  • Kinesio Taping has many potentially therapeutic benefits when used along with other therapies. This video shows a clinical application of kinesio taping to the hand following a stroke. Kinesio taping can be used to assist a motion and provide sensory input. It also is used to minimize edema by reducing pressure and lifting the skin, allowing fluid to move towards the lymphatic system.

    Having that table up high is beneficial for having that hand above the heart for edema control, but I would rather use elevation at the end of the session, not during the session; the patient is observed to be leaning over to the left to compensate for a weak shoulder to use that hand functionally. I would lower the table and my patient's hand and elbow in neutral and work on functional hand tasks that don't involve substitution or compensatory movements at the shoulder to avoid a strain; it will also be a more "normal" pattern vs a compensatory pattern. I try to teach my patients normalized movements as soon as possible after a stroke. Great video. I've learned quite a few things from Helen Hayes therapy videos (subscriber here).

    • @HelenHayesHospital
      @HelenHayesHospital  Рік тому

      Kineseotaping in upwards position helps to pull skin up and away from underlying tissue to facilitate reducing edema from the area. Also, in this video, the taping was applied to also facilitate finger extension.

      Hey, hope you get well soon. Try straightening exercises using your other hand to help your affected hand fingers, just slightly straighten up your fingers with the help of your right hand, do this exercise and many other exercises a lot and don't lose hope, because you'll see the miracle of the hope and practice soon.

    • @TheOriginalMarimoChan
      @TheOriginalMarimoChan 2 роки тому +3

      Therapy should never hurt unless your fingers are contracted and they need to be straightened out to clean the inside of the hand. Try an Occupational Therapist who knows how to treat neurological cases as they are more geared toward hand use and functional use instead of just doing movements.
