No experience with Priestman, but with any stuck cylinder, I’d always push them out a little and clean the ram where it’s been stuck in the seal, before trying to push it back in. That goes for anything from a brake cylinder, to a hydraulic puller, to a dipper ram, or a grease tensioner.
As someone who can't reliably hit what he wants with a club hammer I am always impressed with someone who can hit what he's aiming at with a sledgehammer! Perfect Saturday morning, Mr Hewes video, thanks Guys!!
Priestmans manufactured in Hull .........not three miles away from where I live ! Lol ................very entertaining video lads ! Just what I needed on a Saturday afternoon ! Better than listening too our lass !
I used to drive a priestman dragline...That too was totally different controls to any other ... used to cross my arms just to make it more comfortable 😂
Mate, I'm sure it was like March there was a conversation about subscribers, you were on about 67k at the time and I said you would be on 100k by the end of the year! it's only the start of October and you have hit 120k that's 10k subscribers a month for the last 6 months. Well done lads keep up the good work.
Jeez, that brings back a 40yr old nightmare job, my Boss bought a scrapped Priestman Mustang that had got drowned on a sea defence job. Every nut, bolt and pin was seized solid with rust or sand, he obviously decided it just needed a loving touch from our workshop to turn it into a brand new machine. Sadly he was wrong…..
Hello Jack, it's good to see you again, you haven't forgotten how to swing Percy Sledge, the hammer. 🦾 Happy days, a place I worked had Mustangs, a 'later' model! 🫨 If it's a good machine, you can't operate it with the cab door closed, as the left control lever hits the door, and doesn't operate the bucket! What a machine, it looks like the engine's off a New Holland combine! 😃
Ran priestmans doing ditching and drainage in the early 80s.. Constantly had to adjust the track motor valve pressures and or the valve chest.. They were quite clever on the peat as ground pressure was pretty low.. Then there was the JCB 805b on an 806 undercarriage and 32 bog pads
This is very apt timming. I am in the middle of fighting with a newer (mid '90's vintage I think), much smaller (1.6t) but way more abused excavator. The dog bone (or whatever you call the short link on the bucket) has been welded on one side 4 times and has snapped again in a new place. None of the pins are the right length or have pins and the dog bones are held together with a bungie cord. A good manyof the grease nipples have sheared off. Its so wallered out there is 45 - 90 degrees of slop in the bucket. The engine only revs to 50% on a good day. The drive motos are so shot they have been rigged to only work in tandem, so turning in a lift n throw affair,
Nearly as crap as a hymac 😅😅😅 just love the 101 uses for a nut fucker (adjustable) or crescent as they call um down here in NZ. Keep on cranking out the vids and the only thing in life you can trust is the grease gun being empty or running out b4 you finish using it 🤔😂😂😂
Just tumbled across this video, takes me back nearly 50 years to working one of these in Kishorn in north west highlands, very light machine to operate in its day
1:51 that looks more like self amalgamating tape. Brilliant stuff, highly recommend you have some roles on hand as itll seal things like that to just bodge it back temporally
As always you guys are doing a hell of job 👍👍! The only thing I was a bit surprised that you didn't use diesel oil, not much mind you, when you pressed in the tensioner. It might have been easier to work on it but it is just my opinion...
If you had have taken the FODEN, the track would simply have lept back on once the parking brake was engaged when you pulled up. Two ways of doing things, the hard way, or the FODEN way. Cheers.
You guys obviously have a cracking working relationship and have far too much enjoyment whilst you beaver away - and that's obviously why you can afford to share that enjoyment and entertainment with us poor plebs that couldn’t even begin to emulate your achievements. Bl..dy brilliant - just keep the videos coming!😂
Used to have a boat with in board petrol engine. Push button start but had a black spot on the starting motor, most the time had too give the motor a tap with the magic hammer. Had some funny moments with that old boat.
Nothing sketchier than field repairs with the wrong tools. But if it works, who cares. This job looks a lot like prime farm repair make do and get it working. 😅
that travel lever would be funny as all hell if it would have had a single pedal on it instead, imagine trying to get out while its running and just snapping to the side
As someone that sits at a desk pushing buttons for a living, I watch this channel to get a feel of what real work is like.
Bluetooth work effort? 😉
think of it as studying up for when the next great depression hits and you end up in a mine somewhere
I would pay to vacation there. Fun to work on big things. Engine rooms of old American carriers was my place in the 90s.
That crescent wrench is now the sort of thing someone finds 25 years from now and is like "how the fuck did they manage to bend this?"
Usually what happens when people use them to hold dies in lathes.... 😂😂😂
You’re better than top gear for entertainment value!
Agreed. I really appreciate how matter of fact and chill these dudes are.
Just need Chris harris powersliding that digger and it would be perfect 😂
Actual driving control via a large joystick looks like its ahead of its time.

Rule nr 46 "The grease gun always run out before the job is done"
Rule nr 47 "Always return the grease gun empty"
“Slack as Alice!” Why jiggery pokery....introduce me to Alice please!!!!! 😃👍🏻👍🏻

The best thing about that cherished classic is the self-contained window box, happily growing away in a pool of blackjack and diesel. Truly beautiful.
As a Scotsman would say “ I’m na crawling under that foookin thing”.
AS we say here in Oregon USA, fix, sure , drive it under a gallon of gas and throw a match on it. Fixed. You guys make me laugh great video
Wow that one put up a fight. Like the big old press. Top job all round.
Nice bit of team work their chaps. The problem was no TED to supervise thats why that grease nipple broke. Tea and Biccies all round!
I used to drive a priestman dragline...That too was totally different controls to any other ... used to cross my arms just to make it more comfortable 😂

Wow, what a POS. Always fun watching you two work. Have a great weekend
Come on Joe this would be perfect for your growing plant collection .
You say it belongs in the weeds, but being the clapped out thing it is, it will become one of your most used diggers.

That was perseverance over rust!
can't beat about 2M of the heaviest steel pipe for helping to slip tracks on like this, that and a couple of come-alongs
Parked in the nettles 😂😂top job lads
Brings back memories! I hated dealing with tracks! Well done,
Love that big press. I can see it’s only been used for proper specific jobs and fun things in it’s lifetime.
Think the Foden would have been the suitable tool to pull her out the way😆🤦♂👍👌
Joe and Jack are like a comedy double act! Excellent banter between them.

Tusen takk for god underholdning. 👍🤗👍🇸🇯
Thats some tired iron, operated on of them for a while for Ovendens 81'

its a good old tool 1st 360 that hi run 60 years ago nice to see again thank you
Bril!. 'Bodgey bros' strike again!. Great entertainment!. Nuff said!. 🤣

Always amazed how you get the old vehicles going awesome

You must be an aircraft tech? I love a bit of self amalgamating tape it's magic...if you want something that doesn't stick to anything
spot on guys a little light relief to start the weekend, that adjustable is made of playdoh !! 🤣😂🤣😂🤪
Thanks for the video, I usually learn something and always enjoy watching!
Loved this video

agree .. that digger is a sweet unit .. lol
Burn it out? ahh you don't really mean that Mr Hewes, you got to have some love for that old beast.
Ramming speed - awesome.
Went to the Hull factory as a school kid. They were cutting edge tech back then. Shame to see them and others like Coles go out of business.
You fellows sure enjoy a bit a challenge. Good job.
If you had have taken the FODEN, the track would simply have lept back on once the parking brake was engaged when you pulled up.
Two ways of doing things, the hard way, or the FODEN way. Cheers.
Always a good day when Mr Hewes uploads a new video
Jack has a pretty good aim with that 'ammer!

The hanging dash is a nice touch
love the vid and the cat in workshop 👍

Oh you lads do have some fun , cool video as always .
Back in the Day Priestmans were awesome.... Then again I am old so would say that.
Great stuff
Here again. Seen the Instagram post looking forward to seeing this video
Definitely a challenge when you need a 200 ton hammer
Not sure what show you guys would be best on! Top Gear or Scrapheap Challenge!
Top effort lads. 😊
All of the tools 😂😂😂 Both!
Master craftsmen at work 👍
19:17 Your honesty makes these videos mate 👍🏼👍🏼🤣🤣😂😂
quality vid lads
The best thing ever, what ? All of yous most of all the dog.
Have exactly the same situation with my excavator... good to know the track can be reinstalled without having to break it...
SOME VERY WELL THOUGHT OUT BODGE JOB s THERE 😮.😊
Walton land drainage. There's a name from the past.
Great vid joe
If you want to do it the fun way use a couple of chain binders and a come along
Nothing sketchier than field repairs with the wrong tools. But if it works, who cares. This job looks a lot like prime farm repair make do and get it working. 😅
Definitely looks like a farm machine😂!
I used to drive the mustang 106 in the 80s they were a good tool but the jcb of the day was a bag of scrap but look how things change
Think my dad designed the controls for that. He was a designer at Priestmans in Hull in the 60s/70s and used to do the cab/control designs
This rings of andrew camarata changing tracks but on a larger scale.
Good ole D-series Ford engine.
Just love the the fact it’s mint condition 👌😉
Now the track is fixed it can go on a low loader to the scrap yard 👍
Outro was on point
All you need is a mohawk and a cannon that fires watermelons 😂. If you can find them maybe you can hire the A-team
We had a Priestman duck with a scrap grab on. Was glad to see it go.
that travel lever would be funny as all hell if it would have had a single pedal on it instead, imagine trying to get out while its running and just snapping to the side
You could have given the ram some wirewool or wirewheel treatment before you pressed it back in 😂😂
Awesome sauce.
"Can you just ...?" one of the worst phrases to hear, regardless of what you're good at, or what the problem turns out to be.
The fan belt is as slack as the elastic on my ex’s knickers….
you could have a giant robot wars with that digger and yours
This channel should be renamed "I think all of the violence" 😁
Consider how well you will do when you're as old as that digger. Respect your elders. specially if you're driving it.
Yours appears to be in good condition in comparison.
Hewes Plant hire could be a thing!😂
Don’t fancy it yourself then😂
I get the impression that the main problem was a habitual lack of greasing😁!
It’s got a tree 🌳 growing in the cab. 😂. How old is that digger?? 1980??
Thought u were gonna ask about how old the tree was. Cut it down & count the rings on wee stump.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I think tracks even rubber ones are the least friendly bits of kit there are.
You need your own show on tv mr hewes hazardous hobbies(but I take payments).
Some routine maintenance would have helped
me and my grandad both use this control pattern on our kobelco digger.
I don't know wait no one else likes it?
Where's Matt when you need professional help? 😂
Jack is a todler!
