      Speaking of "drop the weight" I was a bit disappointed that the one-handed pushup didn't make it in the list.

    • @rlburton
      @rlburton 7 років тому

      True; not a fan of isolation exercises myself. But, if you really want isolation then he shouldn't have been doing dumbbell presses either.

    • @rlburton
      @rlburton 7 років тому +3

      But you're also pressing the equivalent of about 1.5 times your bodyweight. Engaging lots of other muscles too doesn't mean you're working the chest less.

    • @rlburton
      @rlburton 7 років тому +1

      ~2/3 of your bodyweight, yes you're right, but with only one hand. If a 180lb guy is pressing 120lb dumbbells (2/3 bodyweight each), he's pressing 240 lbs, and he's shredded.

      True though. A lot of people think blasting through the weights is a good idea. I have a lot of friends who were like that, and after 3 months they stop because its "too hard" to continue and they get lazy. Better to keep doing the same reps on a light weight and add only a little bit after a few weeks or a few months and keep on grinding rather than get burnt out the first few months. Working out is all about continuity rather than who can lift the heaviest first.

    Hey Mike you're my favorite fitness youtuber, and I'd like some advice from you or someone else in the comment section. I have extremely big arms and right now I just hit arms like once a week to maintain muscle mass. But my chest is a whole different story, it's really lacking size and I hit it twice a week but it's really hard to put some mass on my chest. Heres my chest rutine:
    2 warm up sets on chest press machine
    3-4 sets of 10 reps on chest press machine
    3-4 sets of 10 reps on decline benchpress
    4 sets of 10 reps on cable machine (hitting the upper chest)
    3 sets of 10 reps on cable machine (hitting the middle chest)
    3 sets of 10 reps on cable machine (hitting the lower chest)
    3 sets of 10 reps of cable press (overhand) (hitting the middle chest)
    Sometimes I add some other exercises in at the end or before I go to the cable machine but that's mostly what I do to hit chest and I do this rutine twice a week.
    I'm filling 16 next month, I dont know if my age has anything to do with my chest lacking size but what am I doing wrong?

    I listened closely to what Mike said here and watched his demonstrations several times - then I performed this chest workout twice, with a 4-day break between. I gotta tell you Mike - I have NEVER had my chest respond like this, and I've been lifting and doing various programs for the last 12 years consistently (I KNOW when something makes sense and works for me...). Thank you, Mike - I have downloaded your AFLETE app, and plan to become a client after I study and apply your YT videos a bit more. You make the most sense, and remove more of the mystery of all this, than any other online trainer I have found. There are lots of "mass monsters" online who offer courses that do not work (those guys look so strangely huge, that I feel sure they use steroids - and their programs are WAY too hard to recover from if you don't take steroids) - but -- if you want to enter into a lifestyle of healthy, strong fitness, Mike Thurston is the trainer you want to follow. I would do a free "ad" like this for you ANY time, man -

    Mate I've been training since the end of January. I was training 6-7 days a week. Obviously over doing it. About 4 weeks ago I fell off it completely for 3 weeks. I got back in to it last Friday and I'm loving it again. Im doing 5 days now but only training chest,back,shoulders and arms. I have muscular legs through football and I don't want abs because if I'm honest I'm not strict enough with my diet. Im finding I'm doing 8-12 reps 3 sets on each targeted area and I'm getting my session done in about 30 - 45 mins with minimal rest between sets. Does this sound ok? Any pointers?. Please reply if you can. Thanks👍

    • @ShyBoy6ty9
      @ShyBoy6ty9 7 років тому +2

      From WebMD "Oral anti-inflammatory medications -- such as aspirin, naproxen, or ibuprofen, remain the most common treatment for impingement syndrome."
      "In addition to taking medications, daily stretching in a warm shower will help. You should work to reach your thumb up and behind your back. Avoid repetitive activities with your injured arm, particularly activities where the elbow would move above shoulder level."
      Of course "talk to your doctor" remains the best advice that someone with no medical training can give you, but if you're stubborn like me and refuse to see a doctor unless you think you're dying, I'd say this is your best bet.

      Mike....do you take as directed? or how do you take it?

    • @MikeThurston
      @MikeThurston  8 років тому +1

      It really depends on the nature of the workout and when I consumed my previous meal. It would usually be during a workout in powder form.
