About In The Heights:
The creator of “Hamilton” and the director of “Crazy Rich Asians” invite you to a cinematic event, where the streets are made of music and little dreams become big... “In the Heights.”
Lights up on Washington Heights...The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies this vibrant and tight-knit community. At the intersection of it all is the likeable, magnetic bodega owner Usnavi (Anthony Ramos), who saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines and sings about a better life.
“In the Heights” fuses Lin-Manuel Miranda’s kinetic music and lyrics with director Jon M. Chu’s lively and authentic eye for storytelling to capture a world very much of its place, but universal in its experience.
“In the Heights” stars Anthony Ramos (“A Star is Born,” Broadway’s “Hamilton”), Corey Hawkins (“Straight Outta Compton,” “BlacKkKlansman”), singer/songwriter Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera (TV’s “Vida”), Olga Merediz (Broadway’s “In the Heights”), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Broadway’s “Rent”), Gregory Diaz IV (Broadway’s “Matilda the Musical”), Stephanie Beatriz (TV’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), Dascha Polanco (TV’s “Orange is the New Black”) and Jimmy Smits (the “Star Wars” films).
Chu directed the film from a screenplay by Quiara Alegría Hudes, based on the musical stage play, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, book by Quiara Alegría Hudes and concept by Miranda. Miranda, Hudes, Scott Sanders, Anthony Bregman and Mara Jacobs produced the film, with David Nicksay and Kevin McCormick serving as executive producers.
Behind the camera, Chu reunited with his “Crazy Rich Asians” production designer, Nelson Coates, and editor, Myron Kerstein. He also collaborated with director of photography Alice Brooks (TV’s “The Walking Dead”) and costume designer Mitchell Travers (“Eighth Grade”). Original songs by Miranda. Alex Lacamoire (“Fosse/Verdon”) and Bill Sherman (“Sesame Street”) served as executive music producers. The choreography is by Christopher Scott, who previously teamed with Chu on the award-winning “The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers.”
“In the Heights” was filmed in New York, primarily on location in the dynamic community of Washington Heights.
Warner Bros. Pictures presents a 5000 Broadway / Barrio Grrrl! / Likely Story / SGS Pictures Production, A Jon M. Chu Film, “In the Heights.” Slated to open on June 11, 2021 in theaters and on HBO Max, the film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. It will be available on HBO Max for 31 days from theatrical release.
“In the Heights” is rated PG-13 for some language and suggestive references.

When lin told anthony "I am so proud of you my son", a song instantly played in my head...
"Oh Philip, when you smile I am undone
My son, look at my son..." 😭💕
STOP that hits different
Ahh..Yessss
@@xavierdowns9084 agreed
Also in Blow us all away when Alexander says "Take my guns, be smart, make me proud, son"
i’m like, “yo, here’s my heart.” and she’s like “alright bruh, here you go too.”

I can't be the only person who cries when Olga starts singing "Calor, calor, calor"
Definitely got the chills like Melissa did!
@@m3rrys0ngstr3ss the goosebumps!!
Instant tears. Because I just knewwwwww my feelings would be destroyed
I started sobbing so you’re not alone lol
This movie made me cry and smile alot like it's relatable
Indeed. I felt the same way. Its really in tune with my values and my perspective.
I cried too. I haven't cried at a movie theater since Tyler Perry's diary of a mad black woman. But my grandma just died in October 2020 and Abuela Claudia just snatched all the tears out of my face.
Sxe cxxxx viboe
4:15 Olga giving the other actors chills with her vocals. No surprises there.
5:16 Hamilton being proud of Phillip 😅
Look, im from Chile and we are maybe the least latin country in latin america, we dont dance, we like the cold, we are boring. But this movie makes me feel so proud of being latinamerican, i dont know why.
I'm just sad this movie was a box office bomb. It didn't deserve to be and if everything were as normal like before, I'm positive it would gain more, particularly like how cinemas aren't open yet in the Philippines and lots of us love musicals.
In latinamerica we are barely getting back on our feet again and i cant express how much it saddens me losing the opportunity of seeing this movie turn into a great phenomenon
Lin has expressed interest in doing a re-release sometime in the future like Universal did with Scott Pilgrim this year. Plus, with the soundtrack becoming bigger online, we have hope!
I think HBO having it available for streaming at the same time as the release cut into the box office revenue a lot. There's not really a simple way to translate incremental streaming subscription sales because of a specific title into box office revenue.
Anthony: Oye piragüero cómo está?
Lin: I’m so proud of you my son
Me: obsessed!! ♥️
I'm cried at that part-
PRIDE IS NOT THE WORD I'M LOOKING FOR
THERE IS SO MUCH MORE INSIDE ME NOW
@@helenejapa OHHH PHILIP YOU OUT SHINE THE MORNING SUN! MY SON
melissa getting goosebump from abuela’s singing @4:20 is also me. i feel you
"It takes a village to make anything worthwhile in life" - it's so true, especially when it comes to movies. I think people forget just how much goes into making a successful film.
I love at 5:15 when lin says "I'm so proud of you my son" you can hear Anthony laugh and it sounds like he's melting- like maybe about to burst into tears laughter because I WOULD, I WOULD BURST INTO TEARS at that for so many reasons.
Lin’s “i am so proud of you my son” to anthony @5:16 got me teary eyed. it’s hamilton and philip but in another life. it’s like “look at my son! pride is not the word im looking for” from blow us all away, but in the heights version
0:30 is so cute and they look like a real family🥰
When I first saw the movie
I said that Anthony and the lil girl look so much alike that she could pass off as his daughter in real life❤️
Anthony and Melissa was a whole mood listening to Olga singing and I was the exact same way
This coming out during a pandemic was NOT FAIR
This is the best movie ever! Great cast and songs and I love Lin saying to Anthony “I’m so proud of you, my son”
Jon was right; Lin HAD to be in the movie and witnessed Anthony in the role of Usnavi , whom he once played. I mean, there’s no happier moment than this❤️👍🏻
I have listened to the soundtrack like 100 times now and it still makes me cry
Okay but....Corey and Leslie have AMAZING chemistry
In The Heights speaks to all of us!
Indeed.

This musical has OFFICIALLY made my Top 3 musicals of all time! I can’t wait for it to be released back on HBO Max.
It’s gonna come back???
What other musicals are in that top 3?
@@amenkiki3514 Yes, it will probably be back in the next few months.
@@seanlewin5453 Great question! Hamilton, for sure. Then there is RENT and Aida. I can’t quite choose between the two.
This movie really spoke to me, as a Hispanic who grew up struggling. Its always about the grind.
Usnavi in the movie: Barely able to initiate a conversation with Vanessa
Usnavi in real life: DMs her immediately
5:15
Please tell me I'm not the only one who repeated this over and over again because the chills and emotion is just.........AAAAHHHHHH! IT'S SO FREAKJNG CUTTTEEE!
I hope they re-release this again on the big screen.
Best movie of 2021

This movie is GOLD!
Yessss I'm so excited for behind the scenes stuff ♥️♥️♥️♥️
if only Anthony didn't mess up
MORE BEHIND THE SCENES PLEASEEEE
I loved the movie but I really wished that Camila Rosario was still alive.
She literally died so that they could make this movie what a queen
One of my classmates is actually related to one of the screen writers! 😁
5:15 *anthony doing his normal job*
Lin: I am so proud of u my son
😂❤
It also reminded me of them lyrics from dear theodosia hehe
*EMOTIONAL DAMAGE ACTIVATED*
This movie made me so happy.
Amazing.
Carla always has her tongue out
i would easily watch one hour of this
this movie changes my emotional life
We need a Sequel 💯

I cannot believe they did a table read. I would just be crying.
Barrera: Remember the first time we meet?
Ramos: Ha ha ha, i try to kiss you.
Barrera: Lets Re-CREATE That Scene.
I dont get this
it may or may not be from Hamilton
Dascha Polanco and Cuca are exactly the same- lol

music
9th/10th comment!
Who’s gonna tell jimmy smits what JOI means???
Hey look,,, another money losing film by this company
I saw last night and as a Latino, I felt disappointed coz Latinoamérica is more than just Cubans, Mexicans, Dominicans or Boricuas. I kind of ofensive but well...
Seeing as most latino americans are Mexican, Cuban, Dominican and Boricuas, it makes sense that these would be the majority in a film about latino Americans. Between them, they make up 78.8% of the Latino populace in the US.
@@jietroraximoff2805 yeah but the movie is presented as Latino celebration but it seems like to be an immigrant celebration so there is more than that but I enjoy it the movie so not big deal
Like I understand where you’re coming from and I’m not even part of Latin American culture but this play introduced me to a whole new world and even tho it’s incomplete, I am so grateful that I got to experience even a little bit of it, coming from the other side of the world.
It’s like when black panther came out and it represented pretty little of my continent but I was still so overjoyed that people could see aspects of it... and through this I hope people will want to see more. But in the meantime, raise the flags even if it’s one at a time.
