She was her own musical invasion. She could sing their songs, they could never sing like her. Not even close. Our very own queen of soul! Amazing!
There's nothing more captivating and influential than watching an artist master their craft.
The audience really had them a great time dancing. They enjoyed Aretha and the Sweet Hearts of Soul. They had a good time. Look at them..🎤🎼🎶🎵👠👠🎹👑
She went OFF!!!!
maybe it is my favorite version of this song. i just like the way the cameraman went with the flow.
Her highness,the Queen,ms.Aretha Franklin.
Intoxicating!
This I find again!
The joy in this scene, and the music, is palpable. Music brings out the best in everyone! We still need this song now and always. Thanks for the clip! I was born (once upon a time) in Amsterdam. So I especially like this one. ~mb
RESPECT BABY YOU GOT IT !!!
“A song that a girl took away from me. She’s a friend of mine and this girl, she just took this song, but we’re still gonna do it anyway.” - Otis Redding at the Monterey Pop Festival before singing “Respect.”
I love her very much
Black, White and otherwise loving The QUEEN!
Nog elke dag trots dat ik Ge en Erik Bakker mocht kennen die met hun geweldige geluid dit Aretha Franklin concert legendarisch maakte. De sound track is direct uit de zaal opgenomen met 1 microfoon en een Nagra portable recorder
Looks like Sonny Bono in the first row w/ sunglasses. What an amazing voice
Great!!!
That was really cool!! It was beautiful as well. Thank you!!
Wow, this is amazing, I've never heard of this concert before. It's weird because a lot of times you see performances from that era and the audiences are really flat so I don't know why this one was so different?
Actually, people started dancing and singing along at concerts only in the 70s? So this concert was really lively. the director of the Concertgebouw wanted them to sit down and shut up, he comes onto the stage numerous times to say this, it’s so funny
@@iemand2612 if you watch tv shows and concerts from the 70s, 80s very often the audience are either dead or confused as to how to behave. Whereas everyone's a performer these days.
Leuk man!😂
A poderosa Aretha Franklin.
This song sounds better in this tempo.
최고의 respect....우와
Wanna' dance with the backing singers forever.
Cissy Houston was apart of Sweet Inspirations. Whitney Houston was the Aretha Franklin of generation X, crazy we can witness that spirit at this historic comcert, where Cissy Houston largely contributed to both women ~
❤️
Them Amsterdamians never heard nothing like that!
We had lots of soul and blues artists performing here in those days. American black music has been hot here since l remember, (l grew up in the early sixties.) But Aretha was a highlight for sure. Amsterdam went wild, as shown here. Hundreds of fans were waiting in front of her hotel to see Lady Soul..

👌
Aretha Franklin in the 1960's may have been the most powerful person in the universe other than God, lol. Woman had something on the inside of her, especially during this time when it was at its peak. I feel like God gave it to her because she was able to carry such a strength with humility that was just so beautifully effective for her. She did what she was created to do I believe.
I know the concert title said the background girls were called The Sweet Inspirations (of which Cissy Huston was a member and clearly NOT on this program). The girls on this concern, however, look to me to be The Sweethearts of Soul which consisted of Charissa Jones, Carolyn Franklin (Aretha's sister) and Wyline Ivey. It's sad that The Sweet Inspirations and The Sweethearts of Soul barley merited a mention in David Ritz book Respect (although Cissy Huston was mentioned numerous times). Any corrections you may have on my post please offer up....it was hard enough to dig up what I did and if any of you have additional info, that would be great for everyone. Thanks!
The Sweet Inspirations were supposed to come with her but they were cancelled for whatever reason. Aretha introduced her sister Carolyn and the other Girls as "the Moniques" on her other european dates from this 1968 tour. (The Sweethearts of Soul name came later.) Yes you're right, the Sweet Inspirations and Sweethearts of Soul should have been given more credit in David Ritz' biography! I missed that as well. Check out her Sweden concert from this tour.
@@merkjanoosterhoff1590 Thanks so much for the great info! I love this period in her career.
@@billythomas4804 thanks for your reaction, Billy. Nice to hear from you. I kinda grew up on Aretha, been hooked on her since '67 ,when l was 13 years old.
Especialy her atlantic period until '74. Her later albums l found less and did'nt like her too much with Arista, although live she always was great! Unique voice and absolutely my favoriete singer.
@@billythomas4804 Aretha also performed in Germany for a very dull public but she's great there as well. The poster in the background had Nina Simone's portret claimed as being Aretha. Look for the Koln Germany concert from '68!(rockpalast)
Church!
James Brown had nothing on Aretha at this time
They were totally different performers, so it's hard to compare. James Brown was a big name before Aretha but by the late 60's she rivaled him, both dominated the black charts. During that time James Brown had already founded the Funk genre while Aretha was more popular music, but both were the pinnacle of Soul back then and forever after.
You are correct. Aretha stood above all of them and they knew. Even James Brown as big as he was when he was in her presence he had to give her her just do. James was big but Aretha was much bigger. The Queen of Soul!!
Who edited this? And what was he thinking? It RUINS the whole number. Two thumbs down.
I don't know if that was Keith moon of 'The Who ' at the end seated with 4 other whites, sincerely jamming .goofing off....or mocking the rhythm &blues like idioms.beccause he was known to be over the top,as he was with Hendrix when he initially met.he could be a dck at times.
He is totally into it, and it shows. No mockery here. He thoroughly enjoyed the show!
