- I had a hard time with breakage of the fine cashmere yarn on the cable design of my vest, but as this was only two pieces to make it was also a lot easier to complete!

Engineering knits is a place for people who enjoy all kinds of vintage and antique crafts - from sewing to knitting, crochet to embroidery I like to try it all. I definitely have a preference for historical fibre crafts, and it is my dream to one day make an entire outfit from sheep to sweater. I hope you enjoy watching me and my favorite companion, Nutella, struggle through some fascinating projects! - Навчання та стиль
For what it's worth, the striping from the yarns looks so deliberate to me that if I saw you in person, I'd assume that was what it was supposed to look like. I think it's a beautiful effect.
Honestly, I really REALLY love the stripes! They look both planned and organic/naturally-occurring-in-the-wild simultaneously; it's really a great unintended feature of the pieces, and it goes superbly with the cabling.
It almost has the same look as Fibonacci stripes.
Totally off-topic, but Nutella’s slow-motion ‘high-five’ was absolutely delightful!
I like the striping even better than on the skirt! It has a kind of very elevated, sophisticated sportiness that gives it depth without competing with the cables or ribbing, so it’s visually interesting without being busy.
omg, ribbing and cables and sewing on a knitting machine? WHAT WIZARDRY IS THIS!!!!!?????
seriously, it's beautiful!! the striping gives it a lot of lovely character. definitely looks deliberate. wear it in the best of health! xoxoxoxoxoxo
Those slomo images of the knitting needles of your knitting machine are very satisfying to watch. I could watch that for a long time
Now that takes me back! I was given a 20 year old knitting machine way back in the late 60’s! It wasn’t as complicated as yours, and it was a joy to use, I made all my kids and my jumpers on it. Unfortunately the machine started to rust and I had to put it aside. I haven’t used one since. Your cable knit vest is gorgeous, the “striping” looks just right. Well done! 💐
The slow-mo footage was so soothing. 😆😍
I think the stripes look cool, but I so appreciate how you're honest about an element of a project you worked hard on not working out quite how you wanted. It's frustrating when that happens! And it happens! To all of us! Not infrequently! Sometimes I delay working on sewing projects because I want to make sure they're gonna be perfect before I barrel in and "waste" the fabric but there's really no guarantees in making our own clothes and I know I'll be better off learning from each project as I go. So thank you for sharing with us how you handle this aspect of making! By sharing this you've encouraged me to jump back into a particular project I've been dragging my feet on.
I identify with this so hard!! Like, if i just plan well enough, measure perfectly, calculate every curve and inch... but that's just me procrastinating the inevitable. And the funny thing is, once I actually jump in, I have a blast and enjoy all that problem solving.
I love the vest, and I understand how you feel about the striping of the yarn. If it’s making you not reach for these garments, then perhaps dying the finished garments could help.
Thank you for sharing ❤
It's such a mood that you're watching Sims 4 videos in the background! :D
I am so loving this series. I've started half sewing half knitting a capsule wardrobe inspired by this project. I absolutely love these videos.
Awww Nutella putting her paw out for your pointed finger was so stinking cute! Also good job on the vest and skirt!
I would personally over-dye (very carefully!) the skirt and vest with a dark green. I do think the striping looks intentional though, and it's totally a matter of personal taste!
I LOVE the stripes! They give your piece so much more dimension + almost like a tweed look or something. Definitely fits so well with the vintage theme
It's obvious that Nutella keeps you sane ❤
Honestly, it's giving Missioni to me, it's an achievement. Congratulations 🎉🎉
It looks wonderful! Give yourself some credit. You did a really fantastic job, and I love the way the colors drift and pool in your finished vest. It certainly looks as though it were planned that way.
Yes please to the idea of a video about step by step converting hand knitting patterns to machine knitting patterns. I'm hoping machine knitting is making a comeback! It's incredibly satisfying to produce a knitted item in such a short time! Plus it has it's own creative possibilities vs the creative possibilities of hand knitting. Each is it's own pleasures!
Omg I love that little Nutella paw that came into frame.
I know no one can change how you feel about the stripes, but honestly, I LOVE it! It’s subtle and looks beautiful.
you posted this video about 5 seconds after i finished watching the skirt video! i loved the skirt and this is gorgeous
The striping looks great and authentically 1940s make do and mend in spirit.
I think the striping looks nice, the greens still match enough that it doesn’t distract from the cables at all so instead it’s just some subtle depth and looks like a design choice.
On the other hand if I had made these pieces and I hadn’t intended for there to be striping it would absolutely drive me crazy so I understand your frustration completely. I really admire your ability to push through and complete a project that hasn’t gone 100% to plan. I’m very excited to see your capsule knit wardrobe come together!
I actually really like the striping! Adds some character and variation to the color. I never would have thought you could do cables on a machine- that is so flipping cool!
The vest is so beautiful! I think striping ads a bit more character to the vest; it looks lovely, what a great work 🤩
It's been so much fun watching this series! To be honest, you're the reason I have my own knitting machine now lol. And you're making me want a ribber haha. But for real thank you so much for introducing me to machine knitting, I had given up hand knitting over the years because my wrists weren't up to it and it's been such a joy to make knits again.
(Also I think the stripes are pretty!)
The two different shade stripes work together so nicely! I would wear this vest, it's gorgeous!
I love how you encourage Nutella and welcome her into your videos 💗 lots of people apologize for their pets, but I love her place in your channel 🐕 I absolutely love to watch what you're making and see how you come to victory from what life throws at you. You're quite the inspiration for us 🦋 much love from Kentucky, USA! 💖
Congratulations on winning the yarn chicken face off. I will never be using a knitting machine, but it is fascinating to see what is possible.
I just realized the fabric that I'm working with for a sewing video matches your sweater at the beginning of this video😊
I like the stripes but appreciate how you articulated your reservations. It reminds me a little bit of that moment in drawing or painting when the artwork starts veering into an unexpected direction and you have to decide whether this is a time for 1) self-discipline about realizing the original vision or 2) humility to trust that the new thing is worthwhile. The stripes seem lovely, but I bet your original vision was also splendid.
The striping looks great! It seems deliberate and if you hadn't said it was not what you wanted, no one would ever know!
The stripping is making the cables pop so pretty
The close up footage of the knitting machine is most excellent! Great camera work!
I love seeing you make things on the machine! Reminds me of my childhood. My mom made sweaters on machine for a sweater company back in the 80s. I have a vintage Passap machine and ribber and have it set up but I haven't put in the time to figure out all the stuff. I also have a portable brother machine that just does stockinette. I have been wanting to 3d print and rig the carriage to knit by computer instead of the intense core workout! The cables look so fun and elegant! I love how yarn works. Excellent progress on the capsule wardrobe. You look amazing!
I can't lie, the stripes are my favourite part of this project! and they really complement the lovely simplicity of the few cables you've done :D I'm so tempted to make my next project include stripes made that way (should probs get the winter gift knitting done first though)
2:06 yes please! That would be an extremely helpful video especially for vintage patterns
The vest looks great! Congratulations on figuring out how to do the cabling and making it work so well! I'll second what others are saying as well -- and what I said about the skirt -- the stripes add depth and texture to both pieces, and in regards to the vest, they do so in a way that's still subtle enough to not detract from the cables but to enhance them in my view. I definitely understand the frustration of not planning for something and not quite realising your vision, but in this case, I think this might be one of those "happy little accidents" Bob Ross always talked about. Honestly, I especially love it with the vest because it comes off to such great effect and compliments the cables so nicely. I would never imagine in just seeing it that you hadn't intended to create it that way because it's such a uniquely lovely effect!
It turned out BEAUTIFULLY!1 The striping is fantastic! I prefer it with the striping.
Again, just like the skirt, the striping looks fab...and totally deliberate 👍 that colour with a white shirt underneath looks so smart too 😊a success I'd say 👍
I actually love the stripes. And you did a beautiful job overall. Looking forward to seeing all four pieces completed.
I think your dog is helping you point things out and yes that was really cute
I am really enjoying this series having just started working with a vintage silver reed machine I was gifted. I would love to see a video about how you do your pattern conversion! The capsule wardrobe is turning out beautifully! 🧶 Cher
the striping just looks like that's the way the yarn was dyed and how it worked up! both the skirt and vest are lovely pieces :))
The slow motion shots are so mesmerising! This is a brilliant video in every way. Tgank you for sharing 🫖
Oh I love this! I can’t wait to see how all of these pieces come together into a wardrobe. Also I could watch your slow motion knitting machine for so long. Those cables are so beautiful.
The stripes look like it's variegated yarn and it's so so beautiful
Your video came at the perfect time. Just what I needed. Being in a happy place. Wow that sounded creepy. Sorry, I enjoy your videos. Thank you for putting so much work into it
I think it looks fabulous. Strips and all. ❤
I'm so impressed! I think the striping makes it look more interesting, kind of like the variations in color in a long view of the ocean.
Again, love the stripes on the vest, such a cool feature !
I am so excited am about DFW vest. This is a wonderful video with the slo-mo and the time lapse.
you have such unique videos and creative projects, always love to see what you're working on especially when you're making things that are meant to go together!
I really like this. It's really lovely. All this makes me think that I would love to give this a try too! I don't have time for all my sewing, knitting, and other crafts. I cannot start something new! I will repeat that statement over and over again!!
I love your videos! The machine slow-mo was deeply satisfying, and the reveal was spectacular. The random striping looks great. What I like about your channel is that you don’t gloss over mistakes. It’s so relatable and real. I’m a fan for all your creative ventures.
P.s. the chocolate chip cookie was a baking mistake. A most favorite mistake. 🍪
Good job ! I love the result, the yarn looks hand dyed with those color changes so I think it gives it a great look. Thanks for sharing the names of the other channels to learn how to use a knitting machine. I'm gonna dive into it !
Love the slow motion sliding needles ❤❤❤
I’m so impressed! It definitely makes me want to get to learning my flat bed knitting machine. Also, I really love the striping!
The vest looks great :) I think the color striping looks very deliberate, both on the vest and the skirt. I would love it if you made a video about converting your knitting patterns to machine knitting! Its what has me scared to use my machine much.
Check out knitfactoryimpl here on UA-cam, she has some great projects she's made, and she codes her patterns so you can do your swatch, put in your numbers and get a pattern!
@@jessicaneal8553 Yes I watch her too. I dont understand her coding system at all lol.
@showandtellmeg neither do I; I look at them more as a plug and play thing, 😆
@@jessicaneal8553 lol I dont even know how to plug. Did she do a "for dummies" breakdown of how to use her software ever? I couldnt find one and when she just runs through it at the beginning of her projects its like Greek to me
Nutella cracks me up.
Nutella is a little sweetheart. ❤
I promise I am enjoying the video 😆 - at 8:33 you mention having issues with end needles and *girl i feel your pain* I 100% have to pull the end needles out for certain projects. Electronic machines can do this for you automatically 🤤 honestly life-changing
It's your vest, so you don't have to love the striping, but I love the striping! It's random, yet it looks intentional, and it works with the cabling really well.
I'm a crocheter and have no plans to learn how to knit in the foreseeable future, but I love watching your videos! I find them relaxing and satisfying. I especially love seeing you use your knitting machine ♥
i love your channel. you always have something interesting to watch. Nicky , Liverpool , England xxxx
I have to agree with the other comments. I love the stripes! The vest is so cute!
This is stunning! I really do love the striping effect. Beautiful work. ❤
I love the cables. I would love to have a knitting machine.
Hi! You must have so much patience to do this! Always love your work! Hi Nutella xx Sending best wishes from Down Under 💞🌼🌺🌸💐🇦🇺😎
I have so much respect, admiration, and adoration for the content, you, this project and insane machine that you’ve learned to use, and pup.
It's really cute and i love the color. I think i like the v neck best though.
2:08 oh would LOVE a knitting spreadsheet video!!
It turned out so great 😃 the cable detail was such a good choice. The colour is also great on you 😊 I love this little series..😊
It is SO COOL seeing the teeth of the knitting machine with the ribber on move :D
I still really like the Striping on the vest? I think it looks much more interesting!
I understand why the stripes bother you, but they look really great. I've bought tonal yarns dyed to stripe in similar ways and that's what this looks like. It adds texture and color to the knit and personally, I think it looks better than it would without the stripes. But that's just me.
It looks the way tonal yarns are *supposed* to look, but they rarely turn out this nice!
this ensemble would look amazing with a cream/off white linen shirt and a cognac tweed (with the same green/turquoise specks) blazer/jacket
I really like how the vest turned out! 💜
The striping looks lovely! It looks natural and true to the yarn. Cannot wait for the next piece to be made and added to the collection 🎉
It looks great! The cables are really cute.
Just lovely!!!
Soooo cute!
The edge stitches skipping is the bane of many a machine knitter. I ended up buying small claw weights for the edges, and have even used big bull paper clips and big bread clips to stop the edges dropping. I use them on my circular machines too 😊
Wow. That is so cool to watch!
Loving this series!
i had no idea that the "stripes" weren't intentional. It looks great. Very subtle to me. Nice "texture" look.
For anyone wanting to learn knitting machines as a non knitter, my friend serviced and learned to knit on my knitting machine with no previous knitting or knitting machine experience. It took a few hours to get it up and running (I got it free from someone so it needed some tlc)
the only things I really helped with as a knitter was fixing dropped stitches, teaching him to seam, and casting off tension
The vest looks great love the stripes ❤
Gosh I just love the texture of the stripes!!! It feels so homemade and looks incredibly comfy.
I really really love the striping honestly 💚
So cute! Well done and thanks for sharing.
Very cute.
Your pieces are just beautiful!
That sweater vest turned out really pretty
So pretty
Great work !! The striping looks good , thank you for another great video !!
That looks amazing. The striping truly make it unique. ❤😊
I love the stripes, makes it more lively and it is a gorgeous vest, the cables was a brilliant idea
Stunning as always. I think the stripes look good. Very make do and mend.
That’s true! Very “use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without”! What thrifty 1940s woman wouldn’t be proud to unravel two old sweaters and make something this lovely of them?
Well done..lovely fit ❤
LOVE the striping. What a cute vest overall!
