Sam!! Remember me? We've been watching sawmill videos because we bought a 1907(ish) R.R. Howell circular mill that we are restoring and...we came across your channel. I said "Hey! I know that guy!" Glad you are up to good work!
Of course I remember you. I've been to busy to put videos out though. I watch those old sawmill videos too. They look fun to run. I'll have more videos out eventually.
Don't make a habit of using wire nuts for DC solar connections, they melt. You will probably be fine with just a fan load but when you get into your bigger power circuits for your house use compression style connection such as a crimp or Polaris lugs. Awesome solar Kiln!!!
Cool project. A little over a year ago I bought five heavily timbered acres over the hill from you by Silverjack. I intend to cut my own timber and build a small timber frame as well. I just purchased my portable sawmill and log arch. My project is going to be a little more guerrilla style than yours and I'm going to chip away at it as I can, but it's a gorgeous piece of property. I live in Montrose. Would love to grab lunch with you sometime.
+sarah Packard I might be up for that. I won't be breaking ground until next spring though. Depending on the HOA I might be able to get the initial dirt work done before next winter. Otherwise I'm in the Dakotas working on materials and design.
+The Rocket Factory Great, just get in touch with me if you'd like. Hopefully I'll be setting up my saw and cutting up timbers around then. I'm going to have about a day per week to allot to it, so mine will be a slow steady project. My name is actually Greg. Sarah is my daughter, and she sort of took over my Google account. Hope to meet you next year. Sincerely, Greg
+sarah Packard A day a week will take a bit. I average 4-5 8"x8"x12' beams a day with my mill. I know the higher end mills can do a lot more board feet. That's with a day or two of cutting also. So that's cut trees one day, unload and mill a couple the next, then 4-5 beams the next. Rinse and repeat. I still have to do all my 8"x16" x20'+ stuff. I average 2-3 a day on those if I am really pushing.
The ends of your sheets look to be open... Are you going to seal them off some day or possibly even evacuate them and replace the air with rarefied argon?
Nice kiln build! I am getting ready to buy materials and build me one using the Virginia Tech plans and am wondering how those ecoworthy panels and radiator fans are working out?
+chriscroz I'm not sure yet. Once I have the Arduino logging data I'll know more. If it is already hitting 101 on a winter day probably pretty fast depending on the thickness.
Can't wait to see version 2! It seems like yours will be on the cutting edge of solar powered kilns. The glycol inter-cooler is an interesting concept. Do you have any sources that talk about that more in depth?
+Berkley Jones I am the source. I'm just taking the idea of old boiler systems and paring it with the solar vacuum tubes. The automotive parts are designed specifically for maximum heat transfer IE better than a boiler radiator. Once I start working on it I'll go into the details.
could you supply some more info how you will set up the main fans and the vent fans. such as what temperatures on and off and what humidity on and off.
Greetings Do you use the kiln for personal or commercial use? I was planning to build solar kilns here in mexico, I already have 3 sawmills and we process red Oak, but I want to multiply my earnings by kiln drying the wood myself... Any thoughts? I'd really appreacite any information.
like solar panel with fan. how protect wires from when move thing around? were park this thing? are leave out woods. move through out year try keep in sun?
+Cameron Bishop It's still a WIP. Once I have all the systems in place I'll work on tweaking it. I'm adding 1300 watts worth of solar so I can run a 70 pint dehumidifier. Combating all the humidity being generated is my main challenge right now.
I'm just getting in to milling. Building my saw mill now. Then will build a solar kiln. Thanks for the info. 👍
Nice build. Congratulations on your successes. It's great when a idea comes together.
Outstanding Job!!! I enjoy watching your videos. Your videos are very motivating. Thanks
Love it dude. Literally what im gonna build.

Wow you have been busy. Great job. Can't wait to see the glycol system.
+WC4DOOR It's going to be pretty cool. I have the 12v adjustable pump right next to my computer waiting.

Congrats, lot's of hard work. Nice to see it pay off. Good luck on your drying
+Canadian Woodworks We'll see how the current load is doing today. 3000+ board foot in there right now.

I like the mobility ")
Watched a few clips. You have some great skills man.

good stuff! there's got to be a way to use the excess heat from the process. heat the shop?
Nice kiln build! I am getting ready to buy materials and build me one using the Virginia Tech plans and am wondering how those ecoworthy panels and radiator fans are working out?
nice once your done drying wood you should rig to circulate that heat into your home :) unless you all ready do ! nice job
Very nice job. What would be the expected time to dry a batch of green wood, given average conditions?
+chriscroz I'm not sure yet. Once I have the Arduino logging data I'll know more. If it is already hitting 101 on a winter day probably pretty fast depending on the thickness.

Trailer lights are also important as well for road travel.
There's trailer lights on the kiln. I don't recall if that's mentioned.

+Cameron Bishop There will be lots of information in the future. Next kiln video should be in a few weeks.
How low moisture percentage in the wood can you reach with this system? Have you measured?
Greetings

Excellent job. I'm gonna send 700 board feet of maple right over!! :)
+Dave Stone As long as I get to keep it.
You went to all that trouble to make a solar face so why did you cover it with solar panels and reduce solar intake efficiency?
how's the solar kiln operating with all the added extra control?
+Cameron Bishop It's still a WIP. Once I have all the systems in place I'll work on tweaking it. I'm adding 1300 watts worth of solar so I can run a 70 pint dehumidifier. Combating all the humidity being generated is my main challenge right now.
Looks great but you need to get the battery and the controls out of the heat. It will destroy them in no time. My solar kiln will reach 180 deg.
How long - wide is this kiln?
8'x25'
Thanks. Seems most are 15. What size lumber for ridge/ baffle did you use? Looks like you redesigned that part? Wanting to build a 20-22 long one.
@@dianearnold5381 the ridge i think I used 2 2"x8"x24' nail laminated so I could have the big doors.
This is incredible!
Super cool!
Where about are you? I'm pretty far north
Excellent!
Good idea
cool
You can have your heat pump inside it
what isthe purpose of this?
No one should be congratulated on wasting a fine trailer.
