Great videos. I have just bought a DR650. About to go on the last ever “Great Australian Ride”. Byron bay 7,500 kilometres to Steep Point WA. All off road.
@@MOTODANS yeah, it going to be a challenge. Seems that around 50 percent of riders don’t make it each year. I’ve done a few big tours on various bikes, but this will eclipse them all. Cost $5,000 Au to do it. That includes food and a few nights accommodation. Riders have to pay for their beer, petrol and flights home plus bike transfer back home also. Tour leaves on July 31st returns 21st August. I quit my job to do it. Will make a video when the tours done and upload to UA-cam.
@@MOTODANS Ya pretty much same as everyone else, suspension, panniers , comfy seat and windscreen I like the Yenkro fairing but as you said its rather expensive
You really should grease the edge of that filter. Coupled with the lock, it seals the filter's edge against the air box, preventing dust from entering the carb from the edges.
didnt have $40 for supplys, so i used some diesel to clean, and some 5w30 i had, worked fine. just cleaning my filter, saved about a 1/4 litre per 100 kms.
Diesel fuel, gasoline, etc. are not advisable for your air filter. They are petroleum products and will break down the foam in the filter. Also, 5W30 tends to hinder the breathability of the filter because of it's weight. It smothers the bike. Safe riding, bro.
Is it not ok to just use soapy water (dish soap) to clean filter? followed by whatever filter oil ( i have UNI spray oil)? I see everyone using different stuff from kerosene to turpentine to whatever the fuck, it's so confusing just to service an air filter.
@@MOTODANS the only downside is the appearance I think. I rather carry extra fuel tho. IMO the '15 model had one of the "most exciting" tank color anyways.
Good explanation, cheers, I’ll save this video for future reference

Dan - it's funny how I repeatedly refer to this video. Cheers Mate !!!!
No worries! Think you will be cleaning your filter more than I do being out in the desert
Hi from California USA Okay looks pretty good but what about the small filter underneath the seat
I chucked my stock one and fitted a uni air one. Clean and oil that same time as my air filter using the same method.

Thanks for the tip!

@@kentuckyjustice1408 I dried out diesel and towel dryed oiled filter, it was cleaner than it was before
just read klr 650 manual
Awesome mate. Thank you.
Nice video! New subscriber from Germany 👍🏻
Welcome to the channel! Looks like you have a Dr to? Stay tuned for some mods and trips on the dr
At what millage you recommend start cleaning this.
Depends on your riding conditions. Where I ride I do it every 5000km but check it more often. My secondary filter needs a clean around every 2000km
@@MOTODANS thanks.
@@MOTODANS what you mean by secondary?

Dish soap is ok but will not remove the old oil. Turps, then soap dry and re oil is the way to do it.
All these dr650 owners with their ugly aftermarket gas tank. I got a '15 and I would never change it for an aftermarket one.
I like the look. Doesn't dent when it hits the ground and I get almost 600kms between fill ups. I see no down sides.

@@TrancerideR6 Good thing about the Dr everyone can customize their bikes to there own tastes
why are you cleaning a clean filter?
Filter itself was cleanish but there was very little oil on the filter. Filters needs to be well oiled to assist in trapping fine dirt particles
Great, but music is noisy.
Thanks for letting me know!
How often
Depends how/ where you ride. I can go 10000kms between or 2000kms. Easy to check
