I don’t know who did the mix on this, but you actually can’t hear half the solos! That song absolutely slays, but you have to find a better version to get the full effect.
I think the sound problem come from the video of Andrew, cause if you check the original video in the description the sound is correct.
Very sad as Janick played great that show
This version is probably the best recorded version of this song. The audio in the original clip is perfect so must have been an error when Andrew rendered the video. He likely heard it fine but it's just that we can't.
I just wanted to say the same but the original video is ok so it's Andrew's upload.
Indeed!!!!!!!
Nicko said that this is one of the hardest songs for him to play due to all the time signature changes
Prog as its best
Said this many times. IMO, this remains one of Maiden's finest live performances. Practically faultless.
It's by far my favorite concert of all time. I spent hours upon hours learning to play the guitar along with this DVD. From The Wicker Man straight through to Iron Maiden.
It was just a killer setlist, a massive crowd and 6 guys with the fire back inside them after the trials and tribulations of the 90's.
Up The Irons \m/
@@na-tv6rnAnd down the hops! Killer live performance.
People look down at the Bailey era, but it's in that era that we got songs like this one. I regret nothing, there are several songs in both The X Factor and Virtual XI that I love.
This Snare was a Premier Bell Bronce Snare 14 x 6,5. This was Steve Harris himself who mastered the Sound
Hmmm I really may be wrong but thought he used a premier signia snare on the Brave New world tour 14x5.5". Fine fine snare whatever with more crack than ........... Can't say that lol 😁
I know you love change-overs from Black Sabbath but, Iron Maiden are the true masters of transitions as such!
The rime of the ancient mariner...a true blasting music...5 songs in one...
Yup!
I can proudly say I was there, as a teenager. And Halford also killed on the stage just before them. What an amazing night! 🤘🏽
I was there too. What a night!
Kevin Shirley mixed and produced the audio, Dean Karr directed, but the footage was edited by Steve Harris. The whole show is just...chef's kiss, from beginning to end - highly recommended. If there is any downside, it's that the 3 guitarists were still figuring out how to really work together, so songs like The Trooper are missing the little additional harmonies that have become prevalent in the intervening years - but for energy this show is the business
the editing is awful - there are shots reused in multiple songs (FoTD / Hallowed) , and the audio is overdubbed as well (eg bruce doesn't sing the last few Whoa Whoas on Wickerman in the actual live show - but its copy pasted in the release) . if you want to hear a true (and best) representation of the BNW tour , look up the Dynamo recording.
@@benjambreeg There are far more overdubs than the Wicker Man vocal (whole sections are pasted in from other shows on that tour, and not just vocal), and I never targeted the editing in particular as being any good - but I do believe the whole show is great from a vibe and energy point of view, sonic tinkering and fit-inducing editing be damned. I heard a truer (and better) representation of the BNW Tour at Earls Court in London, Block 27, Row D, Seat 23 on June 16th 2000, adn then an even BETTER version at the special FC only event at Shepherds Bush Empire on Jan 6th 2001, which was I believe, one of the only times they played Out of The Silent Planet :) (and hey, at least the overdubbed and comped stuff on this show is from other live shows - Live After Death's overdubs are all studio recorded!)
This was 23 years ago and they are still rocking
Amazing 🙌
Hi Andrew check this song Iron Maiden - The Evil That Men Do, live @ Tele2 Arena, Stockholm Sweden 2018-06-01 the drum part is amazing 🙂
Hi Andrew, I love how Nicko's bass pedals and drum fills are always in the pocket. Like reading the last page of a book where everything works out perfectly.
Rock in rio 2001 someone throws a skull up on the stage at the end of the concert and Nicko picks it up and walks off stage with it. 😂💀💀💀
🤣🤣🤘
Man how have you not done where eagles dare yet. His signature…
You should check out Iron Maiden's "Alexander the Great". It was released in 1986, and first time EVER they played it live was in 2023.
Really
Huge Iron Maiden fan here. Always thought the drums on this album were the best sounding of all maiden albums. The snare is killing. Wonder what it is ... The rest of the kit is a Signia Marquis i believe.
My second favourite song from IM just behind "The rhyme..."
I saw this song live with Blaze on vocals when they toured just before the album was released and was absolutely amaizing, but I have to say I really like this one with Bruce voice and energy.
I know I will be crucify by some of your Andrewliebers here, but IM taught how the ProgMetal have to sound like, they are playing ProgMetal since mid 80´s
Great video as usual, but I'm not sure it needed the 8 minutes of blank screen at the end lol 😅
Thanks as always for the videos, Andrew. I am not surprised that you went from an extended discovery of Ozzy's catalogue to Iron Maiden. They really are two of the best bands we've ever had that do this sort of thing......
A lot of the songs in the concert, Bruce stands on top (behind) of the drums and I always wondered without in-ears if that's intentional. Great song, great reaction! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
They have monitors all over the stage. I think it's more of a performance thing. It fills the space visually.
@lungfulldrummer8921 it does look really cool. As a singer I can't imagine being on top of the drum kit lol.
this Iron Maiden rock in Rio use to be one full length of this concert of the Sign of The Cross video you were reacting to now they split it up into individual songs of this concert so to get all songs to watch and listen to in this one concert you have to type name of song and also along with name of song put in Rock In RIO 2001 there plenty more awesome video and audio of this one concert
Rock in Rio 2013 is a good one to choose some maiden songs from.
Nicko Mcbrain is always up there with Tommy Aldridge and of course Terry bozzio
I was there! Concert was amazing. Last show of their Brave New World tour. 200k + people at 40 degrees temperature in Rio.
I haven't played drums for five years due to being homeless but last week I bought a set of TAMA's
The snare on that recording is my heaven 👌
fooking legends
I saw IM in 2019 in Hartford Connecticut and the show was amazing The stage sets were out of this world and the sound was crisp and clear My only problem was that according to the promoter the band hadn't played my state in 28 yrs😮 and they didn't even do a 2 hr set Where as they did almost 3 hr sets leading up to the show Couple that with the $150 USD ticket price I felt a bit short changed Other than that I had a great time and the entire show is on Yt just sesrch IM Hartford Connecticut 2019 ✌️😎🧐🤘
Maiden's setlist and show length are the same every show, usually between an hour and 45 and 2 hours. They have never played almost a 3 hour set, and the 2019 tour was choreographed like a Broadway play because of the stage changes made for every song. And the promoter was wrong. I saw Maiden in Hartford in 2006, opening night of the A Matter of Life and Death tour.
@@talismanmia2537
Yep, you're 100% correct. I live just outside Hartford myself and have seen Maiden at the Xfinity Theater (it's been renamed several times since I've lived here) in 2003 (the Gimme Ed 'Til I'm Dead tour with Dio and Motorhead), 2005 (Ozzfest w/Sabbath) and 2006 (opening night of the AMOLAD tour as you said), in addition to 2019. You're also correct that Maiden never plays for longer than 2 hours, let alone anywhere near 3.
Sorry OP, but some of your facts are way off.
Andrew, i remember watching a documenary on this and the issue with the crowd claps, infact most crowd claps at maiden concerts are that the crowd clap along to the big screens.
So as nicko is clapping in time, the fans watch him on the screen and it has a slight lag, so those who clap in time and those who clap to the screen clash.
I remember Steve said he was gutted when he tried to mix it. you can hear the crowd in the mix kind of phase in and out due to them trying to fix it in the mix.
So yeah, clapping to a lagged screen
Gotta react to live no bull concert by Acdc One of Rudd's best shows on drums Andrew
Good call...Phil Rudd is the definition of "steady" and "groove"...Andrew would really appreciate Phil's simple, rock-solid backbeat.
that link in the comments to a modern drummer interview with nicko. he goes into detail about the angle of his ride, why it is that way and where he hits on it for various songs, why he uses 1 drumstick with the nipple and the other with the other end and so on. his advice to young drummers to practice a lot and to play different types of material at the start seems good if one wants to be really good.
The song is from the Blaze Bayley era.
Maiden without Adrian Smith and Bruce Dickinson.
Yesterday i saw Bruce solo in Cologne Germany.
Same powersound. Okay, Bruce worked with the Maiden Crew. 😉
The drums were f*ing straight. 🎉
Maybe you check the live version of that song Rock in Rio 2019 or 2022.
When you see a drummer's hair being blown back by a fan you know they're going to go HARD!
Edit: As others have said, there was a lot lost in the repost of this video.
On the plus side, I get to take my step-daughter to see them here in Auckland in 2 months.!!!!
Someone's used an AI video upscaler on this footage. The only existing footage is SD, DVD quality. You can sharpen it up a little with AI upscalers, but if you try to go too far with it, things just start to look wierd.
Best snare ever!!
Sounds great
As I Lay Dying dropped off a brand new single “The Cave We Fear to Enter.” It’s the newest song coming from their upcoming album. They have 3 new members….
One of the best Live-Concerts on the World
Up The Irons 🤘
With this song I think Blaze sang it better. But alot of the songs on those Blaze era albums Bruce makes them even better. They both sing Clansman great but Bruce adds his range to the song and make twice as good.
Do they still sound this good?
This was their best period in terms of performance in my opinion, so I wouldn't say they still sound THIS good. But they're still pretty close to this in terms of quality
@@robertblackwell8611 👍
Bruce's voice is more worn and the tempos are a bit slower, but other than that, they still nail it every night. Their consistency is incredible...Davey, Adrian and Janick haven't lost a step with their guitar playing. It's actually amazing how nimble their fingers still are given their ages.
World class band.. And they have been for 40+ years
Hi have listen to pachendale
Wow. What a great performance! Great reaction/analysis as well. With the possible exception of the last 8 minutes. The black screen bit was a little boring lol.
Ciao, in un intervista NICKO disse che questo è il brano più difficile
oh wow I like to correct myself they now have the full concert back on UA-cam as before they broke up the songs to this concert song by song individaully singles I just found the full version if you like to react to the whole full video of the Iron Maiden Rock in RIO concert you can 4k 60 fps Remastered love to watch it if you up to reacting to it I'm up to watching for the 1000 times one of my favorite concerts to watch of Iron Maiden
The sound was off, could barely hear Janick during his solo. The Blaze years... X Factor is really top 3 Maiden albums in my eyes, I like it that much!
Maiden showing why they are the grandfathers of BWOHM - just killin' it! 🤘
Hi Andrew, from P.R. ,please you got to analyze when the wild wind blows live, and Up The Irons
Finally a great drummer track. Next out should be PACHENDALE or see the Modern Drummer video from 2019 with Nicko.

thank you this was really interesting. what a nice guy.
on the modern drummer video linkmbelow he explains the ride placement.
I love the Rock In Rio concert from 2001, but Steve decided to become an amateur video editor, and he's REALLY not cut out (ha! no pun intended) for it. Everything is just cut-cut-cut with no ability to focus on anything for more than 2-3 seconds. The mix is also quite muddy.
Having said that, the sheer genius and energy of Maiden live, along a massive South American crowd, STILL makes for an extremely gratifying watch.
Its almost like Janicks guitar has lost in this mix?
I have the DVD and in it that certainly sounds different.
ua-cam.com/video/FBanU-AHMqg/v-deo.htmlsi=dE-xZQK8YhNIC2nk
There, listen to the difference from around 8’00mins when Daves solo ends and then later when the whole solo parts slow down again for the galloping rythm.
And the live sound is over dubbed in a studio as well as Steve Harris has confirmed it.
Yup there was a point in time where 'live' was no longer live
@@AndrewRooneyDrums ,whoa the man himself!
Great channel and good stuff. Keep it up 👍🍺
These aren't as great as the older lives, hope u react to the older ones
I'll get there!
The sound is the same from the original DVD. Only de image quality was remastered
Начало песни Слышу слова на Русском языке " Боже Алилуя".
Adrian was missing from the audio
Janick Gers guitar was muted here ^^... wierd mix
Please revisit the drum solo of Santana Sole a sacrifice live in Tanglewood. It is better than Woodstock😊
Yeah this version is missing a chunk of the guitar fills and solos The original has
bruce dickenson is a great vocalist but blaze baley was quite good too.. they could've kept going on with him..coz they changed their style with this album
It seems one channel is heard less or not heard at all. I do not know which one , left or right. But the guitar solos are very silently ....
love the video, as always.
But you're missing your true calling, voice over work. I think you'd kill it
I’m glad you’re doing these videos. Nicko doesn’t get enough love.
Are you sure 🤔 🤔
@@brucedickinson12 am I sure he doesn’t get enough love? Yes. Never hear him talked about in metal drumming greats, never discussed on Drumeo or other popular drum channels, not enough reactions or covers.
Saludos.
Please dig into the older vids!!
There's so many of all types :)
Como no te voy a sacar del Metal, al menos haz un vídeo reaccionando a "Cemetery Gastes" de Pantera, me gustaría.
from 7;17 I m glad I m not Nicko..would screw it up totally ,all the tempo-changes :-)
LISTEN TO "" RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER""LIVE VERSIÓN FLIGH 666
Problem with sound. One side is gone or something..
Nothing worse than a Flammy hand clap!
LOL
Yes!
Andrew, love your videos but please stop going on about double kick, Nicko DOES NOT USE DOUBLE PEDAL, it’s all one foot. Nicko and Ian Paice are definitely the best single kick players in rock. 🤘Up the Irons 🤘
Seventh Son of the Seventh Son
Great song. Shame about the mix... one guitar pretty much missed....
60fps looks like shit for anything except video games (& maybe sport?).
The official version of this is *not* at 60fps… that’s some motion smoothing bullshit, & makes it look terrible
Yeah it's not the one
Bad video version. 1 guitar's sound is lost...
I have the DVD and I can swear that guitar is clearly heard
I think some uploaders might be using videos where they cut the skins of an instrument to avoid copyright strikes
@rogeriopenna9014 I have the cd and it is not the same. There are other uploads where you can hear it.
The mix of this video is awful you miss half of the leads harmonies and solos 😢
