  • Papyrus (stylized as PAPYRUS) is a brand name originated by a former American stationery and greeting card retailer that at one time operated over 450 stores throughout the United States and Canada.[1][2][3] It was headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, and was the flagship brand of the Schurman Retail Group.[4] The company sold a variety of products, including greeting cards, stationery, gift wrap, specialty gifts, jewelry, customized invitations, and other paper products.[5][6][7] It was one of the largest greeting card retailers in the United States.[8][9] The Papyrus products rights are owned by American Greetings.[10]

I did not know that they had closed...but since the pandemic, I haven't been to a lot of the malls that housed them to see what's left of retailing. They were always in the better malls, and had some great stuff. Some of the hand made cards were always worth the price of a $5 (and more) card (back in the early 2000's) for those special persons or occasions. Boxed Christmas cards were also something I got from them a few times.

i guess it's not too surprising that a stationery store would go out of business considering that hardly anybody even uses stationery anymore. My aunt used to work at a stationary store downtown and i always thought that they sold the weirdest things. I remember they had a lot of pens and staplers and whiteout and carbon paper and notebooks and erasers and stuff like that. All stuff that you could get at a drug store.

Stationary stores are pretty expensive considering you can buy cards at Dollar Tree for $0.50 ea.

@@EricCProductions76 i never checked the price on cards at Dollar Tree but last time I was there everything went up to $1.25!!! It's not a dollar anymore, but anything there would still be a bargain at twice the price. That's where I buy all my stuff that I hate spending money on but that you always need. Like household crap that you gotta have all the time.
