I do agree but have one little name that I must ask you to reconsider as at least a tie... Black Sabbath The Ozzy years The DIO years THE TONY MARTIN YEARS
Iron Maiden are definitely the masters of epic song writing. They hardly give you a slot to breath during the songs. They write long tracks and manage to keep the listeners' attention span alive through out it all...
First time hearing Bruce version of this song. He nailed it like always. The X Facter is a very underrated album. When it came out my buddies hated it but I always love it.
You should do an Iron Maiden day every week, due to his long catalogue and importance in the genre, and do yourself a favour and check this entire rock in rio show, it's just mindblowing! Classic gig!!... All the best guys!!
If they did not love what they do, they would not have been able tour non-stop for decades like they did. But I agree it is great to see them having a blast playing ;)
Really glad you guys did this song. It's my favorite on the DVD :) The drummer is a born again Christian (Nicko McBrain). The singer is Bruce Dickinson. Steve Harris (the bassist) always wears shorts...it's a trademark of his, he doesn't have to worry about his wardrobe when his bass does all the talking. ;)
"The name of the rose" is actually a famous book by Umberto Eco (and a very good movie exists) which is partly about the inquisition. You should look it up, it is very interesting to read/ watch. It takes a look on the different worldviews inside the church in the 13th century, between the more open-minded scientist-like monks and conservatives.
"The name of the Rose" is a "murder-mystery" / philosophical novel set, as has been said, in a 13th century monastery. Highly recommended read, as it raises some good questions.
yeah nice you bring that out 'cause this song is totally based on that book, thats why all those meaning in the lyric, a great lyric by the way, Steve is probably the best metal songwriter ever, this song was written by him, his lyrics always have a deep meaning.
Sigh, I can’t say enough good things about Iron Maiden. They’re my all time favourite band. Bruce Dickinson is one of the best metal frontmen, top 3 for sure.
Please, review each and every song off this show, from the first one to the last one. You won´t be disappointed whatsoever, since each song is a masterpiece by itself.
One of the best live acts of all time for sure. Next one, Hallowed Be Thy Name flight 666. It'll blow your minds! My first Maiden show was in 86, and I've been going ever since. That's my pick. Be sure to have the lyrics ready, there is a lot to discuss for that song. Thanks for covering Maiden guys!
Iron Maiden have 3 lead guitarists, Adrian Smith, Janick Gers and Dave Murray. Dave have been with Maiden since the beginning, and Adrian joined after they had recorded their first album in 1980. Adrian left the band in 1989 and Janick Gers replaced him in 1990. In 1999 Adrian came back, together with Bruce who also had been away for some time from Maiden, and they became a band with 3 lead guitarists.
The big reason why they can have three lead guitarists is because the bass provides all the rhythm. Steve's bass really does fill all the rhythm guitar niche that they need.
Steve Harris plays football , the top & shorts are part of the Iron Maiden Football Team kit, they actually play football matches on tour. Maiden has three lead / rhythm guitarists Adrian Smith , Dave Murray & Janick Gers.
Ulf John, remember, these are Americans. It's soccer to them. BTW, guys, Steve is/was good enough to play pro. If you play with/against him and the Maiden team, you better be good.
Maiden Monday or Tuesday, or whatever day, please. Can't wait to see your reaction to Iron Maiden - Empire of the Clouds. I'm sure it's gonna happen one day. Love you guys!
Iron Maiden - Empire Of The Clouds Iron Maiden - When The Wild Wind Blows Iron Maiden - For The Greater Good Of God Iron Maiden - Dance Of Death Iron Maiden - The Nomad Iron Maiden - Como Estais Amigos Iron Maiden - Virus Iron Maiden - Judgement Of Heaven Iron Maiden - Afraid To Shoot Stangers Iron Maiden - Holy Smoke Iron Maiden - The Evil That Men Do Iron Maiden - Heaven Can Wait Iron Maiden - Reach Out Iron Maiden - Powerslave Iron Maiden - Revelations Iron Maiden - Children Of The Damned Iron Maiden - Murders In The Rue Morgue Iron Maiden - Phantom Of The Opera Iron Maiden - Burning Ambition
Vin, Sori... Iron Maiden has three guitar players (the three amigos) and all of them play lead and rhythm roles... depend of the song (year/era) some of them play lead roles. This song for instance, was released when Adrian Smith was not on the band (he took off in 1990 to work on solo projects, Adrian was in the band since 1981) for that reason Adrian is not doing any solo on this one. However Janick Gers share or play some Adrian Smith solos (has to be under Adrian's authorization) that fits to the band. Janick Gers was Adrian Smith replacement on the guitar and his debut was on No Prayer for the Dying album in 1990. Ever since Janick is another Iron Maiden family member and has been a key member for his writing credits on the Iron Maiden song list such as Be Quick or be Dead, Dance of Death, Dream of Mirrors, Ghost of Navigator, Man on the Edge, Book of Souls, The aftermath, Wasting Love, etc.... (wow... all the mentioned ones are great songs....). The point is that when Bruce (who left the band on 1993) and Adrian rejoined the band on 1999 Iron Maiden popularity grew more and more... If you notice, the band has a very good trajectory and massive impact to the metal scene.
Rock in Rio is my favorite live DVD. awesome staff. And I really love song the thin line between love and hate.... Every song from Maidens is epic. The music, lyrics and entertainment in on top.
Thanks guys so much for this awesome reaction! Here are some of my Iron Maiden suggestions for next reactions: Seventh Son of the Seventh Son, Dance of Death, The Book of Souls, Afraid to shoot strangers
I love all Maiden songs, thanks for the review. 10 for me🤙🏼, social media is amazing within minutes I see comments that new behemoth track is out. Back in my day i wouldn’t have found that out until my Sunday newspaper was delivered to my driveway. Dam I’m getting old. JINJER- Who is gonna be the one( official live version) 🤟🏼🤟🏼
Seeing Maiden live... That is just fantastic! Only seen the band once, but still... Damn... Thanks for this, Vin and Sori =) Still pleading for: Sabaton "Resist And Bite" Melechesh "Multiple Truths" Dark Tranquility "ThereIn"
Basically what happened was that in the late 80s, Adrian Smith (the guy with the beard) left the band. He was replaced by Jannik Gears (the guy doing the splits). The singer, Bruce Dickinson, left the band in the early 90s (The Sign of the Cross was not actually recorded with Dickinson, but his replacement Blaze Bayley). Adrian Smith then played with Bruce Dickinsons solo band in the 90s. When Dickinson was invited to rejoin the band in '99, he said he would only rejoin if they also brought back Smith. Since they didn't want to fire Gears, they said fuck it - we now have three guitarists.
can't believe this performance is nearly 20 years old. They're doing Rio again this year. Saw them in London last year and will see them in LA and Vegas this year. Can't WAIT. Good job on the reaction
Don't remember seeing this before in any comments but something you may not know is that Iron Maiden's drummer, Nicko McBrain, has been a born-again Christian for a number of years now.
I love that you guys are excited about Maiden, they're the band that introduced me to metal and I've been a massive fan of them ever since - they've helped me through some tough times. The fact that you're doing songs which aren't their most commercially successful is refreshing. Peace and happiness be with you and your children.
Iron Maiden for me is the best live band, so much energy, great music, the production, everything... And btw they have 3 guitar players so they can nail the studio sound of the guitars, because they use the double lead at the same time with the rythm guitar at the back
This will make a lot of Maiden fans very happy😃. Epic band. We're my favorites in my younger days. React one time to Allegaeon: Proponent for sentience III the Extermination. Sophisticated technical metal. Brutal riffing and excellent soloing.
Yeah its Maiden Monday! Next time do Fear of the Dark or Dream of Mirrors from the Rock in Rio set. Hell you could do the entire show it’s that awesome!
Hey Vin Iron Maiden actually has 3 lead guitarists, the reason why requires a bit of backstory: In 1990 one of their guitarists Adrian Smith left the band and was replaced by Janick Gers. Fast forward 3 years and Bruce Dickinson left before the album this song was on came out. He left to pursue a solo project "Bruce Dickinson" (sidenote: check out Bruce Dickinson - Trumpets of Jericho) and the old guitarist Adrian Smith joined him on this project. Fast forward again to 1999 and Bruce Dickinson returns to Iron Maiden, and the band all missed Adrian Smith and decided to add him to Iron Maiden as well, but they couldn't just get rid of Dave Murray or Janick Gers who were both amazing so they said fuck it and became the only metal band to have 3 lead guitarists and actually pull it off. One of the reasons people requested this Rio show for this song and the Clansman song was that they were originally recorded with the replacement singer Blaze Bailey who was an alright singer but just not Iron Maiden. This Rio show was historic because it was the first time most iron maiden fans heard those songs sung with the proper Iron Maiden lineup in place.
And, to make the backstory even more interesting, Bruce was also the one who originally brought Janick into the band, after Janick had played on Bruce's solo debut "Tattooed millionaire".
Great reaction as always guys, thanks. Love when you do Maiden reactions, since It's my favorite heavy metal band. Ps.: Sign of the Cross is based on the book The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco.
Now if you guys would only react to Maiden’s Empire of the clouds or For the greater good of God my life would be complete! Thank you for these Maiden reactions!
Empire is good song and all but there’s plenty other song I would choose first imo... The Evil That Men Do, Sea of Madness, The Clairvoyant, Revelations, etc
The singer is Bruce Dickinson. They had another singer back in their beginning named Paul Di Anno. A look at their album KILLERS will give you a taste of old Iron Maiden with the original singer. A good song is Wrathchild.
Heres some suggestions for next Maiden live: -Dance Of Death (En Vivo or Death On The Road) -Fear of the Dark (Rock in Rio) -Journeyman (Death On The Road) -Blood Brothers (Rock in Rio) -Revelations (Flight 666) -Dream of Mirrors (Rock in Rio)
They are playing sign of the cross on the current tour and the back drop is amazing, Seen them 180 times over the last 38 years. I recommend the following Maiden songs to react to - Paschendale - Live on Death On The Road, The Talisman - Live from En Vivo. Empire Of The Clouds from The Book Souls - all longer songs but well worth it.
This Maiden song kicks ASS haha wow. I gotta be honest...I'm not much of a maiden fan...though I have most definitely heard songs that i like before now. But...i may be a convert after this....wow...suuuch a sick song and the live show was amazing...
Iron Maiden the Grandfather's of the "Wall of Guitars" sound. Three lead and rhythm with one extremely talented bassist, absolutely the best, I seen them live and only one's that can pull off studio sound live!
What's up, guys? Greetings from Brazil. I am one of those crazy fans at the audience very close to the first row in front of Janick from the middle to our right side of the screen. What a night! A show to remember! This song in the setlist was a fucking great surprise for me. One of their best performance for this track ever.
As others have pointed out, this song is about the Umberto Eco novel "The Name of the Rose" which is basically a murder mystery that takes place in an Italian Monastery in the 1300s (and the Inquisition is a part of the backdrop of the story). Its an excellent novel that was made into a real good move staring Sean Connery. You guys would really enjoy the movie.
This is the most fun live metal lineup ever imo. Their live acts are an absolute joy! Unparalleled really! Some experience. But strangely I had never watched or heard this song before. Thanks to whoever suggested this song! Omg a video for my favourites playlist!
I'm a simple man. I see Maiden, i click!

Black Sabbath

One of their best concerts to!
Technically all 3 guitarists in Maiden are lead and rythm guitarists. It just depends on who wrote the song or the solos.
Iron Maiden are definitely the masters of epic song writing. They hardly give you a slot to breath during the songs. They write long tracks and manage to keep the listeners' attention span alive through out it all...

I love how much fun the guys in Maiden have on stage.
Me too, but Gers sometimes forgets he's playing metal and not in an 80s aerobics class.
If they did not love what they do, they would not have been able tour non-stop for decades like they did. But I agree it is great to see them having a blast playing ;)
@@kmchipower Well, that's his way of having fun, i mean, look at Bruce, dude even dances sometimes lol

One of my favourite books. In fact, it's not simply a book, it's an experience.

Fear of the dark from the same concert is epic beyond belief! But you guys should do the whole concert😍 that would make this whole shitty year good!
This is the most fun live metal lineup ever imo. Their live acts are an absolute joy! Unparalleled really! Some experience. But strangely I had never watched or heard this song before. Thanks to whoever suggested this song! Omg a video for my favourites playlist!
