I’ve been wrestling with this bolt for 2 days and got it in 2 minutes after this video. Granted this is my first balancer swap so learned a lot haha. Thanks!
I never comment, but that is ingenious...! I've spent many an hour struggling on my own to fit my harmonic pulley, with the crank tool in my left and and torque wrench in the other; oh the stress...!! Thank you...!!! 👍😁
Brilliant, my harmonic balancer just came lose and I was looking for a simple way ro tighten it. I always keep several old belts in my trunk just in case one breaks at an inconvenient time, so this is just perfect. Thanks a lot. Leo
Had to subscribe after watching this! I tried it the normal way with the special tool, 2 breaker bars, extensions and broke them after hours of frustration. Then I read a comment to just place the socket and breaker bar using the ground to hold the bolt and turn on the engine for a split second. That worked for me and only too 1 min!
Thank you so much. It’s people like you that make UA-cam great. I was struggling with my harmonic balancer which requires 120 ft lbs torque. The engine is out and on a stand. My A/C is still on the car but your method worked with the alternator. I had to guess the torque with an air impact but it was off , so thank you again and pleas continue to produce UA-cam videos. FD
I believe i just destroyed mine with this method! After several days of changing my timing belt i can hear some bearing grinding, i actually hope that this is the AC pulley bearing and not something from my timing belt zone...
@@krispy5139 nope, i have not jumped it on a breaker bar. But i did change the excact same pulley bearing a few years ago. I actually used the same method to tighten it up 90 Nm + 90° that is what my manufacturer asked for
Thank you very much, after trying so hard on different ways, I found your video which really helped, May God bless you. I'm so thankful that I'm going to subscribe to your channel.
🤯. Life saver. Just now used this technique to torque my crank pulley on my 07 eclipse. 136 Ft. Lbs...And here I was hella stressing about how I was going to tighten up this bolt and where ami going to find the tool without having to order online.
on my 94 probe gt, it takes 120ft lbs... this is a cool idea for sure though yrs ago, I made a homemade holder that locks into my harmonic balancer to keep it from turning...
This helped a lot. Before this I was putting a C-clamp on my cam gear with a wood shim under it to prevent it from denting the head, I did break one C-clamp doing it this way and don't recommend it. I did it your way only I didn't have a spare belt I used a ratchet strap. I tied it around my pulley and wrapped it around a few times and hooked the hook on the frame but it kept slipping so I just kept sticking pieces of rubber under the strap until it stopped slipping 👍.
I tried everything until I found the belt trick it IS the only thing that worked all the special tools was a waste of time trust me when I say go with the belt trick you will be glad you did and you will save yourself a headache I had to learn the hard but such I s my life lmao 🤣 and great video thanks for sharing 💯💢💯
Awesome trick! By the way, it's bad for your torque wrench calibration to keep torquing after it's clicked. If you want more torque, set the wrench higher.
I use a threaded rod through an old spark plug as a piston stop. Or the safer bet is to feed a length of rope down into the bore with the piston at BDC and leave a tail out, then tighten the crank bolt, compressing the rope.
That's a great idea, but I wouldn't try it on some engines. BMW has some notorious high torque crank bolts 300 ft lbs + torque spec. I've undone a few and not worth risking other accessories.
Not really. Engine still spins when you are stopped at a traffic light also. Pull the starter and use the flywheel teeth would work. But this is simple and elegant.
Nice little Trick ... thanks for sharing ... Theres too many things on UA-cam now that don't work 😂 As in Yin Yang "too much of something becomes its opposite" ... UA-cam: too many solutions become no solution ... (at least your trick works👍)
It is so simple, why didn't a child think of it? I bent lots of timing cover bolts using a screwdriver against one through the pulley. Luckily they have lots of them at the junk yard usually.
You need to do some research on your vehicle find out the rotation of the crankshaftbolt remove, in this video I've got going clockwise rotation to remove
Big mistake! Great wat to lock the crank schaft. However the long extensions take a Lot of torque. So the bolt is not tightened to specification. Use a torque wrench without extensions!
Mine is 75-105. Think my buick is 70 + 90 degrees, and it is a throw away bolt. But it has extractor screws, so I put bolts in them and use a crow bar so it can't turn.
@@jfGarage4k What he means is you lose torque with added extensions. So you might be getting the 74 ft lbs "click" out of the torque wrench, but in truth some of that torque is being lost at the extensions. You could always double check your torque by removing said extensions and getting under the vehicle to get a better angle/space to actually torque it down. I'm looking at alternatives on here because my vehicle calls for a strap wrench for this procedure and I don't have one. Actually using a belt on the crank pulley and the A/C compressor didn't cross my mind, so thank you for that! Will try this out later in the morning.

This is awesome....it's sad that some folk just always gotta find something negative to say. Great job man!
People around the word are all different, and alot of haters in the internet. Thanks for dropping by champ, Awesome feedback Take care
Did this video help you in any way?
He could of killed the AC compressor. A replacement could cost more than the special crank bolt tool.

I laughed when I read the part where you said over the stress! Because I know lol that sucks. I am about to try this method out for myself

Your engine is on a stand and you can’t hold the crankshaft from the flywheel side?
You guessed the torque using an impact gun? 🤦 Well, good luck to you

..worked fantastic!!!u definitely saved my car!
Thanks for this, used the reverse method to loosen a stuck bolt on a pulley which had no holes or notches, wish I'd looked this method up sooner :)
Glad it helped
Brilliant! You don't know how much you've helped me with this video!!
Thanks for the Good Vibe! Im glad this video help you
This is a fantastic and easy way to torque that bolt, great trick, thank you for sharing.
You are smart in using belt to torque the bolt. I did that too.
Thank you for this easy and ingenious tip!
This trick worked perfect on my Nissan Xterra, thanks man!
Nice work
Good tip, although I'm not sure if this will hurt the bearings on the alternator or AC pulley.

I can't thank you enough for this trick solution. You are indeed, a life saver. I used this to torque the crankshaft pulley bolt on a 2001 Dodge Neon.
Excellent!. Thanks for watching
This is so simple and brilliant! I literally was trying everything and did this and boom, got it to spec torque which was 200 #-ft
Thank u for the trick sir! It worked like a charm!
WOW!!! It worked for me today. Thank you very much.

Just saved me $44. Thanks man. Pulled the job off with an oil strap wrench.
Glad I could help
When crank shaft bolt snap/break while driving and the gear warping with the belt, pulley also could i repair if shaft end is damage.

Is it bad if I use the one on my car I don’t have an extra belt lying around
Yes it’s bad as you would be damaging your belt using this trick.
How much torque are you losing using that many extensions
That's a great idea, but I wouldn't try it on some engines. BMW has some notorious high torque crank bolts 300 ft lbs + torque spec. I've undone a few and not worth risking other accessories.
If it’s a bmw you have enough money to buy the right tool
What are the dimensions of that serpentine belt that you use,i mean ,how long is it. You never mention that in this video
Just knew it....vry much tQ for sharing👍🙏🏽
confusing.this bolt can be open clockwise movment??
Thats for torqing right, for loosening whats the belt configuration
Belt configuration to loosens wound be other way around. Check the discreption for the videos
Will this work if i have to torque my bolt to 181 ft lbs though
Same question for me. Did it work? Fukin Toyota

Which car did this old belt go to? Mine is unfortunately way too long.
Came from Ford Escape

I bent lots of timing cover bolts using a screwdriver against one through the pulley. Luckily they have lots of them at the junk yard usually.
What about when you have a bolt that is 240 ft lbs? This will not work
Maybe a strap from the frame to the pulley?
Time to put the flywheel lock on the other end at that ft lb.
Worked on my 2013 corvette
@Jasmine & Father Garage sir what torque specs/procedure for camshaft bolt??
You need to find the torque specs for your specific vehicle
Thumbs up from me! Genius.
Great video

Great job
Sir how we know that pulley bolt open in clockwise or anti clockwise.
Because most of the bolt open in anti clockwise.
