We call this pazhaya soru in Tamil Nadu. Literally....old rice! We usually have it with crushed sambhar onions, green chilli, salt and a good ladleful of buttermilk! 😋😋 it is wonderful to see how much all indian food has in common despite being so diverse
There are so many things common between the South (especially Kerala and Tamil Nadu) and Bengal. This is one of them. Their new year, their love for rice as well. And most importantly, the genetics. They have Dravidian-Mongoloid genes as well.
Bro.. culturally north, south, east n West is always same since ancient times. We were only aesthetically and linguistically different. Only after pre-modern times and lives under foreign cultural rule,.. we changed a lot. Forget, north-south.. now we r even culturally diff from our ancestors

Growing up as a Bengali living outside Bengal, l had no clue to what Panta Bhaat actually looks like... During family gatherings or gossips on the dinner table, Panta Bhaat was a subject of mockery. I was told that Panta Bhaat was eaten by extremely poor people.. Thank you Bongeats for telling the truth... #PantaBhaatLivesMatter
This is too much. I relished it during summer lunches as that is the correct time to consume it. I have also lived out of bengal. Was horrified to find some in laws putting it down as bhikirir khabar. How pathetic and ignorant. Bhikiririra jemni machh bhaja afford korte paare..? I hate ignorant people. Do a bit of research its excellent for tummy and health.
Same. I grew up in Chittagong, since I was a child I have always heard that panta bhaat is always eaten by the poor, it was always used as a way of insulting. I think it’s the same for a lot of people because we just grew up hearing about it as an insult, and not a lot of people bothers to do some research about it, so we just go along with it and some even passes it onto their children, teaching them the same thing they learned about it. Don’t know why or when it became a thing for insult, pity that it did when it actually has quite a bit of history

We receive several appreciative comments every day, which we are deeply grateful for obviously, but it is particularly rewarding to come across someone who understands the essence of what we're doing here. Our aim from the beginning was to document and give people the tools to replicate all kinds of Calcutta's cuisines, however humble or regal (yes, we love malaikari too!). I had the good fortune of staying in orissa for a good 3 years with oriya's from all over the state and bengali's too. Boy am I glad..... as I was introduced yo the art of cooking great food. What is important is me being from madhya prdesh we have always had foods that are basically heat producing in the body but in orissa and bengal where temperatures soar to differnt levels of hotness, the cuisine is completely based on foods that are either heat neutral or have a cooling effect on the body. Like pakhal, dahi baingana, and a lot of sweets that r primarily milk based. So much love to oriya and bengali cuisine. We need these kind of foods in mp too now that the temperatures in summers are breaking all previous records.

I follow all your recipes and love all of them but this one literally reminded me of my childhood and the summer meals. Our family originally was from chittagong and we used to have another addition to our panta bhat which was chopped onions with lonka pora, green chillies and mustard oil which is my favourite combination with this delicacy. Your videos are seriously so good... great job!!

Hello, hello. হ্যাঁ , পয়লা বৈশাখে পান্তা-ইলিশের একটা চল তো আছে বাংলাদেশে। চাপা শুটকিটাও খেয়েছি (আমার ঠাকুমা বানান, উনি ঢাকা থেকেই)। তবে বাসি ভাজা গরুর মাংসটা কোনোদিন খাইনি। কোনো রেসিপি জানা আছে কি? Comment-করবার জন্য অনেক ধন্যবাদ।
বাসি ভাজা গরুর মাংস is very easy to cook.use some the left over beef curry(with out potato) and keep it room temperature for 12 hours then use a fry pen keep fry the beef slowly in low flame untill the meet separate and breaks into fiber.do not make too crispy.it better use beef with fats.you can use the meet for moglai or somucha just like keema.and one more thing do you guys like kanji vaat (কাঞ্জি ভাত).

Panta bhaater jnno preferably kom daamer chaal er bhat kora better. Amar desher baari Medinipur e. Okhane ekta variety r chaal chas kora hoe jeta ektu reddish in colour r daam onek kom. Kolkatae lok temn ei chal khae na. Tobe oi chaaler panta with peyaj, lonka, lobon r posto-alu bhaja is soooooo tasty. But aagei warning diye di ei chaaler panta khelei bisaal ghum paye!!!
In Bangladesh we eat panta bhaat with left over torkari and many kinds of vorta like aloo, begun, shim, mushoor daal, kalojeera, shutki and pora morich ar peyaz shathe mustered oil er vorta and Ilish vaji for 1st boishak. Peyaz, lobon and green chili is must have to enjoy the real taste of panta!😋😋😋😋
I have loved panta bhaat since childhood even though my family is not a bengali one. The one I was introduced to was simply - rice, - water, - red chilli powder, - jeera powder, - black salt, - salt and - sliced onion. I still love it.
I am a Bengali and I love panta vaat specially in summer. It's also helpful to keep our body cool during the hot weather in summer. In Bangladesh this food is widely celebrated in special festivals. I prefer panta Vaat with panch rokom vaja-vuji like alu, potol, begun, vendi, kumro.. Thank you.
we used to eat very simply.. V used to add jus shorso tel and salt wit fryd red chili.. Aur jetha used to make dis...mone pore gelo.. I will make it again.. Tanxxx

Ekdom! Gorom bhaat, ghee, dal, alu bhaja/bhorta also sound equally enticing :-)
You can add gorom bhate jol and have with any of the above. I do the hot rice thing as I can't eat cold rice!

Hello, hello. হ্যাঁ , পয়লা বৈশাখে পান্তা-ইলিশের একটা চল তো আছে বাংলাদেশে। চাপা শুটকিটাও খেয়েছি (আমার ঠাকুমা বানান, উনি ঢাকা থেকেই)। তবে বাসি ভাজা গরুর মাংসটা কোনোদিন খাইনি। কোনো রেসিপি জানা আছে কি? Comment-করবার জন্য অনেক ধন্যবাদ।
বাসি ভাজা গরুর মাংস is very easy to cook.use some the left over beef curry(with out potato) and keep it room temperature for 12 hours then use a fry pen keep fry the beef slowly in low flame untill the meet separate and breaks into fiber.do not make too crispy.it better use beef with fats.you can use the meet for moglai or somucha just like keema.and one more thing do you guys like kanji vaat (কাঞ্জি ভাত).

I am a Bengali and I love panta vaat specially in summer. It's also helpful to keep our body cool during the hot weather in summer. In Bangladesh this food is widely celebrated in special festivals. I prefer panta Vaat with panch rokom vaja-vuji like alu, potol, begun, vendi, kumro.. Thank you.
