If your fabric is directional you need to cut the pattern in half and add 1/2 " and flip the side that would be upside down and both sides will be right side up.
Love finding another male sewer out here. Going to make that template tomorrow! I love templates!! Glad I found ya, love the bag going to make one for sis. Thanks for sharing, subscribed!
Nice to meet you! I used to call my self a “seamster” but that was clunky, and then sewist, but autocorrect changes that to a less friendly title, so now I don’t know what to call us! Lol
Love this!! So many uses for it, too! Also great gifts and personalize them with initals on the side! Thanks for showing us how to make this!! Love your channel !!
Thank you so much Tim, I really really enjoyed watching you create this super amazing toiletry pouch. I really really love ❤❤❤❤ it. And I love ❤❤ the shape. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for such a great tutorial Timothy, and for sharing your mistakes too. They are always a good learning tool. The pouch is a good size and shape, which should suit many purposes.❤🎉
I used to edit out my mistakes and then realized other people might make the same. If they see someone with a UA-cam channel make mistakes, they’re more likely to forgive themselves for their own mistakes. I’m glad you noticed!!
I want to make one of these for my nephew as a travel bag for toiletries. I believe it would be the perfect size. Thank you for all your tutorials, I really do enjoy them!
Really enjoyed this project Tim, I just sewed a few of these for Christmas gifts and the were a big hit, especially with my teenage nephews! I hope you're having a great day everyone!
@@timothytotten9409 I didn't quilt, but I used decorative canvas from Joanns on all of them. I used 3 layers, one canvas, one of a nylon to waterproof and then a fashion fabric lining as I didn't like the look of the nylon inside. It made for a sturdy bag that held its shape super well after a quick iron without me needing to use any interfacing.
@@katiesanders238Try using the Iron On Vinyl sold at Joann’s in the notions asile. It’s clear, comes in a roll & you iron it to your lining fabric. It makes the pouch wipeable/water proof which eliminates the extra layer you’re using to waterproof it. Game changer.
Just finished mine. It took me about an hour start to finish. I had been looking for a good pattern for awhile but thankfully I found this great video. I appreciated the measurements provided and the detailed steps!! And the binding looks so smart on the inside.
nice job tim i started making one and when i complete it i'll photo it and come back with my project. you mentioned about sewing the pieces together next one i'm going to do that and want to let you because i didn't do that when i boxed the corners all the material didn't get clipped and sewed i used nylon fabric also for inside and believe it slipped from the canvas material i used. the canvas didn't get sewed with the other layers . i need to take apart and somehow baste them together and correct my problem thanks so much this is a cool project barbara
Well, here's an example of good timing. Yesterday I was at a comic book convention, and a booth there was selling fandom-themed toiletry bags, wallets, etc. I was sorely tempted to buy one, and in the end decided against it (couldn't justify buying something that I could make, even though the one they were selling is more attractive & professional-looking than the pattern I use). Today, in the "for you" section of your channel, was this tutorial showing me how to make the exact bag style I was admiring yesterday. And it's made out of fat quarters! I have lots of those (and 15 more expected in the mail tomorrow, when my Sewers Club subscription box is estimated to arrive). Now I just have to empty a cereal box so I can make the template...but first I'm going to check out your "even easier dopp kit" video. Thanks so much for posting! You've saved me a drive to the convention center and - well, I didn't look at the price but I'm guessing they wanted between $30 and $50 for it, based on similar booths I've seen at other conventions.
@@timothytotten9409 And I did! My fat quarters were a little undersized due to having shrunk in the prewash, so the binding was made with the outer fabric for the ends & the lining fabric for the corners. I'm already thinking about what fabrics to use for the next one 🙂
Hi Tim! I bought a coil separating zipper for my bag and it made the installation of the zipper 100% easier!! It was actually a "happy accident"! If anyone has passed this tutorial up because the zipper sounded too complicated, the purchase of the separating coils zip might be a reason to reconsider!! Happy sewing!
I love that little bag. I'm thinking the lining can be Polyurethane Laminate (PUL) and then the bag can be used as a lunch bag with more insulation, possibly? Or a Wet Bag for swim class or beach season? Oh, what about in a diaper bag for an infant's many clothing and diaper/washcloth changes? Oh the possibilities!
Thank you for your video. I need help creating a bag but for my son to use as a small board games carrier. I’ve watched a lot of videos and when I think I found or figured how to do it I don’t succeed. My bag is tall and wide and narrow. So app 14” high. 13” deep and 3” wide. Or close to that. So the zip goes on top and down both sides and I need to put a little strap that goes across the zip on the side. Maybe 3 1/2”. And a zipper pull on the other side. I wish I could show out a picture but not sure how or where. I would love to line the bag with no seams exposed. But not sewn as 1 piece. Thank you
This is a very cute bag and very functional for different uses. But a tiny word of warning. Don't quilt it through all the layers as it will no longer be waterproof. Ask me how I know!! 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Timothy I have just spent half an hour doing this template which is now on its way to cardboard heaven. I will try again with a whole sheet of A3. What went wrong I hear you shout. @@timothytotten9409 LOL@ duffel bag. I think I need one approx. 16” x 10” or 12” and 6” depth, I guess I need to design my own. I’ve looked at bag maker websites but the bags are way too big or way too small. I also need a bunch of pockets.
Hi Tim! I’m a first time viewer, found you from UA-cam. This looks like a bag I might could do lol. Do you have a template for this pattern? I’m not a beginner but I’m not very good at sewing, so I need all the help I can get lol. Thanks for a great tutorial!
I have another idea instead of using binding or zigzag to finish the seams especially the corners, it will be a lot easier and quicker and better if we make french seams, sew the seams on the right side, turn inside out and sew the seam allowance trimmed down into a french seam, you know what I mean. Automatically finished without going crazy. I want to try that, you might want to try it too and make a video, what do you think?
I cut the pull tabs at 4" by 2.25". It is the size of the fabric that is taken out of the four cut outs on the pattern. I ended up using only about 3" of each tab after folding them. The handle is 4" x 7". Fold in on each long side and then in half to make a 1" wide by 7" handle.
I made this today with your measurements and it is the perfect size for my son. But it took me all day, not 30 minutes LOL I always make a lot of mistakes and I can't see good either just had my cataracts removed 2 days ago. I had purchased the stabilizer but I can't find it so I used felt
It’s fabric we buy from an outdoor fabric manufacturer on 100 yard rolls. However, you can buy pack cloth at many big fabric stores. You can substitute with duck cloth or some other treated cloth. There are some nice waxed cloths that would work well.
LOL you take about an hour maybe less, it took me all day yesterday to make only one 🤣, but I must say I screwed up a lot so I had to unstitch and restitch several times, I wish you put up a printable template because I live in europe and we use cm, not everyone lives in the US
It’s hard to see the template in the video. The overall size is 14” x 18”. On the 18” sides, the end tabs are 2.5” wide. Then it drops down 2.25” for a 4” wide opening. The middle tab is 5” wide. Basically, measure over 2.5” from each corner on the 18” sides and cut out a 2.25” tall by 4” wide rectangle.
Love how you did the zipper. I use mine as a carrying caddy for my sewing necessities when I go to a sew in.
I made the template before I even finished the vid. I am going to make my daughter one tonight.😊
