- Evaluating medium height Leupold STD scope rings on the Howa 1500 Varminter.
I purchased the only set of gloss STD rings that were available at the local shop - fortunately, they appear to be the height that is needed for mounting the Leupold BR-36 on this rifle.
It appears that the cheek weld and eye relief will be acceptable. I'll proceed with mounting the bases and setting up the scope and rings.
I’m with you. I like the old school gloss Leupolds. Hate all the logos they are putting on everything now days.
They don’t have the classy simplicity that they once had. Thanks for the note! 🙂
Irwin quick clamps with the soft jaws removed are perfect for spinning these front rings. 'Course you can't do it with the scope in the ring.
Sometimes they twist in easier than others! Thanks for the note! 🙂
It seams most people want a rail. On a AR there fine. On my Rem 700 BDL it looks Goofy. I like the Leopold rings like you have. On all my bolt rifel's. You can trust them for holding very nice scopes. I use 2 brands. Leupold & Zeiss these have worked trobbel free for me for a long long time.
The Redfield and Burris setups from back in the day are equal as well. 🙂
@@WilliamCChapin you bet. Good stuff. Love the video. Thanks.
@@DaveDanger-v9g You’re welcome! Thanks for watching and thanks for the note. 🙂
Didn’t know Craftsman made scope mounting tools. I kept waiting on him to break out a two pound sledge hammer. Not very educational but it was entertaining as hell
I think you may have meant MAC Tools - the end wrenches are vintage CW Series from around 1977. My father had a tool truck business back then - I received tools as gifts when I was a kid! 🙂
My 223 Model 70 came with a Leupold 4-14 power scope already on it . I like it as I can see the holes on target with the right color of target .
This one is going to to be a range toy for the most part - plenty of glass is a good thing!
@cwlongshot Yep , I have a few with 2-7 on them .
@@WilliamCChapin I looked at mine and it has low mount Weaver rings with Leupold scope . It almost touches the barrel .
Starting to look very nice, I'm sure it will be a real tack driver.
We'll see how it goes, Travis! I guess I better get some ammo around for it!
I like it, Curtis. But I’m a dinosaur!
Georgiasaurus?
@@WilliamCChapin 😂 We can go with that.
@@jh5869 I have a feeling that you *may* hear the term again… 🤭
Looks like the mediums did the trick.
Yes, I think they will work out fine. They’re as low as I can go with this scope! Thanks for the note JCM45!
nice
Thanks King Pin!
Did your turret need centreing??
I mechanically centered the scope before aligning the rear base. The 36X is notorious for being laggy and not tracking the best, and this one had been sitting around for awhile. It did have some quirky adjustment behavior on the first range trip! Thanks for the note. 👍
Your not supposed to use metal wrench on scope rings.
I'm comfortable using a metallic tool that fits well. Thanks for the note.
This is how not to mount a scope Wow
Thanks for watching, @Jeff Pallister - I appreciate the feedback. 🙂
I thought it was pretty good.
