This is the most comprehensive video on Gomphrena I’ve ever seen! Thank you for going way above the call of duty to make an exceptional learning resource fun and entertaining ❤
Never thought I will see gardening enthusiast channel with cool Lo-Fi music!(and soothing voiceover) I can see a lot of time spent making this great video. I'm a beginner at at gardening, and, after postpone it for quite a while, your videos finally encourage me to just do it! 😁
Wonderful video!!!! I grew Gomphrena from seed for the first time this year. I am mad I didn't mass plant them! Your display was UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL!!! I grew a mix of purple, pink and white. The all pink is stunning! Thanks for the relaxing video, I learned a ton and enjoyed the music/videography a lot! Your voice is very calming. :)
Your videos are oddly poetic and calming lol I grow veggies mostly (cus I like eat) lol but you’ve definitely motivated me to put more effort into flowers or showing love to the pollinators. Thanks for sharing
You are making the world a better place one plant at a time. Am envious of your neighbours. Wish we all had green-thumbed neighbours like you around us. ❤❤❤
Gomphrena brought me to your channel. Very informative and enjoyable, especially seeing the process from seed to bloom to a beautiful floral arrangement!
I love that vase that you made! I’m always looking for unique things to display my flowers in. I couldnt agree more about the enjoyment of growing flowers. It’s amazingly rewarding. This year I purchased some gomphrena seeds so it will be my first time trying them and I’m happy to see they seem to be a no fuss flower. To address your weed question, my mom who has been gardening for many years, she has 6 aches with acres of it as garden, and of course many weeds that want to be there, she is anti weed pulling for a few reasons- which I think is a commonly shared opinion in the garden world- she now smothers her weeds with wood chips that she gets for free from tree cutting companies, the wood chips overtime will break down and they are good for the soil. You may need to adjust (add) to bal Ph later. She also smothers with mushroom compost which where she lives is easy to find, not sure that it would be where you are but any soil works of course... and lastly she uses a flame throwing weed burner which I thought was silly at first but it really works! I do not have the land that she does but I do use the smothering method as much as I can. Hope that helps and thanks for the video, really enjoyed it! Lauren ☺️🌸🐱
You are a man of many talents. A potter and a gardener? How satisfying to use a handmade vase for the cut flowers that you have lovingly grown from seed. Well done.
Dang James, the footage in this video is so well done. The various camera angles, closeups, focus effects and pacing made it a joy to watch. And you seem to find the right background music. My gomphrena did so well this summer. Wish I planted more. Appreciate your encouragement with these beautiful flowers.
Anytime! I was thrilled to learn you were growing them. I love to hear how they do in different environments unlike my own, since most of these flowers are so dependent on region. Glad to hear they did well for you.
I just love this video! The editing is fantastic and the quality is great. Really good to see the whole process and your arrangement at the end is beautiful!
I just found your channel and have just bought a pack of the same seeds! Your flowers were beautiful and I can’t wait to sow my seeds! Thank you for the calmness of your video also!❤️
Loved this video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion! I have to say I loved the bucket of Gomphrena before you even made a beautiful bouquet. Loved the arching shapes. I hope you are still enjoying your gardens!
What a wonderful video- expertly produced, beautifully paced, informative and totally engaging! Just what I needed as I sow my first gomphrena here on the south coast of the UK - let's hope they can survive the rigours of an English summer!
Great video! I'm so bummed, we had a late May snowfall so my gomphrena plants look terrible. I'm going to try direct seeding to see if I can get some flowers this year.
You inspired me. I ordered seeds today. Live in Fl zone 9, always looking for cottage garden type plants that can take the heat. So glad to find a new one! Thanks
Thanks for sharing, they are so beautiful, imagine when people enjoy your garden, they may not know how hard you put work behind the beauty. I also enjoy your voice on explaining how you glow them, so relaxing. I wish you can have the time line would be helpful for me, like when you start seeding them, how long take them to sprouts and how long to begin flower, how often you water them, etc,. Thanks a lot.
I bought a plant this year at the garden center because I couldn't resist how pretty and cheerful they are. I am going to harvest the seeds from my existing flowers, do some direct planting and some in trays like you suggested.
I’m looking at starting seeds a bit earlier this year and this will definitely be on the list. My gardening style is crazy but the butterflies and bees love it 😁😁
Thanks for the video, you've convinced me to try growing gomphrena! To remove weeds, have you tried straw mulch? Here in Australia, we use sugar cane straw mulch around plants because it retains moisture longer and prevents immediate evaporation in the hot summer months and the weeds don't receive the sunlight they need to grow. I mulch around 5 - 10 cm thick and that seems to be a really effective weed control. Also straw mulch is organic matter that is very good for clay soils as it breaks down much quicker than bark or wood chips - making your soil more healthy for the next growing season.
@@Baetanical I have used shredded straws in my gardens for many years. It works great but it does contain a lot of seed from the field the straw is harvested from - so you end up with lots of grass (oats, wheat, or barley) sprouts. I am lucky that the quail and finches will eat a lot of the seed from the straw in my gardesn but I do end up having to pull sprouts on a regular basis. When I run out of the bales I have I am going to switch to alfalfa bales and shred them for mulch. No seeds, no worry about herbicides and additional nutritional benefits for the soil. I wish I could get sugarcane mulch in Nevada!!
@@Baetanical Nutsedge...ugh. I've found that if you catch them early- at about the stage they are in your video- they're easy to control by shoving a trowel deep into the soil next to the plant and lifting the plant and the roots out on the ground. If you let the plants get large enough to have extensive root systems with several tubers attached to them, they're much, much harder to control.
This channel is me but older, I love flowers, they are so pretty and I plant them for the bees( I’m not calling u old I’m just child) I love this channel
I just bought a gomphrena 2 days back from the nursery.. it is the purple variety.. and was looking for content on it n stumbled upon your video.. very informative.. thank you. Im in India and in our city we are in dry autumn, almost like summer weather. I hope my gomphrena sapling will survive. Im growing it in a pot and am a new gardener!!
@@inaayatsingh8794 um hey:) so they usually take 10 -12 days for germinating but u can speed up the process by soaking them up for a day or two. And it dosen't take much of a time to bloom either......and are pretty easy to handle as well.
I really love your videos! They're very educational and very beautiful. You inspired me to make my own small flower garden for pollinators with my dad :). We finally got our first blooms today!
Hi I planted Gomphrena for the first time, I just threw the seeds in the bed about a thousand! I got them from (outside pride) wonderful beautiful I love that company seeds they all came up so beautiful pinky. White. Red. Zone 7 a October now still blooming.
Thanks for such a comprehensive tutorial on one of my favourite flowers.. I have red one,so amazing and even more so when it catches the sun.. Keep inspiring, from Australia
Your seedlings quickly got much taller and generally bigger than mine, which have more of a rosette appearance at the moment. They are a "Fireworks" mix, but the white ones resemble yours a bit more. Although not as large. They've had a good start on the propagating bench and under some supplementary lighting. We'll see how they go once they go outside. Hopefully they'll do as well as yours. Thanks for the video.
I plant these flowers too every year . I just use the dried flowers to reseed. We Nepalese use these for Hindu ritual in late summer/fall. Your video is very inspiring
ive seen this seed being sold but never tried to plant them because my country is too hot and i didnt think they would survive but after watching this, i will try growing them :) thank you for sharing. this was so beautiful
Great video!!! The neurotic Virgo made me bust out a good laugh…… because it makes me a neurotic Leo and I plant everything indoor to avoid the guessing part. Thank you for sharing your beautiful flowers 🌷
Lovely, I’ll definitely give the a go! Another heat and drought resistant plant is oleander, you often see it growing on the side of the motorway in Spain, giving a wonderful display of colour 😊
I love gg's. This year I grew Atomic Purple and they were so beautiful, vibrant, and prolific! And they make pretty pink tea, too. Can't wait to add more colors next year!
Something you could try with that clay soil is watering in with liquid hummates every month. It slowly seeps into the clay and helps amend it over time! I've seen some pretty good results in my own soil here in Houston.
I love this! Just ordered my pink, white, and purple gomphrena seeds. That red gomphrena looks beautiful too! Sadly, red gomphrena seeds are rare in my area. I love your flower bed! 🌸🌸🌸
Great video. Coincidentally I am planning to grow these next summer. For the weed, try smothering first with layers of cardboard, contractor's paper or something synthetic and put compost and mulch on top. Weed suppressing plastic has always worked for me on my tough weeds. Good luck
I work at a nursery and do mostly organic gardening. I would try using 20% vinegar on the foliage and digging the plants roots up after that. it works even better on a hot day but be careful it will kill any plants it gets on. hope that helps!!
Lovely video. What a joy to watch and learn. I just purchased some full-grown plants in purple for pollinators. We will seed them when they dry out and grow them for next year. Cheers!
Oh my.... you are simply excellent! Inspired me? Heck yeah I’m going to look for my nearest supplier of these divine plants! You’ve reminded me why I love gardening to begin with. As a matter of fact I sown some pink poppy seeds which I collected earlier from this year and will grow them indoor hopefully they will be ready to transplant in the spring?
I don't know if you've tried it, but white household vinegar is a non-toxic method for dealing with weeds. A bit of dish soap, salt and vinegar mixed together and sprayed directly on the weeds usually works.

Your gomphrena were simply gorgeous! I love the arrangement. I'm planting it for the first time this spring.
Hi did they bloom beautiful flowers
I am obsessed!!! I love your trick of watering the flowerbed before you put the seeds on it! Yayyy

This video was so adorably satisfying from start to finish!
Love your videos ❤️
I love the shots from up above that show your whole garden!!
Thank you for the video. This will be my first time direct sewing Gomphrena, so I am excited. 😊
BEAUTIFUL GOMPHRENAS AND ARRANGEMENT THAT U DID WITH THEM. THE FLOWER BED DIRT LOOKS MUCH BETTER.😍
Lol I literally ordered the same packet of seeds. It’s good to know the direct sown ones didn’t sprout. . Thank you 🌺
