Sanji being a prince has been foreshadowed many times throughout the series like calling himself Mr prince in Alabasta, zoro calling him prince in long ring long land island and many other small instance
Less than halfway in and I'm sure some people have shared already, but bounties - while a good tool to indicate strength - are much more indicative of how much of a threat they are to the World Government. Exactly. While strength is a part of it, it is more so an indication of threat to the government but also the world in general. When Kid was introduced in Sabaody for example, it was specifically said he had a higher bounty because he actually hurt civilians, rather than Luffy who defeated two Warlords (one cover-up, one "minding his own business") and destroyed Enies Lobby (which they also couldn't just go flaunt about) but who doesn't go around and pillage and murder innocents. @@furorteutonicus9045 We'll have to agree to disagree I suppose. I rate the arc very highly, but it doesn't achieve the same perfection as arcs like Sabaody and Marineford. If things keep up their current quality, Egghead is going to be a very strong contender for best arc as well.

I love Robin's confidence in the crew, namely Luffy. Everyone on the crew trusts Luffy with their lives, sure, but still, most of the rest of them still freak out or get mad at him if he does something wreckless or wants to take on someone they feel is way too strong for them. But not Robin. Ever since Enies Lobby, she always stays calm and collected with whatever Luffy decides to do. And it makes sense. Going to Enies Lobby was expected to be the end of the road, guaranteed. Before Luffy broke in and successfully saved her and escaped, something like that was considered impossible. But Luffy did it. So despite her being one of the most wanted characters in the series due to her knowledge, she is able to calmly and confidently say that she isn't worried, no matter who might come after her, her crew already did the impossible for her and they will do it again.
I love positive surprises! Thank you for the video! This arc is the arc that made me really realize that One Piece can and will end sometime. There's a goal in sight and the characters are talking on how to get it. It's not a secret that "Raizo is safe!!" is one of the collectively agreed upon best scenes in the series. Specially with the build-up it has. Everyone thinks that since Jack was looking for samurai, they'd be held accountable for everything if they see Kin'emon or Kanjuro. They feel that their saviour figure they had after helping all of them and driving Jack away by having him chase on Doflamingo's prison ship, they'd totally flip and try to kill them for almost destroying this ancient country and their entire civilization. But instead?? All of them were in on protecting the one person they suffered so much for and NONE of them flinched! Not the kids, not the adults and old people. They are all, BY NATURE, so trusting and so loyal that they'd sacrifice their ancient kingdom and even their own lives for their comrades. It kind of reminds me of Tontattas if Tontattas were actually well-written. I love the little people, but them being so dumbly trusting made for some ridiculous moments. I truly respect the Minks.
in terms of plot twists I loved it because I was not very "in the moment" for the cp9 plot twist in w7 I don´t know why perhaps the Luffy and Ussopp beef had me out of sorts so I never loved that reveal like other people seemed to. So "Raizo is safe" filled that void for me.
It's funny how I saw a talking polar bear and I didn't bat an eye because of course it's One Piece. Now we find out there is a whole previously unknown race of animal people that fit in seamlessly with the rest of the world we have already explored.
I love Zou and the minks. Raizo is safe is such an iconic moment. I had tears watching the anime seeing what the minks went through to keep him safe. We got so much lore it was an amazing time. Also love how on the surface Zoro seemed like he didnt care about Sanji but we see him outside listening to what happened and Luffy even calls him out on it. So excited for everything ahead and you may want to prepare some tissues. Oda is taking a month long break so I'm especially looking forward to your videos for my one piece fix. Oh and I share a birthday with Marco and Dragon :D

So I watch the dub and haven't read the manga yet, but I cannot WAIT until you get to Whole Cake Island. I just finished it and it is by far one of my favorite arcs. Also, I need your Zoro shirt. Iconic.
What I really love about this arc is that it shows just how good Oda is not only at "show not tell" in terms of story and culture but also his skill in directing the readers in the flow of a conversation!
I love Zou! I will say the first inkling of One Piece separation anxiety set in at seeing the red poneglyph. Eek, we have a plan to the end. Exciting yes, but what about me?! I never want it to end!
aaaa you finished reading zou before i finished my zou reread!! will be back to watch this when i finish!! :) also super excited to see you so close to catching up with one piece aaaaaaa
Zou is such a great set up arc! I love the story with the minks so much and what the minks suffered through with Jack to keep Raizo safe, tugs at the heartstrings. Get some tissues ready, because I feel like there might be some tears in Whole Cake Island. Or the arc will make you boil with rage. It did both for me. You are so close to catching up and it is a good time to catch up as Oda will be on a break for eye surgery and recovery.
It always makes my day a little better to see a new Gavin One Piece review has dropped! Also just want to say I really appreciate and admire your dedication to trying to learn names and correct pronunciations bc it's SO MUCH, but you do a great job!
“Raizo is safe” just tears these minks gave their lives, shed their blood. I call those lines deep cuts, they happen every now and again. When they do I am moved, I go back and read or watch and their impact does not fade. Points that will stick with you forever.
I share a birthday with the person reviewing one piece right now 😂. May 7th whoot! Luffy's birthday actually corresponds to children's day in Japan, which I think is very appropriate for his character.
Speaking as a Sanji fan - seriously, he's my fave character in the series - you'll probably still want to smack him a bit. But he makes so much more sense after the next arc. That said, WCI is my favorite arc and I'm so excited for you to read it.
About the bounties, some don’t make sense from a power scaling point of view so my take on them is that they are supposed to represent how threatening these criminals are to the World Government, especially because of something that happens in Wano.
Great and fun review as always. :) My personal rating would also be around 9 / 9.5. That "Raizo is alive" reveal is one of the craziest in the series. Just fyi, I left a comment regarding splitting up the arcs in your last member post. If you end up splitting the arcs into more videos, do you think you want/will still catch up before going to Japan (i.e. release the videos more frequently) or keep the same cadence and catch up after?
I just finished catching up on both Dressrosa videos and was wondering when Zou would be out when I saw this. I gotta get to sleep coz it's 3:30 AM already. Can't wait to get to this tomorrow. Zou is amazing. Not underrated but often swept under the rug on just how significant it was. I'm hyped but I'll save it for tomorrow ❤
There is a whole calender put together by Library of Ohara with all One Piece character birthdays, and I believe there is at least one character for each day of the year. I share a birthday with Nerine, who is one of the Kuja girls that likes taking memos, and you seem to share the same birthday with Vice Admiral Maynard, the marine who went undercover as a gladiator in the Colosseum
I didn't know Arthur has made birthday calendar, that's so cool I gotta check that out. The only thing i remember from one piece birthdays is the fact that mine is one day apart from Luffy's 😆
Hey Gavin, there is a character born on the same birthday as you (May 7). His name is Maynard the Pursuer, and he is a vice admiral who appears in the Dressrosa Arc. He was registered as a gladiator to compete at the Corrida Colosseum but was defeated before he could participate. As for me, I have the same birthday as Mamboshi (March 30). He is the third son of the royal Neptune Family on Fish-Man Island.
Zou is such a good arc. The Raizo is alive and well moment is for many one of the best moments in OP, the minks are amazing, the humour is, Robin is, we learn so much about Raftel, Momo is a Lord 😮, the whole setting is amazing, Ryunosuke is amazing (RIP) and there is so much set up for WCI and Wano and so much hype building. And all of that in 24 chapters, with not one being not awesome 😄
38:21 I share a birthday with Shiryu (the old Impel Down warden who teamed up with Blackbeard). Idk why someone chose that for him, but im glad they did.
Oh! Haven't watched the video yet, but something you asked before, we now have a definitive answer. The current arc *WILL NOT* be finished in time for your trip in August. Oda is taking a break for a month to get eye surgery. So I hope that information helps with your planning.
I looked it up and you apparently have the same birthday as Karma (from the Whitebeard Pirates), Momonga (the Vice Admiral that showed up in Amazon Lily to invite Hancock to Marineford), and Sheepshead (a character that was actually introduced in this arc! The white-haired Kaido crewmember which fights Sanji and co. during the rain-ruption)
Gavin Shirahoshi is a kid. Shes been locked away for most her life. Her having anxieties and fears going to new places makes sense for someone who has suffered those traumas. (No im totally not overly defensive of her cause I adore her XP)
39:01 It's hilariously sad I share august 16th with sakazuki, I hate him so much! 58:43 I love this moment when law shows his childish side even if he hides behind that serious face. Franky says "Every guy loves ninjas" with the most serious face ever and even Law is totally in on it.
This is the best surprise! Can't believe how quick this came out! I've got to push through and try to finish wano soon so I can keep up with you and still watch the videos as soon as they come out. I'm excited to see you catch up and reread one piece again to see if you still feel the same about all the arcs on a second reread. Do you think your schedule for the next couple of videos / when you catch up will be different now that oda is taking a break for a month?
I share a birthday with Gambia, the guy from the Barto Club in this arc with the doting grandma. I'm kind of okay with this. I too am kind of a dope who considers housekeeping tips as the greatest wisdom.
1:06:04 lol i got to tell you! Hitotsunagi no Daihihou(The Great Treasure of One Piece) can also be Read as "The Treasure that brings(binds) people together" you are pretty spot on Brother!
Yaaaay, what a treat! Zoy is one of my favourite arcs, it's short but there's not a single moment of it that I wasn't enjoying it completely 10:30 LOVE the shirt
Slightly off topic but you said there was a middle grade series that sort of reminded you of one piece. What was the title of the first book or the series again? I wasn't able to jot it down but i'm curious to check it out!
Frostheart by Jamie Littler! The first book is called “Voyage of the Frostheart” in some overseas countries or just “Frostheart” in others, it’s so good!
i dunno the exact numbers but how would you rate the 500 ish chapters of pre time skip vs post time skip? there is nuance and the arcs are doing different things, it may just be nostalgia for me but i prefer pre time skip, the interactions with the straw hats seem more chill or we got to do them doing every day things. versus post time skip where its been more narrative driven (which is great i know it needs to get to the end at some point) but for me a little of the magic behind one piece is getting lost along the way love your videos, always tune in glad were all on this adventure together
Hey once we get there to the end of wano will you be reading scans weekly and doing chapter reviews? that would be cool one piece rn just keeps getting better and better
My birthday buddy is Koza. Honestly I’m just glad my birthday even had a character. Also, I can’t wait to see your thoughts on Whole Cake Island. Every straw hat (that’s present) gets great moments of some kind and there are other characters that I really love from this arc as well. I don’t think it’s accurate to call the upcoming Sanji stuff a “redemption”. If anything, this stuff with Sanji we’re about to get just gives us a more complete understanding of Sanji as a character. There have actually been hints of it throughout the story, but only if you notice it and then think about it. Lots of scenes are about to take on a whole new meaning. One thing I will say is that Whole Cake Island Sanji is more toned down when it comes to the simp/pervert gag (which might be why they say “redemption”).
Finally got around to watching the full thing. 39:03 Yeah, so my bday is 8th August, I share it with Hacthan and Buggy. Most of the birthdays that are submitted are basically Japanese puns. Like 8/8 is basically Hachi Hachi(Hatchan, also octopus has 8 appendages) or HAHA (like a laugh, cuz clowns)
Bounties are set by the Navy/World Govt. They're a representation of how much the authorities of the world want to eliminate that specific individual. That's how a little girl like robin can have a bounty in the tens of millions but other, arguably stronger people, get lower bounties. If they're not a threat to the powers that be, the bounty stays low or non-existent. So it's sort of like a power level, but more for influence than strength.
58:51 so that’s just a Naruto reference. Oda and the Mangaka of Naruto are pretty good friends. So in a way this is just a chapter of Oda hyping up his buddy who does a ninja manga.
To the birthday discussion, i share a birthday with Kanjuro (the other samurai with kin'emon) and tbh this year especially its so fitting because he has hot barbie pink hair for the barbie movie which also comes out on our birthday (July 21)
If i recall correctly currently there is at least one birthday for every day of the year in the calendar. And honestly Gavin is complaining but he must have someone way better than mine. Mine is the youngest daughter of Big Mom
Bounties in one piece represent the level of notorioty and clout of a specific person, basically " the threat perceived by the world government from a particular person". The bounties also indirectly indicate power scaling but not the absolute signifier of the power or strength, as the bounty is mainly due to the threat to the world government. Eneru of the skypiea didn't have any bounty as no one in the blue sea and by extension, the World government doesn't know about Eneru (Enel). PS: the reveal in this Zou arc is one of if not the best reveals and twists out there... in a story. @01:01:20 first time in one piece where it felt like one piece could end... And it made us realise one piece will not be forever... By actually getting info about the end game through the road/lode poneglyph
Hey Gavin I have an sbs question for you to decide and I’ll just assume it’s cannon. When chopper changes size does his weight change too. Is monster point chopper the same weight as normal smol bean chopper
"Raizo is safe." Me and my housemate leapt out of our seats and hopped around the room shouting like idiots. Such a good reveal. Edit 1: Minks were first named during Sabaody Archipelago as they were included on the list of slave prices alongside longarms, longlegs, and dwarves as I recall. Edit 2: Oh actually Vice Admiral Maynard the Pursuer from Dressrosa was born on May 7th.(Don't worry I don't remember him either. XD) At this point I think there is at least one named character for every day of the year. I have a character you don't know yet on my birthday. Edit 3: I actually really like Caesar Clown. My housemate is on record as wanting him to be a Straw Hat. "We need an evil Straw Hat and I love how they all bully him into doing the right thing." Edit 4: Bege's Castle fruit was first shown in Sabaody. His body 'is' a castle. People and objects can shrink down to be inside of him. So he has a fully army with him at all times. Cavalry and cannons shooting out of hatches in his body.
Back in Sabaody when Sanji joined the Flying Fish Riders to look for Camie he was reading a list of the "average price" of the different species they sold off as slaves... So even back before the time skip Oda already knew every kind of character he was planning on introducing... Humans - B500,000 Dwarves - B700,000 (aka the tontatatas from dress rosa) Minks - B700,000 (aka people from Zou and back then we got Bepo and The black cat with hawkings crew i think) Long Arms - B700,000 (aka Ideo, the boker from dressrosa who is now part of the strawhat fleet) Long Legs - B700,000 (aka Bluegilly also from the colliseum also part of the fleet) Long Necks - B700,000 Fishmen - B1,000,000 Giants - B50,000,000 for a male and 10,000,000 for a female Mermaids - B70,000,000 for a female and 1,000,000 for a male. Also there was some other option there which i didn't understand... for 10M And all ability users had special particular prices depending on each case...
19:30 When we read that week by week it was so frustrating because we were always left with cliffhangers! 38:40 The only OP character born on May 7th so far is Maynard (he is that vice admiral who infiltrated the Coloseum in Dressrosa). 40:20 "Is Caesar deep down a good guy?" No. XD 57:10 The One Piece Wiki is an online Enclyclopedia cured by fans with 7000 pages ;)
As loud and obnoxious as Sanji can be he's always come in clutch in the background. Silent and sneaky whenever you haven't seen him for awhile assume he's helping somehow.
Wow you actually remembered the slave list from Sabaody?? That actually puts your memory into perspective, even though you can't recall names (I think most One Piece new readers/watchers I know can't handle names very well lol) you can recall really old details almost to the same degree as Tekking. I'd argue you'd probably be as sharp as Tekking in terms of memory if you could remember the character names, but besides that you're pretty much probably on par already (plus I don't think you've reread the series at all yet, whereas I'd imagine Tekking's probably reread/rewatched the entire thing a couple times by now)
I really liked Raizo tricks because I read Naruto and because Naruto is a ninja manga i learned a lot from there and then when I saw that in One piece was great 😍😍
That feel when he missed the dialogue that kind of explains why Brook and Chopper are saying Sanji might not come back. They literally say it’s bc Sanjis is so self sacrificing he wouldn’t want to burden them so he went alone and might take the burden all by himself that he might not return bc of his nature. Also the Raizo is safe moment was a lot more touching in the anime 😢
Weevil took down 16 captains allied to Whitebeard, not actual Whitebeard Pirate Commanders. It's that whole fleet that appeared at Marineford, with Whitey Bay and such.
RIP Ryunosuke. He was the best of us and a real trooper 🐲
He got the Face in the Sky treatment

Get some tissues ready, because I feel like there might be some tears in Whole Cake Island. Or the arc will make you boil with rage. It did both for me.
You are so close to catching up and it is a good time to catch up as Oda will be on a break for eye surgery and recovery.
Thanks for your review Gavin! Happy you still enjoying
It always makes my day a little better to see a new Gavin One Piece review has dropped! Also just want to say I really appreciate and admire your dedication to trying to learn names and correct pronunciations bc it's SO MUCH, but you do a great job!
They even mentioned jack even earlier! Back in punk hazard when the underworld watches the livestream of ceasars bioweapon
“Raizo is safe” just tears these minks gave their lives, shed their blood. I call those lines deep cuts, they happen every now and again. When they do I am moved, I go back and read or watch and their impact does not fade. Points that will stick with you forever.
43:05 His name is Capone "Gang" Bege so that's a safe bet
I love the Raizo reveal. One of my favourite moments in the whole series, Cat Viper and Dogstorm are great.
the way you say "Jack" reminded me of The importance of being Earnest, the part where Gwendolen was like "so your name is Jack?"
Yes, WCI is Sanji's Enies Lobbie the same way Enies Lobbie is Robin's Arlong Park
I just checked and I share a birthday with Princess Mansherry.
I didn't know Arthur has made birthday calendar, that's so cool I gotta check that out. The only thing i remember from one piece birthdays is the fact that mine is one day apart from Luffy's 😆
Barto and I share a birthday month! 😊❤️😊
Awesome video as always. ❤️❤️
Next comes my favorite arc in One Piece! Excited!
I share birthdays with Gaimon....
Oh! Haven't watched the video yet, but something you asked before, we now have a definitive answer. The current arc *WILL NOT* be finished in time for your trip in August. Oda is taking a break for a month to get eye surgery. So I hope that information helps with your planning.
It does, thank you so much for letting me know!
I share bday with luffy 5/05 ! He is my favorite character across all media so im glad
And just to add salt to the wound if I was born on the 15th I'd have the same bday as Bon clay, so close :(
This is the best surprise!
Your almost caught up just a few 100 to go 🎉🎉
in every other story, a few 100 would be mental. In One Piece its just barely an inconvenience. 🦅
1:06:04 lol i got to tell you! Hitotsunagi no Daihihou(The Great Treasure of One Piece) can also be Read as "The Treasure that brings(binds) people together" you are pretty spot on Brother!
Yaaaay, what a treat! Zoy is one of my favourite arcs, it's short but there's not a single moment of it that I wasn't enjoying it completely
10:30 LOVE the shirt
So you are a Charlotte then, accurate pfp
@@Lackadais1cal How would a picture of Garp be accurate with the Charlottes? Doesn't make sense.
Love your reactions
Slightly off topic but you said there was a middle grade series that sort of reminded you of one piece. What was the title of the first book or the series again? I wasn't able to jot it down but i'm curious to check it out!
Frostheart by Jamie Littler! The first book is called “Voyage of the Frostheart” in some overseas countries or just “Frostheart” in others, it’s so good!
Ok i’m catching up to your dressrosa vid now, can’t wait to see what u think about Zou!
i dunno the exact numbers but how would you rate the 500 ish chapters of pre time skip vs post time skip? there is nuance and the arcs are doing different things, it may just be nostalgia for me but i prefer pre time skip, the interactions with the straw hats seem more chill or we got to do them doing every day things. versus post time skip where its been more narrative driven (which is great i know it needs to get to the end at some point) but for me a little of the magic behind one piece is getting lost along the way
love your videos, always tune in glad were all on this adventure together
Hey once we get there to the end of wano will you be reading scans weekly and doing chapter reviews? that would be cool one piece rn just keeps getting better and better
time to start Zou! can't wait
Closest thing to a One piece encyclopedia is the one piece wiki page
Zunesha was inspired by Salvador Dali's The Elephants. He's is walking on the bottom of the ocean.
I totally feel you on not really caring about power scaling; It all gets a bit overwhelming loll
UA-cam betrayed me in two ways: by not giving me the notification from this upload, and by taking FIVE DAYS to suggest this. Like, what???
1:17:37 Can’t wait to see the look on your face when you find out who the king of Goa is. 😂
Woooooo more Gavin
Three’s a good call. No need to rush considering how close you are to catching up now.
Earlier than usual, nice. Now I have a "friend" to accompany me during my dinner.
Mine is May 11th.
Just 2 days away from Koby
Can't wait to watch Gavins video again :)
So good
To the birthday discussion, i share a birthday with Kanjuro (the other samurai with kin'emon) and tbh this year especially its so fitting because he has hot barbie pink hair for the barbie movie which also comes out on our birthday (July 21)
Cant wait for you to get to wholecake
Hey Gavin I have an sbs question for you to decide and I’ll just assume it’s cannon.
When chopper changes size does his weight change too. Is monster point chopper the same weight as normal smol bean chopper
An easy way to remember is that Zou rhymes with both row and sow
"We need an evil Straw Hat and I love how they all bully him into doing the right thing."
Edit 4: Bege's Castle fruit was first shown in Sabaody.
Humans - B500,000
Dwarves - B700,000 (aka the tontatatas from dress rosa)
Minks - B700,000 (aka people from Zou and back then we got Bepo and The black cat with hawkings crew i think)
Long Arms - B700,000 (aka Ideo, the boker from dressrosa who is now part of the strawhat fleet)
Long Legs - B700,000 (aka Bluegilly also from the colliseum also part of the fleet)
Long Necks - B700,000
Fishmen - B1,000,000
Giants - B50,000,000 for a male and 10,000,000 for a female
Mermaids - B70,000,000 for a female and 1,000,000 for a male. Also there was some other option there which i didn't understand... for 10M
And all ability users had special particular prices depending on each case...
XD
57:10 The One Piece Wiki is an online Enclyclopedia cured by fans with 7000 pages ;)
As loud and obnoxious as Sanji can be he's always come in clutch in the background. Silent and sneaky whenever you haven't seen him for awhile assume he's helping somehow.
22:40 wow. now that you mention it...
Love your One Piece videos ❤ Apparently I share a birthday with Rob Lucci 🥲😅 but also Chimney ❤ (the little girl from Water 7)
Wow you actually remembered the slave list from Sabaody?? That actually puts your memory into perspective, even though you can't recall names (I think most One Piece new readers/watchers I know can't handle names very well lol) you can recall really old details almost to the same degree as Tekking. I'd argue you'd probably be as sharp as Tekking in terms of memory if you could remember the character names, but besides that you're pretty much probably on par already (plus I don't think you've reread the series at all yet, whereas I'd imagine Tekking's probably reread/rewatched the entire thing a couple times by now)
I really liked Raizo tricks because I read Naruto and because Naruto is a ninja manga i learned a lot from there and then when I saw that in One piece was great 😍😍
Jinbe for me! I was so happy when I found out because he’s one of my favourite characters in the story!
Is fun how he saying shiraoshi don't cry be brave and
How much she suffer going to the rivery 😅😅😅😅
Nin Nin!!!!!!!!
"Gavin and the way of the ninja" should definitely be a novel!
Weevil took down 16 captains allied to Whitebeard, not actual Whitebeard Pirate Commanders. It's that whole fleet that appeared at Marineford, with Whitey Bay and such.
