I'm fairly new to knitting but an experienced crocheter and I've been finishing a lot of my knit pieces with a single crochet edge instead of learning to finish knits neatly. It has felt like cheating in a way, so I'm amazed to learn that it's a thing that folks used to and still do!
Pro tip if someone wants to try out what it is like having an adjustable standing desk try doing it with an ironing board first. It probably cant hold the weight of multiple knitting machines but its good with a laptop to try out what having a standing desk is like.
I was yelling at my computer to make sure you divide by 2 before decreasing. I guess you couldn't hear me. LOL. I'm glad you figured it out before completely finishing th front half.
You mentioned decreases along the knitted work vs just decreasing on the edges being difficult and time consuming. This can be managed easily and with less time if you learn to use a garter bar. The garter bar can be used to move large sections of stitches or turn them on the bed. It is often used when knitting the coveted yoke fairisle sweaters or beautiful patterned garter stitch work. They are not very expensive used and well worth learning to use.
@27:08 When you have the green piece on top of the blue that would make such a pretty sweater combination! This entire project is stunning and it's so cool to be able to see so much of the work you put into it. Thank you!
I was literally yelling in my head, "Try orange and cream!" Before you did the swatches. Then you did orange and cream, and I almost jumped for joy! Absolutely beautiful!!!
Okay I'm not one to comment usually, but I've been binging your videos recently, the first one was the seed to cloth video. Your content is so wholesome and relaxing, and it made me realize the common factor in my interests was that they are all fiber crafts! So now I got many more ideas of what new hobby to try :D Thank you so much, can't wait to watch this one when I get home!
I can't really knit by hand, but got gifted a vintage knitting machine (it's from the late 60s-early 70s, I think). You've shown me how much is possible on these machines ànd that you can convert existing handknitting patterns. Thank you for inspiring me!
Really excited to see this video right after its upload! The decorative animals in the transition are sooo adorable. It's interesting to see how the knit morphed over time with wear.
Those raglan sleeves came out so nice! I'm impressed by how well you managed to keep the look of the original when seaming them, and how little bulk the seams add.
I just love your instincts for film-making and communicating the process of this project. It’s so funny to see you making exactly the same mistakes I do when transitioning my hand knitting to a machine. You teach me in such a gentle, humorous and intelligent way. Thank you!
I have an electric standing desk for my sewing and embroidery machines, and I agree that it really is a back-saver! ❤ I love the dress, it turned out beautifully 😍
The finished dress is stunning. The colours are perfect. I really enjoy watching your projects. I don't knit, but I find all your explanations and knowledge interesting.
I am dumping all my upcoming hand knit projects to knit this dress, I *NEED* it!! (except for a pr of gloves for my husband because I started them 2 winters ago & keep putting them off!) - I just need to decide on colour, that said, the dark green tweed you used is gorgeous & one of my favourite colours.
You continuously raise the bar higher and higher! ❤ I am so in love with this dress. I a, currently replicating a dress my great grandmother passed on to my great aunt. It was a knit wrap dress but I am doing it in crochet 🧶…in super fine cotton 😂 I’m mad I tell you, mad!!😅
Merino is lovely to work with ,and with great results .this dress has turned out perfect, the style and colours.ill look forward to seeing this in other colours
Such a lovely dress. 😍 Knitting a dress is on my bucket list. I'd love to use a merino/silk blend I made a hat from last winter. It's so soft and has so much bounce and shine, it's just perfect. Unfortunately, it's also quite expensive and I have to save up for it.
I think I was like "she needs a standing desk" a couple videos ago so it's hilarious to see you sponsored by flexispot. I love my standing desk at work. Will probably end up buying one when I move 😂
Fascinating watching the conversion from hand knit to machine. Beautiful result! Also love your yarn choice, I just hand knit a t-shirt in a fingering weight neon tweet black base yarn. Such a fun yarn to work with :D
I think I feel about sewing machines as you do about knitting machines. I zen out doing it by hand but the machines make things go so much faster... when they behave. Which is by no means guaranteed, and my brain is tired after using most of my sewing machines even if my hands aren't. Wow, did that ever turn out cute!! Well done on choosing the orange, as soon as I saw your crocheted swatch with the white, I knew that was it too :)
What a fabulous project - your new green dress looks divine. I favoured the paler green colour for the trim when you were auditioning the balls of yarn........but then I REALLY preferred the pumpkin and cream once you did the crochet swatch. That was a very useful reminder to swatch !
This was a wonderful project to see being worked up. The crocheted edging was a nice touch. The sit/stand desk to mount your knitting machine to was also a great idea, one of those ah-ha moments. Your sponsorship deals have been well done too. And in the end, what a beautiful dress you've made! p.s. And little Nutella, always nice to see Nutella.
Lovely design, great colour choice, perfect execution! I'm glad you chose the pumpkin colour for the broader, that's what I would have picked too. Such a great colour, and looks nice on you
I LOVE my standing desk for fiber crafting! I’ve been inkle weaving and having the loom at just the right height is awesome. Even a height change of 2 inches makes such a difference ergonomically. I’ve never actually used my desk for standing and working at the computer lol but the ergonomics are fantastic.
Wow it turned out absolutely stunnnnningggg🤩🤩🤩🤩 I have knit a fingering weight maxi dress a few years ago and it was such a huge effort but paid off so well. I’m definitely tempted to make je of these! The fit is just fabulous and you picked the perfect colors 😍
Hey! Just wanted to let you know, that I am always so happy to find a video of yours in my inbox. They are just so soothing to me! I'm having a bit of a stressful time right now and watching you calmly explain your knitting process cheers me right up! Also, the colors you chose for this protect are so pretty, they look really good together. Happy Knitting!
Just a small accessibility point but the way the fast forwarded knitting machine footage goes from around 25:55 to I think 26:06? Creates a really rapid and high contrast flickering effect. I don't have photosensitive epilepsy so I'm not sure if it's going to be a trigger for seizures. But I am prone to photosensitive migraines and this was bad enough that I looked up from my phone to see if something was broken on my TV (and it's daylight here).
I don't even knit, yet I love watching these videos of yours. Machine knitting is magic! I am a slow crocheter myself, and it's my main hobby right now :)) The dress looks absolutely amazing, like something one would want to live in for the whole winter part of the year :) I bet it would still itch me, my skin is a diva for that, but these kinds of garments, that look extra stylish but are basically just one thing to throw on and feel comfy in are the best. Also loved your hairstyles in this one, the braided look was great!
Very nice dress, I like the cream and pumpkin crochet edge finishing, it is adorable and was the most fitting colour combination out of all! ❤ Congratulations on this lovely new addition to your wardrobe. You inspired me to go get my knitting needles. I have beautiful yarn, it’s autumnal shade of yellow with thin golden thread, I bought it 5 years ago. I intended to hand knit a cozy simple sweater for myself, but then I stressed out and put it aside. Maybe the time finally has come 😅 In my head I imagined slightly cropped sweater with fitting bodice and wide raglan sleeves, both cozy and elegant. I don’t know if it’ll work, but I think I’ll try. That yarn is just too good to be left on shelf.
I am in love with that yarn! And as someone in Australia who is not interested in H, I'm so thankful for your unique and enjoyable content at this time of year!
Thanks so much for the sweet video of Nutella! We recently lost our 17 year old fur baby and I’m missing the sweet sounds of a dog settling into calm sleep. The licks, the yawns and the sweet sighs….🥰
knit picks stroll is one of my favorite yarns and I bet it makes for such a comfortable dress! I've always wanted to try knitting a dress and now I feel more inspired to go for it.
Congratulations on powering through! I’m working on an experiment which, luckily, won’t be worn outside the house… if it was a piece I would wear in public, I’d be in the same boat (though a smaller project).
The dress turned out super well, and I am glad you are delighted with it. When I saw your machine table start moving before the spot, I instantly thought that was brilliant. One of the better uses for a useful piece of furniture. I also like your yarn board above the couch. I imagine it is both useful, and keeps things where they can be an inspiration/motivation. Take care.
I have the same thing about knitting on my knitting machine. It requires a lot of mental space. That is why I machine knit during the day and hand knit on the couch to relax in the evening. I have to get all the machine knit stress out😅
I love that you coach soccer!! 🥲 and I love this project! The yarn is gorgeous, I’m putting it on my list of yarns to find a project for. Thanks for sharing!
Really fun to follow and love as I woke up this morning. I once had a knitting machine which didn’t stretch me very far into it then, but sated curiosity… so I can relate. Now I’m relearning and intending a design happy dive into hand knitting. Love the design, your dive into vintage, and your clear transmission of process, as you experience it, to us. Good job! Really cool!
That is an absolutely gorgeous dress, everything about it, they colours, the fit just perfect. I am not an orange fan but you could not have used another colour for the same great effect
I love the look of this tweed yarn! The speckles are gorgeous! I'd love a dress like this but can't knit due to RSI (also can recommend having your workspace set up ergonomically to help avoid RSI!! I wouldn't have thought that desk height would affect my wrists, but it totally does - I recently discovered that I'm hypermobile, so if you aren't hypermobile it may not be as big an issue though)
Fun how the colour combo ended up being Green, White and Orange, the Irish flag, when there is Donegal (Dunnygawl) Tweed in it! :) The final piece is stunning, and is inspiring me to work on my own machine again after a year away (though the restart frustration was felt to my bones). I've not made a bigger project on it yet!
When you started to do the decrease calculations I wanted to call out to you to make sure you were doing it over the front AND the back pieces. I so hoped you had, but alas I was proven wrong. A very easy mistake to make in a process like this. Better to discover it at 152 rows instead of a finished piece. All part of what keeps knitting interesting for us. 🥰
Thank you so much for this. I am at a similar point in my knitting machine learning journey - I did have a machine.. oooo, maybe 35 yrs ago 😮, but I've forgotten all that😅. Loving to see you are making the same sort of mistakes as me - makes me feel not quite so dumb. Thank you again ❤

i love the levitation capabilities! You are our hovering engineer of knits!!
I'm fairly new to knitting but an experienced crocheter and I've been finishing a lot of my knit pieces with a single crochet edge instead of learning to finish knits neatly. It has felt like cheating in a way, so I'm amazed to learn that it's a thing that folks used to and still do!
You are not a cheater but creative. Happy crocheting 🎉
I use a crochet hook instead of the right-hand needle when binding off. 😅
I also use a crochet hook to pick up dropped stitches.
This dress is perfection. It may be a vintage pattern, but to me it looks timeless, elegant, and comfortable to wear.
Pro tip if someone wants to try out what it is like having an adjustable standing desk try doing it with an ironing board first. It probably cant hold the weight of multiple knitting machines but its good with a laptop to try out what having a standing desk is like.
Not really a pro tip if you watched the video🤷🏾♀️
I was yelling at my computer to make sure you divide by 2 before decreasing. I guess you couldn't hear me. LOL. I'm glad you figured it out before completely finishing th front half.
me too!
Me too 😅
Same here, and always start your project an early hour when your mind is fresh !
That's reassuring to hear. I haven't opened my used garter carriage yet
@@druidsongevergreens There is a big difference between a garter carriage and a garter bar. The uses are not exactly the same.
@@galaxythree4653 Oh gosh. I still have to learn about those differences. I'm still figuring out the basics
Ohh, great advice, i had no idea
What a stunning dress - it is absolutely gorgeous! And the "pumpkin patch" color scheme for the trim was absolutely the right choice. Brava!
@27:08 When you have the green piece on top of the blue that would make such a pretty sweater combination! This entire project is stunning and it's so cool to be able to see so much of the work you put into it. Thank you!
I forgot to say on the last video - I love those glasses on you! Just perfect!
Omg I am OBSESSED with Stroll tweed, I've already used it on like 4 different projects, I hope they never stop making it!!
That dress is the most perfect thing I've ever seen. I can't believe how well it fits you. Now you're making me want to buy a knitting machine!
You look stunning! I love that dress and love the trim colors you picked!
I was literally yelling in my head, "Try orange and cream!" Before you did the swatches. Then you did orange and cream, and I almost jumped for joy! Absolutely beautiful!!!
Glad I had you yelling with me
You are far more restrained than I am. Mine was not in my head. :D It looks SO GOOD!
Okay I'm not one to comment usually, but I've been binging your videos recently, the first one was the seed to cloth video. thx for showing the inside of the dress .. never saw an actual vintage casing .. now i know how to make one .. :)
Really excited to see this video right after its upload! The decorative animals in the transition are sooo adorable. It's interesting to see how the knit morphed over time with wear.
Absolutely gorgeous, you picked the most beautiful colors for your dress. The orange just makes it!
This dress is amazing! I know machine knitting can go wrong very fast and very dramatically but you persisted and got something really special
Thank you!

I loved this video and how happy the finished product made you, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the dress and how it fits you!!! Superb!!!!
The finished dress is stunning. The colours are perfect. I really enjoy watching your projects. I don't knit, but I find all your explanations and knowledge interesting.
Beautiful work! Awesome finish
And zero itchiness makes it even better
I love how it turned out! And I finished my newest granddaughter’s crocheted blanket while we were “visiting”. :-)
I am so happy that you chose the orange and cream!!! This came out so beautiful!!! ❤❤❤❤
The orange/ cream border is a lovely choice.
You are an inspiration to all knitters. Thank you for all your videos. And if you ever need more test knitters, let me know!
I am dumping all my upcoming hand knit projects to knit this dress, I *NEED* it!! Fabulous dress! You look absolutely wonderful in it!
Such a lovely dress. 😍

Oh my. You inspire me! I just got a knitting machine. I have a huge learning curve ahead of me. Your dress is incredible and you look beautiful in it!
Oooo can’t wait to see you create this in different colours in future. It would look fantastic in a brown 🤎 with navy and orange accents 💙🧡
That dress looks stunning!! And you're so glowing. Big hugs from Belgium
The dress turned out lovely and really suits you.
Love this dress so much! Agree that the Japanese hand-sewn sets are amazing!
When you first started contemplating your accent colors, orange was my first thought. I'm so glad you heard me!! lol
Your dress is gorgeous, AND I ordered the desk! Win/Win!

Love how the orange brought the colour of the tweed out, it reminded me of a photo of my mum probably from the late 60s the belt was just right.

Fantastic job! It looks great!
I love the location you picked for the reveal. It's an interesting location!
The raglan sleeve seam you made turned out beautifully. You have incredibly even tension!
Fantastic! I love the dress and the colors. Congrats
That dress is REALLY good. Love.
I am in love with that yarn!

OMG, so cuuuuuuute!! Stellar work as always.
knit picks stroll is one of my favorite yarns and I bet it makes for such a comfortable dress! I've always wanted to try knitting a dress and now I feel more inspired to go for it.

Hi
That is an absolutely gorgeous dress, everything about it, they colours, the fit just perfect. I am not an orange fan but you could not have used another colour for the same great effect
This is so pretty. I'm glad you used the orange! Love the the yarn!
I love the look of this tweed yarn! The speckles are gorgeous! I'd love a dress like this but can't knit due to RSI (also can recommend having your workspace set up ergonomically to help avoid RSI!! Great work! The dress turned out so well.
Wow! Beautiful job
incredible work and you look fantastic
Such a lovely project!
So impressive. The dress is beautiful and fits perfectly! Kudos!
So gorgeous! I really hope that you make one in every colour you like!
