    The discussion starting around 20 mins, about what barrel maker alone means -- good stuff Mike and I see why it's a favorite topic to read about. Fools on the internet love to talk like experts when they aren't even rookies yet. Thanks for bringing Clark on to discuss this subject. Reminded me a bit of DPW Kenny's videos talking about steps that make for a precise finished product.
    Also, Clark's road/pothole analogy to bore cleaning was short & sweet, center bullseye.

Continue the good work and Clark being the precision barrel maker and shooter he is try having some talks about how he and yall as a group do your optic zeros and yardage for zeros, setups and sleds or bags for the zeroing of optics. Patiently waiting for 6mm Max barrels. What twist rate are you guys using? 1 in 8 or going to 1 in 7.5?

  • @alanmeyers3957
    @alanmeyers3957 Місяць тому

    It’s usually a generous muzzle due to erosion that ruins accuracy.

  • @seanwhite304
    @seanwhite304 7 місяців тому +2

    I guess I'm a nerd because I understood everything you guys were explaining lol.
    Outside of PRS type matches I think accuracy is over rated . Case and point . I have BA 223W 14.5 Premium Black Series barrel . I have absolutely 0 issues hitting 6" steel plate at 100 - 300Y. My rig with decent ammo shoots 1.8 to 2 more pretty consistently. The fucktard on forums will tell you that is absolutely horrible. Those fucktards do not shoot matches like I di and di nothing but bitch and complain. This is another reason why I terminated all gun forums and groups years ago . Very rare do any of those idiots offer an good info ..
    I wish you guys would a deep dive into barrel profiles and how that plays a factor . I'll be the first to tell you I'm not a fan of Gov Profile barrels and I'll never buy one unless it's for a US DOD Clone Upper . I've never been a fan of them and never will be . IMO which isn't much by the way my favorite barrel profiles are the ones that are 0.710 - 0.750 diameter under the RAIL and then have continuous taper after the gas block . MIDWEIGHT profile that tapers off is my perfect barrel Profile. BA Hanson is 0.715 to 0.750 gas block and then Tapers down . Other barrel profiles do the same that's just what I'm using as reference. Or Criterion Core is another solid example..
    Centurion MIDWEIGHT HF , LMT MRP , Criterion Core and BA Hanson are my favorite barrels .
    Colt , LMT and Centurion ive been using the most.
    Cannot wait until your New Button Cut and HF V2 Barrel Profile come out . No offense but thats the main reason why i have not bought any if your uppers because im not a fan Gov Profile barrels

  • @midwestoutdoorsman
    @midwestoutdoorsman 7 місяців тому +1

    Good to hear about the v2 profile. The only thing I didn't like about solgw rifles was the gov profile of the barrel. I usually build my own, but I might order a complete rifle with that profile now. Will it have a dimpled, pinned gas block?

    Question related to twist rate. What's the deal with BCM's KD4 barrel 1 in 7.7" twist which they say is optimized for 77 Gr. OTM. How does this stack up on paper vs. 1 in 7" or 1 in 8"?

  • @johnchamberlain1589
    @johnchamberlain1589 7 місяців тому

    I built a 12.5 SOLGW A5 about 2 years ago. Now have over 9k rds suppressed 98% of the time. I think the gas port has some erosion because ejection is at 1 o'clock suppressed now. Changed buffer weight to A5-H3( original A5-H2 buffer weight at 8k rds the spring pin backed out and got stuck buffer in tube) now at about 2 o'clock ejection pattern. Accuracy is still good for what I use it for. Need to do another build with one of your new barrels and DARC lower

    First off, LOVE the discussion. Stellar. Sons has been transparent about OEMs… who is making your CHF barrel as OEM? I fully understand all you said about different tiers within OEM production and your own QC, this isn’t a rush to judge, just genuinely curious.

    • @kennethkanaiff6242
      @kennethkanaiff6242 7 місяців тому +1

      They don't have a CHF offering. The new barrels if that's what you are referring to, are 416r stainless, and the are under an NDA and not currently disclosing the OEM. The price point rules out some companies as far as the blanks go, but that still doesn't narrow it down that much lol.

    Hey guys, Only about 37 min in. Have a quick question. . . so the new precision barrels. . . is there a tremendous difference between them and the barrel that came with the "E INDIA MATCH START KIT 18 .223 WYLDE" that you've offered at brownells and other retailers?

    What are the downsides from a reliability standpoint (if any) by trying to make a barrel as precise as possible? For example, does it make sense to make a "go-to-war" rifle as precise as possible, or are the tolerances so tight that the performance envelope is decreased to very specific conditions (i.e. salt, sand, hot, cold = won't be reliable)?

    • @5jjt
      @5jjt 7 місяців тому

      I wouldn't think a precise barrel would have any effect on reliability.

    • @ChristopherGoggans
      @ChristopherGoggans 7 місяців тому

      @@5jjtan extremely tight (but in spec) chamber is one thing I could think of as affecting reliability. It may be better at constraining and controlling the cartridge, but may make it less tolerant of grit, and grime than a slightly looser chamber. Neither is good or bad per-se, just tradeoffs IMO. My example may not even be a good example, but the concept is sound as far as I understand.
