I loved Melanie...gave her a hand painted egg with a letter of devotion to her music and messages at the Troubador in Santa Monica. At the time I always felt her song when it comes right down to it...I'd rather be alone spoke to me. I adored her so...wanted to be her in that time of climax and flux. She was an inspiration and beacom of hope in our generation. Maybe too rare for our time with all that is confronting us now...but Melanie you still shine. And its music of yours that helps to emprace the passing years. Those who weren't around in our era of the 60's cannot fully understand how we did try to make the world a better place.
Beautifully written. Even though I was born in '63 I had an older half sister and half brother 10 and 11 years older than me. Not only was I influenced by all the great music on their 45's as they grew up the both of them would embrace the 'hippy' lifestyle. A safe and fascinating influence on a young child like me. Truly beautiful people with a beautiful outlook on life. Apart from the Stones and Jimi and the Who etc I always remember this song and Janice and even Steeleye Span having an impact on my DNA. I miss those times and to a certain degree I've always been different to my peers because of their more conservative upbringings. The adventures, the appreciation of nature and healthy food and music and general acceptance of all people was magical. Along with a healthy disrespect for the police, the government and straights/rednecks who potentially could do us harm. It's so hard to explain. And why music and musicians were so important to us. I could write alot more but thanks for your post. It brought back alot of memories and reasons why I sort of never really did fit in. Then again I can talk to anyone, anywhere, anytime about anything. Natural empathy where people and animals just seem to gravitate to my orbit or find me approachable. Authority figures not so much lol And now the word hippy can be spat out with as much vitriol as tree hugger or feral lol. Some things never change. When Liam Gallagher made his comeback I saw a concert on UA-cam of him playing live to a massive crowd. With a shaker in each hand and a ton of fark you attitude he addressed the crowd with ' any hippies out there?' He said it as a challenge and with love. All the crowd seemed to miss it bar one lol. Peace Monkeys ❤

Thanks Daria, I’d actually forgotten I’d made this so it was nice to listen to (and watch it) again; Melanie is excellent at interpreting Stones & Dylan songs
SV's you amaze me with your Melanie music collection, I've never heard this version of Wild Horses. You must have some connection with our girl to get all this unreleased material. Love it! If you ever put together a CD of Melanie songs for sale let me know, would love to have some new old music from her. Love that Lady so much.
Love the original version from my second favorite Melanie album Madrugada. This is a fine alternate version though. Don't know how you have all your material. But, keep posting.
Nice... I always liked this out take, it has the feel of a live show. And as much as I love the final version on Madrugada, I always felt it was just a little over-produced in places. And I always dived to turn down the volume on those final three chords. I can see why many prefer this recording, even though it's somewhat raw. And I seem to recall adding that bit of reverb towards the end when working on the sound file I had several years ago, so perhaps that has become the definitive version, like my edit of Shy As A Violet (on Soundcloud). I love the match with the footage here, very moving, had me wiping a tear from my eye at the end, 'cause I'm a big old softy.
Ian Walker you added the reverb? I never knew that, and I don’t recall where I got this version from. As I’ve got the remastered Madrugada I did consider using that version but I do find it a little overwrought towards the end, so I decided to go with the raw one. Hope you stopped crying now you big softie!
I did quite a bit of amateur improvement of audio quality on a lot of the "unofficial" stuff, back when the millennium was still new/young, and used to put it around to fans, in the days when I still had a dial-up connection! Nothing instant about it all in those days... I still have some of those "remastered" tracks saved, must have a look in case there may be anything you don't have. Having said all this, my attempts weren't always so good, as I listen back to them now, but they usually ended up sounding a bit better than they did on the copies I'd been sent. It all began with the Yahoo Melanie List (run by Mark Sumner of the MSAS) back in the late Nineties. That's where I first met (virtually) Dia and many of the crew like Jim Maguire and Siegfriend Schlosser (Sigi) who created and with me built a site of unreleased material called More Melanie Magic (still out there in the ether somewhere I think)...
Wow, there's so much I don't know, I'd be interested to hear anything you may have that I haven't got already of the stuff you've improved - well done my friend.
Hmm, the reverb was actually a bit overdone, I think. I remember at the time noticing the dullness of the guitars towards the end, something to do with the depleted, patchy source, obviously a cassette tape. So it sort of sounds better but the addition of the reverb is a bit too obvious. My resources were limited though, and I think it overcame the dullness of the tape at that point to some degree at least.
Pure genius! Rest in peace, magnificent Melanie! You were and still are the very best!
Rest Well my Lady ❤

I loved it, I thought it worked really well for the ending of my video where Folco & White Mane turn around to look at the camera as one.
