiator>Rac2>>>Rift Apart>Remake>>>>>>>>>>Size Matters>All 4 One
the original tickles my nostalgia bone so badly that I'm biased and I prefer it over 3, 3 is godlike though and if I wasn't biased, I'd say is the best, Gladiator has the best weapons, which makes it more fun to me than Rac2, which is still an incredible game, but has very minor flaws when I compare it to my favorite trio.

All 4 One is just a chore, my cousin and I couldn't go past the 5th level out of sheer boredom.
Some people in the comments need to respect people opinions whether they agree or disagree lol
you can easily emulate before the nexus, all you need is an emulator and the apk
i think u can emulate before the nexus
Now don't get me wrong when I say this because I know its a good game and people really like it but, I do not like RaC 2 that much. The whole galaxy is extremely weird. Luigi
i'm not luigi mangione
So half the R&C serie is kinda trash or lacking
