We love gomphrena! It is such a unique and beautiful flower. Gomphrena is one of my favorite flowers to grow because of its versatility as a fresh cut and dried flower. What varieties are you planning to grow?
I discovered you today from your how to harvest zinnias video. Your harvesting and preparing videos are so great. I love that you prepared examples of what not to cut and what to cut and the reasons why and also demonstrate it on the actual plant. I love how everything is so organized, especially your beautiful flower farm
I feel like seeing both the good and bad stems really teach you what to do in the garden. We just published a video on how we make our mixed dried bouquets. Hope you enjoy it as well. Thank you for watching.
I love this kind of flowers, the petals are paper like. I love how they come in different colors, they are so beautiful.🌻✌️❤️ Thanks for the tips. Have a blessed day.
Great video. I have a whole aisle of it as well and its going CRAZY right now. But not to the stiff stage yet. Have a pink purple red white mix. Zone 7b here in NC
Im having trouble getting them to sprout... so im putting the seeds in damp paper towel but even when they sprout then, they dont survive easily once put in a pot and the ones that do are growing incredibly slowly. I put them in full sun which helped a bit, but is it possible the weather is too cold? We've had a bit of a cooler spring and tonnes of rain bere in australia so im wondering if that's why?
How deep are you planting the seeds? We just barely cover ours. They like heat. We put ours in trays and left them outside in mid May. Planted on a Friday and had sprouts by Monday and Tuesday.
Some varieties are more branching than others. The first cut of the season we remove the center stem of the branching varieties. These stems are shorter, but useable. You want to get those cut before they goto seed. A lot of our sides are mature at cutting. We do have some heads that aren’t fully developed. Those are snipped off and placed into a dehydrator. What is your zone? I think our success with this flower comes from our hot climate as well.
That's a beautiful garden, thank you for sharing with us. Do you know if it's edible? I've seen some people and heard it's been used for teas but don't know much.
@@1818Farms Hello! Thank you for your answer, I've found out it is edible. It grows a lot in my country Panama and people use it a lot in cakes, I found out some tea recipes in youtube as well under globe amaranth :)
This is my first time growing gomphrena. Do the steams gets firmer as the season progress? My flowers don’t have firm stems like the ones you’re showing
We plant in the field. We amend our soil with compost collected over the season each Spring. We spray seaweed and fish emulsion on the plants throughout the growing season.

Love your Gromphrena video. Can you tell me the variety for the purple gromphrena? Thx
Your Gomphrena is beautiful! Do you use netting?
Can I collect seeds from my cut flower bouquet I received from a friend?
I love your beautiful flowers. What kind of snips do you use in this video?
Thank you! These snips are ARS. They are great.
@@1818Farms Thank you for your redponse...
Can you take them out of a bouquet? And will they still dry out for seeds?
I have found they need to mature on the vine for seed.
do they keep maturing once they've been cut/used in a live arrangement?
thank you for the info..i grow them..the Qis, bicolor & the fire work..i heard about the zizzle gomphrena..are they real?
Happy that you enjoyed it! I am not familiar with the zizzle variety.

@@1818Farms ah that might be it. I think I planted them maybe 1cm?
What type scissors are you using to cut the flowers?
I use a pair of ARS Clippers/snips.
Natasha I love watching your channel! When do you plant the seeds?
Sharon, We direct seed in mid April. This is after our last frost date.
1818 Farms thanks so much!! I really need to come visit when the crazy pandemic is over 😉
Do you trim off the droopy baby gomphrenas? What about blooms on the same stem that are different in height?
We usually remove and dry those. They are wonderful for crafting.
@@1818Farms would you generally go by one bloom per stem then, for drying?
Some varieties are more branching than others. The first cut of the season we remove the center stem of the branching varieties. These stems are shorter, but useable. @@1818Farms I live in Southeast Asia, so I'm not sure if this region is zoned
It's so beautiful ma'am. Do u sell seeds?
Thank you Elizabeth! We do not sell gomphrena seed. We do sell a few other varieties on our website.
I love gompherena can u please sell some seeds ?
That's a beautiful garden, thank you for sharing with us. Do you know if it's edible? I've seen some people and heard it's been used for teas but don't know much.
Thank you. I have never used it as an edible. I would need to research!

Do you have a video on starting from seed. I failed miserably with Gomphrena trying to start from seed,
I am so sorry to hear that. We direct seed several of our varieties. They love the heat. I haven’t done a video on that but hope to do one.
@@1818Farms OH okay. I live in zone 7 in the Piedmont of North Carolina. if they love the heat I tried to do these too soon. When do you direct sow?
This is my first time growing gomphrena. Do the steams gets firmer as the season progress? My flowers don’t have firm stems like the ones you’re showing
Yes, they will get stiffer as they mature. For me it seems the warmer the weather the quicker they mature.
Will these live year after year?
They are tender annuals and do not survive a frost. We replant every year.
Are they true to seed if planting seeds from dry flowers?
It depends if they have been cross pollinated. We alway purchase fresh seed every season.
How do you keep them standing up tall? Do you stake them? Mine (tall varieties) always drop down to the ground and grow short.
We use a 4 foot wide netting - Hortanova. It is secured with fiberglass poles. We have very hot summers here. I think they love the heat.
@@1818Farms Thank you for such fast reply. My summer is super hot, too. Above 100F everyday.
As long as they are irrigated well they should thrive....Super hot and humid here. Hope you enjoyed the video.
I tried to find but couldn't find a seller with international shipping. Can you help?
Where did u order mixed color seeds
These were actually purchased as plugs. Otherwise you have to buy individual seed colors.
what kind of soil do you use? fertilizer? Thanks
We plant in the field. We amend our soil with compost collected over the season each Spring. We spray seaweed and fish emulsion on the plants throughout the growing season.
Do you grow Straw Flowers?
We do! They prefer much cooler temperatures.
Hi mam super Ian trying to have this plant seeds can I get it
Hello friend, I'am from Srilanka. Please tell me where to buy these seeds.
I purchase from Johnny’s seeds or Geo. I am unsure if they ship international.
I’ve heard when grown in mass it has a not so pleasant smell
It doesn’t have a smell at all. I bet you are thinking of eryngium.
Can you give me some seeds please?
Gomphrenà is a stinky flower, right?
It has zero smell. You are probably thinking of Eryngium.
