TOP 10 Best Chemicals to Remove Intake Carbon Build Up

  • After doing some research, I finally discovered THE best chemical to fix and remove intake carbon deposits on any engine: PolyEtherAmines or PEA for short.
    PEA are nitrogen based detergents that are the silver bullet against carbon buildup and deposits, and are found in many Fuel Injector Cleaner Additives, but there are also other carbon detergents in these additives that can also help, like Polaris Carbon Clean, etc.
    I came to this conclusion after researching the active ingredient of CRC Intake Valve Cleaner and discovering that there are many ways to get it in other products and use it in GDI engines or any engines for that matter.
    PEA can be found in concentrations of up to 50% in commercials available Fuel Injector Cleaning Additives, and you can use it to remove carbon buildup deposits on any engine by just pouring it directly into the intake, so it can directly react to the carbon in the intake runners and intake valves.
    Carbon Deposits in the intake valves is the most problematic thing about GDI engines, but it also affects regular EFI and Carburetor engines in the long run.

      Do the same i did in the video. If you really want to get serious about cleaning it, use *Techron Marine* since It has a PEA concentration of up to 50% so it would be much more effective at removing the carbon. If it is carburated just pour the additive directly in the carb while holding the throttle a bit open with the other hand, same method my dad cleaned carbon off his carburated cars

    Hi,
    I have a Hyundai Sonata 2012, GDI.
    I am also facing issues with CRC availability in my local store and want to try these carbon cleaners, spray directly into throttle body.
    My question is, have you experienced any difference?
    Are these carbon cleaners as good as CRC?
    Inputs would be valuable.

      Yes, Chevron Techron Concentrate is the one that works best. Lucas injector cleaner is also good, but Chevron should work even better than CRC

      Ive added gum out in a hot engine with spark plugs out. Let it heat soak for 3 hours, turn engine over to clear cylinders, reinstall spark plugs and run engine for 20 minutes. Go for a drive under medium aggresive throttle to load the engine. Repeat once a year

    wont these throw codes if you put them into the intake?

    • @BadAssEngineering
      @BadAssEngineering  4 роки тому

      You have to disconnect the MAF, and that will throw the codes, but other than that, no. Check my other video on how to use them, as I explain in more detail

    • @jeremymoreside1444
      @jeremymoreside1444 3 роки тому +1

      You can still have the maf plugged in and throw it in the intake stream past the maf sensor with no issues. Seafoam has an attachment that slips inside the boot on the throttle body so no codes get thrown

    Always thought that the volume of liquid that you add into the air intake to get it into the engine to burn should be small so it doesn't flood. You poured a lot in 😂, or am I missing a trick?

    • @BadAssEngineering
      @BadAssEngineering  Рік тому +1

      A 5300cc engine displaces almost 90 liters of air a second @2,000rpm, pouring a couple of ounces of liquid is not nearly enough to hydrolock it. Plus, once it goes into the vacuum of the manifold, it gets pulverized into a mist. To really hurt an engine this size you would need to pour gallons of water into the throttle body at once. On a smaller engine like a mower or gokart, then yes you have to be careful with the amount you pour into it

    Absolutely DO NOT use CRC intake valve cleaner on any GDI vehicle. Especially on Ford EcoBoost or VW GDI engines. Ford actually has posted a bulletin against chemical valve cleaning. Manual cleaning is the only way to go. CRC has had several cases of having to much carbon break off and causing valve and piston damage. And they dont take responsibility for their defective products. I may include that I'm a 20 year certified tech as well. I stay clear of CRC.

    • @GatesRapes

      Sounds like CRC works !!!!!!! And we're here to hear what breaks up carbon, not top end damage caused by carbon ! Seems like the engineering process needs better engineers & the manufacturer needs better materials

    • @ohboy2592
      @ohboy2592 2 роки тому

      I’m calling bs. Ford wants you to bring it in snd pay Ford to take apart the engine and walnut blast or manually scrape it off. Chunks of carbon don’t break off. The chemicals slowly dissolve the carbon into smaller particles and blow them out the exhaust. If it’s carbines up enough to be catastrophic then the chemicals wi t do anything to the carbon.

    Today’s gasolines have plenty of detergent. The government is up the ass of these companies to produce clean exhaust systems. Techron is what Chevron uses in its gasolines and it is considered the best gasolines with detergent. Shell is number one for premium gasolines. If you toss in a bottle of Chevron every few months you should have no problem with your engine. Also clean oil is best oil. A Toyota engineer says he toss in Techron once in awhile maybe because of the hype but he says it’s not needed. Won’t hurt.
