For those wondering what the story means: It was written by Maurice Sendak for his first dog, a Sealyham terrier named Jennie. She appeared in nearly all of his books in some way from 1954 to 1967. The story was his whimsical approach to mortality and complex animal consciousness; he wrote it as a tribute to Jennie during her fatal sickness in 1967. 1967 was an awful year for Sendak. At the age of 39 he had his first heart attack while filming with the BBC in England, his mother was suffering from cancer and would die the following year, and when he returned home he discovered that Jennie also had cancer. In the book, Baby looks like him as a baby and when Mother Goose is shown she has his mothers face, and Castle Yonder is Heaven; the whole book was about his losses.
Thank you for that context. Something about this felt uncanny like a story about purgatory, but now I have a different level of appreciation for this film.
@@datgrrl_official The first part sure, it has to do with Jennie the dog who is dissatisfied with life and leaves to find whatever it is she's missing. But the second part, that has nothing to do with this! This is not a short about personal space in a workplace between two coworkers and if anyone thinks it is they're wrong. I think KIS KIS put the wrong description down. I got all the info about what this story is from actual articles on it and Sendak's life, so I'm not being disrespectful.
Jesus, you can't imagine what a man like him was going through - punch after punch after punch just shoving you down over and over.. I wonder what he went on to do afterwards?
Wow, like this was such a old school vibe with the puppets and costumes! It's like that borderline feel I had with the labyrinth movie. At times it had that uncanny uneasy creepiness to it but the overall production was still beautifully made, a magic about it, and I couldn't stop watching! Loved it! Hope this gets the love it deserves!
I feel like I just watched something from the 1980/90s puppetry era. So trippy but well done. Nvm, this came out at least a decade ago, lol. No wonder it was that feel.
Okay, who made these puppets. I would love to see them make full length movies in this style. The creativity in this piece is just astonishing yet it works with the story about a dog who tries to gain experience and learns that there is more to life and gets the experience of life in this short that feels like a stream of consciousness. It is absolutely amazing and I recommmend it for anyone.
"I can't tell you where castle yonder is, because I don't know where it is. But if you ever come this way, look for me" is SUCH a powerful line The way I see it is she can't tell his friend how to achieve greatness/personal fulfillment, because reaching such is a path reserved to each and every one of us. But if we try hard enough, we might just reach it.
Maurice Sendak's Higglety, Pigglety, Pop. 55 years old and this is still one of my favorite stories from childhood. Higglety, Pigglety, Pop, The dog has eaten the mop. The pig's in a hurry, The cat's in a flurry, Higglety, pigglety, pop.
Okay as an 80s kid watching this after a double shift and several adult beverages to the wind...I have never been hit by nostalgia this damned hard in my LIFE.
Everything just works so well, the camera angles, the scenes, the dialogue, the comedic relief of her eating a whole delivery... The whole movie just has that sentiment of being able to touch it, to feel the ridges and corners of the scenes.
This was fantastic! Just like some of the stuff we watched growing up. Truly wish more was done with as much creativity. The best part I think was the use of music to represent the tree as if Jennie was speaking with it. Eerie moment and great transition.
Overall, something very interesting, in a world of slop this is something terrific to witness. The voices were all well suited, the props and especially the cat costume were outstanding.
I was so shocked to see this title pop up in my youtube feed! This was amazing puppetry. I hope the crew who made this can get a feature length film someday.
Another comment, yet I don't know how to express myself about how I feel. The atmosphere, the camera angles, the movements, the voice acting and ofc, the beautiful puppets... this is gorgeous, amazing, perfect.
I have to say the puppetry is amazing! I can tell there was no computer stuff required I bet. It should earn an Oscar. They don't do things like this anymore.

this is so sweet and beautiful, i love the puppet works! the mix of creepy moments, sad and visually just pleasing to the eye is incredible! it reminds me of films i would randomly watch as a kid :)
I've seen 1000 animations, and somehow this is very high up on the "creepy scale"! (perhaps because at the edge of the photorealistic "uncanny valley")
I've got no idea how... Direction, not over done, just rite. Sets, puppets & costumes, striking and mesmerizing. Execution, like a dream I just woke up from. Send James Cameron back to the Mariana Trench.
I had no clue what I was going to see when I watched this. That being said I thought it was really good. No - excellent would be a better description. I want more of this please.
This is amazing I love the puppetry, I'm assuming that's real puppets and not just AI graphics, I love the dog I actually have my own self handmade puppet that looks just like yours!
Hey, Kis kis Studio, what do you think about making a short film about a comic called korgi? It's a fun silent comic and its atmosphere is similar to the atmosphere of a Disney movie.
Jenny looks like the dog who performed on AMERICA HAS TALENT!!

So sad, and lonely but nice story, too weired with the old lady baby though kind of creepy and not nice to look at, over all the animation with everthing else was great

No, the video description sets out exactly what this tale is about, from the film makers. Don't be disrespectful.

My exact toughts! This matches the vibe just right
Either this or something like The Aristocats.

Never heard of this before.

That shift in feeling, what an interesting piece, oh my gosh.
"There must be more to life then having everything."
That's poetry.
Everything just works so well, the camera angles, the scenes, the dialogue, the comedic relief of her eating a whole delivery... The whole movie just has that sentiment of being able to touch it, to feel the ridges and corners of the scenes.

Yippee, cool I found it.
I've got no idea how... Direction, not over done, just rite. Sets, puppets & costumes, striking and mesmerizing. Execution, like a dream I just woke up from. Send James Cameron back to the Mariana Trench.
The forest scene reminds me a lot of over the garden wall
For some reason this gives off Guillermo Del Toro vibes
I had no clue what I was going to see when I watched this. That being said I thought it was really good. No - excellent would be a better description. I want more of this please.
I loved this! MORE PLEASE!!
This is amazing I love the puppetry, I'm assuming that's real puppets and not just AI graphics, I love the dog I actually have my own self handmade puppet that looks just like yours!

This is awesome
Yep now that definitely hurts
Exceptional!
This looks like something made by Jim Hension in the 1980's
More like a supporting role.
How was this done? It was AMAZING.
❤loved this production❤
This is really cool
So good ❤
Jennie looks so much like my little dog only difference is Coco is brown
What is the name of the tunes in the video?
feels very 2000s hot topic, mcr kinda of stuff
...am i on mushrooms?
... GOOD SHOW OLD BEAN 🏴
Wonderful😘
this reminds me of Meet The Feebles
Is there a behind-the-scenes?

Are we meant to like the dog? At the begining she eats her friend the plant and abandons the person that loves her because she doesn't care.
That cat deliveryman is kinda hot ngl 🤣
Lol you’re so real for that
this is a freak-out
👏👏👏👌❤
