    The fact that he actually clearly speaks English and is trying hard to sound like he doesn't makes this hilarious on a whole new level.
    Edit: So 7 months later and after reading the replies to my way overrated comment (I don't get it either), it occurred to me that some people may not understand what my point was. My point was that Sora clearly knows how to pronounce English properly, and is very deliberately exaggerating his accent for fun. I simply meant that normally when people are paying close attention to their pronunciation, they are trying to speak correctly. Here, I can imagine him trying really hard not to slip up and accidentally pronounce something _correctly._ Like how if you are reasonably fluent in a foreign language and you want to sound as incorrect as possible, it actually takes effort to suppress your correctly learned language skills. And the thought of someone sweating bullets to be as incorrect as possible improves the comedy of the skit.

    No joke. I took a Japanese class in HS. don't remember why we had this exercise but we were told to say English phrases but with a Japanese accent. most were fine but when we got to "below me" everything fell apart. sounded like the whole class was telling our teacher to blow us. afterwards we started coming up with more profanity but masked it with Japanese pronunciation

      @@roachybill To be fair, "Schmetterling" is a good choice to drive home the "rough language" stereotype, as it literally translates into something like "clashling" or "batterling". Which is hilariously violent to describe that kind of insect.

    • @grmpf
      @grmpf 2 роки тому +109

      @@roachybill LinkEX made it seem a bit too simple. In German, "schmettern" can also mean "to sing with strength/fervour", used sort of in the way you'd use "to belt" in English.
      None of that matters though because that's not the origin of the word. "Schmetten" was a word for cream (the dairy product) in Middle High German. Schmetterling and butterfly have the same origin: Some species are attracted to dairy products; they would often appear when people were making butter from cream.
      And "ling" is just a generic suffix that means "individual who is in some way identified by the previous part of the word". For example "Liebling" = "darling": "lieben" = "to love" plus the "ling" makes a person who is loved. In fact, as you can see from "darling", you've got the same thing in English: The "dar" part in "darling" corresponds to "dear" in modern English.
      So, overall, "Schmetterling" means "cream-related creature", not "creature that crashes things" or "creature that sings very loudly".

    • @LinkEX
      @LinkEX 2 роки тому +7

      @@grmpf Good point, etymologically it actually does follow the same principle. It's just merely obfuscated because it happens to use the energetic act of making butter, using a verb that has largely went out of use.
      In that vein, it does work to describe the insect universally regarded as a symbol of tranquility and tenderness.
      Still, it's kind of hilarious that it ended up with such a misleading root word.
      Even the alternate meaning that describes this very energetic and assertive way of making music like a drum major is just as hilarious.

      Its just that not everyone is bound to like the same stuff as we do. Anyways, its just that they're probably not a man of culture

    For some reason I expected Earth to be arusu, but yeah, Ass Braster works much better.

      "Earth" actually would be "assu"-certain words don't commonly get the "ru" for the "r" when spoken in Japanese phonetics
      For example, I'd say "kaapetto" for "carpet", and "Assu Burasutaa" is in line with that

    I like how this one, is explaining the concept of how a manager is talking down to the employee or the actor, where the actor is using formal Japanese and correctly entering the room. This video is educational as much as it is funny.

    It's being overlooked but the way Sora vocalizes a very ordinary line "chottomatte kudasai" as only a seiyuu can... *chef's kiss*

      its not being overlooked by people who use actual words instead of meme phrases for hand gestures.
