I just love your face! I feel like we haven't talked in forever. I definitely need to clean my leaves but you know I'm the worst about that.... love love love you friend!
I would love to see what you think of the plant community! I've slowed down on buying as well, mostly because I'm happy with what I have. I will still buy but only what appeals to me that I will have faith in living in my conditions. No more buy first figure out later. Purchase with a purpose!
Love this sentiment. I’ve decided to only grow plants that can survive in my environment without extra humidity or light. I buy specific plants for specific spots. It’s worked out great. It keeps me from overspending and minimizes dead, sickly or sad looking plants.
I have been living with plants for over 40 years and I will never be over it. I have had times were I buy and times where I just am content with what I have. I continue to learn and enjoy watching the miracle of growth. It's just what I do and I enjoy it.
I've also slowed down, part of it is having spent a decent amount on a plant in 2020 and watching it cost less than half in 2021, i don't want that to happen for the few plants I have left on my wish list
I was just looking on eBay at some plants and was taken aback by the lower prices. I thought is this a scam? I have heard prices had gone down. Geez, I guess they have. I think it's good the prices have gone down. Saying this I am starting my own little selling plants shop. Living where I do on an island we don't have access to all those plants. I get a lot of my plants online. So I thought why not grow some and sell some. Watching lots of plant videos on UA-cam ( thank you and all the other plant creators out there) I have heard you all question where you are at as far as your buying, selling, and even doing your channels. I think that is so healthy and necessary. Not only are the plants growing but so are you all. Happy New Year and thank you for every single video you post.
I've slowed down on plant purchases too. They all have to fit esthetically into a confined space so I'm focusing on only buying plants that I know I'll truly love. I used to buy those and anything I thought was cute when I went to big box stores or out plant shopping. I really need to step up my fertilizer game! Stay awesome!
Good point! When it's all said & done, there's only so much room 4 our plants & if we really want 2, & want others 2, enjoy their individual beauty, right?! 💞
I look - but quite frankly the crazy plant prices slowed my purchasing way down in 2020 and early 2021. And that’s okay - it has caused me to work on taking better care of the plants I do have. So satisfying watching the new leaves unfurl. And in turn has resulted in me walking away from plants I would have bought in 2019. I would rather have several big beautiful plants than a wall full of meh plants. Ya know?
I can relate. I'm also focusing on curating my collection over winter. I prefer a minimal look and having a bunch of little plants is too busy aesthetically. Come spring I should know exactly what I want.
I’ve been in the, growing plants huge stage, for about a year now. It’s fun. I prop and chop, making each pot full and grow those babies HUGE. My Brazil Philodendron is on a 6 foot moss pole and is putting out hand sized leaves...it’s pretty incredible. Not buying and instead growing plants out, maturing them, is very satisfying. I suggest sticking a cedar plank right into the pot, instead of a moss pole, it seems to mature plants faster.
Loved the video. I am at the point where I want my plants to grow big and beautiful because I bought many of my plants as cuttings to save some money and I just want the to grow out to be the plants I dream of owning.
I for one like to decorate with my plants in different areas of my home. I can't get into the art of keeping them all lined up packed together on shelves. I don't feel like I can take care of them as I should. Of course, I don't have 100's of plants or collect all "rare" species that's not what I want for myself. Don't take this the wrong way because I love every single one of your plants, I learn so much watching you and just love your natural personality. Can't wait to see what changes you have in store for us. Happy New Year Nicki
I've been growing, selling, trading etc plants for a few decades now. Never fear, winter's here! Seriously, most people hunker down in the winter and sit on the collection they have until spring. I can guarantee it will pick up then. (I say this as I've ordered about 40 mints the last three weeks with plans on ordering a few more) houseplant prices also increase (after the late October/early November clearance sales) in the winter as supplies are aimed elsewhere like holiday cactus and pine trees take up prime real estate in nurseries. My point is this happens every year and it will pick up in the spring when new plants come in and you realize you have to replace x plant that died over the winter. Buyer beware this is also when plants will increase in price at box stores and suppliers so keep those plants alive or it will cost more to replace them.
I bought a crazy amount last year and tried a good majority of them (cheap and very expensive). Then got thrips. So between thrips and feeling overwhelmed i have purged and thrown a few away, and so I rarley buy nowadays. Now I only keep/buy what I can care for physically and does well in house. If drama queen out it goes!!
I've stopped buying and am also focusing on the plants I want to keep top notch. There are a few that struggle with that i'm not fighting anymore and thinning out a little. I realized that 100+ plants are going to continue to grow and hence future problems. By the way I haven't told you love your natural color hair again. Happy New Year!
I love your videos! I also love trailing plants (& Hoyas) and I've realized that there is a small selection of plants that I want that fall outside of that. So I've been slowly rehoming plants (or chucking the too far gone ones) to get my collection down to what I really want. I want a collection that I can keep for years.... like a grandma's plant collection of pothos and trailing plants lol
You are the first plant person I subscribe to, largery due to a lack of hoyas. Evereone loves hoyas, why? I don`t get it. It is like growing a pot, most hoyas are so small and unremarkable... In many housepanst tours (except yours, of course) I just see endless shelves full of pots. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I adore your plants and the way you talk about them.
I am not over plants but I am determining what plants bring me joy. Right now I love cactus's. I have killed so may calanthes and high humidity plants. So plants that are low maintenance are what I love. I would love a dragon scale alocasia, but IO realize these plants are not for me .
Same for me im Sweden. I think I got the plants on my list.. I want them to grow big, but I think I "villhöver" translate direct to "wantneed" more, but I don't know what yet 🙈
I bought myself a White Princess cutting I’m excited to get it tfs . Those who truly love plants will continue to do so ❤️ I’m not one who jumped into the plant hype , I’ve loved them all my life and will always!
I'm definitely going to need to know what you use for the plant light strip you put on the ceiling! I have one place in my kitchen (hanging pot rack), and another place over a door, and "some day" over a grandfather clock, where I will need something like this! I have a problem getting to a wall plug in these areas too that I can't find a solution for :( I love your videos! GFP forever!
and side note to your side note regarding moss poles with PVC base: if you use a cap at the bottom and insert a fabric that sucks up water you can produce your own self watering poles. And if you want to be more sustainable avoiding huge amounts of sphagnum moss, then try out a mattress topper ;-) My tipp for you for 2022. Hug :-*
I needed to hear this!! I have been feeling the same way! I am only focusing on the plants I have now! I recently up potted my whole collection and didn't propagate anything! Instead I made longer moss poles and used bigger pots 🤩 2022 is bringing in big plants 🪴🤩
I'm the same way with having big plants. I don't care for Hoya's either. Unless it's a big, full 6in pot. I've been plant purging. Or trying to! I've even gave away some more come ones cause no one wants to buy them. Mind you these common ones are big, full, long, lush plants! Silvery Ann, Lemon lime philodendron, Snow Queen pothos, Monstera Adansonii long leaf that no one wanted to buy but wanted when I said free hahaha
Lots of activity going to be happening at your house! Looking forward to seeing all the progress! Hope you had a great Christmas and everyone is healthy. Happy New Year 🥳
I bought myself 4 wish list plants for Christmas with $ from Christmas. I also haven't bought any plants in quite some time. That is because no plant places within an hour or two have what I would be Interested in. When you went through your plants you no longer enjoyed, I was about done with the same deal. Getting to know my plants better and taking better care of is what I have been doing. I had 2 jobs, my plants suffered. I quit one of them, kept my Floral Merchandiser job and can now focus better on individual needs.
I've been watching your videos for so long now, and I can really tell when you're passionate about the topic your talking about and this is one of them. It's going to be a fun year watching you achieve your planty goals. 😚🌲🌱
Definitely NOT over them but certainly frustrated. This would be waaaay too long if I were to go over everything but quickly put... Prices. Space. Decor freeze brain! And oh yeah did I say PRICES? Yes Yes Yes, they are indeed slowly startring to come down but at least by me, it seems that EVERYTHING is VERY expensive. And if I am 100% honest, space is more of an issue than I like to admit. My house is small and I suck at decorating. But If I had the space I would still be going strong. Well maybe. The prices of everything else in the world is crazy high so my budget doesn't allow my usual behavior. I think thats my 2 biggest issues. Thanks for this. I adore you. Be well and safe. Merry holidays! huh?? LOL ok ttfn
I think the plant newbies that jumped on the hype train early on in the pandemic, are now realizing that this hobby requires consistency in maintenance. The instant gratification they sought initially has now dissipated because the reality of caring for them and providing their ideal growing conditions are more of a challenge than they realized. These “hype train newbies” are failing, plain and simple. The plant purchasing has indeed slowed down, because they’ve lost their confidence now. They finally are coming to realize this hobby requires some self discipline, in order to be a truly successful plant parent….something they never considered. A hobby that is definitely not for the simple minded individuals. I see this all as a bonus! Eventually plant prices will begin to normalize, and we’ll finally stop seeing the constant pleas for help online! They will simply move onto some other less challenging “hype train” trend in obtaining things for the attention they are after. Yes!, a silver lining here!!!
I just love your face! I feel like we haven't talked in forever. I definitely need to clean my leaves but you know I'm the worst about that.... love love love you friend!

I’ve definitely stopped buying. I went crazy and ended up not being able to dedicate time to them. I always love hearing your opinions! Tell it girl!

Thats whats going on with me i havent seen you for a while love love your channel happy to see you again
Definitely seen downturn, still buying but with purpose now. Hope we can organize another girlie day soon 💚💚

Im right with you , i love big plants!😍
I definitely need a Florida ghost and anthurium luxurians/ radicans before I pause my buying. It's space not burn out though .

Agreed, I’ve slowed down to a crawl on buying, just wanting to focus on what I have and growing them as big as I can!
