    This is the first time I've ever commented on UA-cam and I'm nearly 36 haha 😂 but I just had to say that you remind me so much of me and if I didn't live in New Zealand I would want to be friends with you 😂 everything you said I can relate to especially the $ spending on plants in such a short amount of time 😱 you made me laugh so much! ❤️ Thanks for a great video!

    Are you kidding us, of course we want to hear you ramble, we miss you so much. I agree I don't need 20, 30 little plants sitting around when I have 20 other big ones. Don't get me wrong I love seeing them grow up but I realized I rather buy a plant thats already a good size so I have more of chance to keep it alive. lol

    I'm definitely feeling more burnout than usual. I want to cut down as well, but my problem is I still don't know what to cut out. I'm also contemplating potting a bunch of 'similar' ones together in a long rectangular selfwatering planter. Maybe all my syngoniums together in a pot, put my pedatum/florida ghost/florida beauty/florida beauty in a pot, etc

    First, I did not know how much I needed you until I saw your video today! You do you girl, but just know we miss your beautiful face when it doesn’t pop up!!
    Second, I learned that just because I can identify it doesn’t mean I need it… or even want it. I got into a bad habit of going to the plant stores and buying the plants I could identify. I was excited my plant knowledge was growing… and then I ended up with a lot of small plants I discovered didn’t really bring me joy. I learned I don’t like peperomias, echevaria, cacti, dracena, and the list goes on… except in beautiful photography. I only bought them cause I could identify the different varieties. (Also, I don’t like hoyas).

      The amount of plants I’ve looked at and thought “what a stupid plant” after having it for 3 months and realizing I only bought it cause I recognized it is absurd. Many went to the porch graveyard this year.

    Great video. I use a mixture of water, alcohol and dawn dish soap in a spray bottle for mealybugs and also works great for scale. I remove the big ones with the q tip and then spray down the plant very well and let it sit before I clean it off.

    I use to have several plants 🪴 but in the spring of 2021 my youngest son joined the marines. Although I'm so proud of him, I wasn't ready for the empty nest or the stress of not having him home. I spiraled into sever depression. I unfortunately lost all but a very few very strong plants 🪴. They don't look so good but they are alive. But I'm more than content just to nurse these few plants back to health. Maybe someday I'll add to my collection again but for now I'm good. Oh and yes my depression is much better and my son is stationed in Japan for the next 3 years 🥴 But I'm ok. 🙂

    See I disagree with the philodendron not clinging. If they’re in the right environment- they will cling to anything. Planks are just easier because you don’t have to water them 24/7. Moss has to be wet to do what it needs to I feel like. Almost all my plants on wood, cling no issue.
    If you look at Caitlyn’s channel, her planks do phenomenal. Attaching is what you want to grow those larger leaves. I’ve had some that have poles that don’t attach, until I have it wood that it could sink into. But, of course we all have our own experiences with everything!
    I think both are a good option, whatever is best for you! ❤️ nice to see you back again!!! 🙌

      I don’t see a problem with having a lot of little plants, learning about/from them, see what you like, some will die, then when they are larger make choices based on the information you acquired. It seems an excellent process to me not something to avoid, prevent, think of negatively. I am a new plant person acquiring little young plants though so I’m biased lol

    • @judymckerrow6720
      @judymckerrow6720 2 роки тому

      @@M_SC I have a lot of little plants that won’t get humongous. I’m talking about the monsteras and the philodendron that get huge with huge leaves on them. In my home there is only so much room. I would love a lot of the big leafed plants but you have to think about what happens when they get huge. All of my plants start out as a cutting or a very small plant because I can’t afford a larger one. We heat with wood so the smaller plants dry out soooo fast, that’s my only problem with smaller plants. ☃️❄️💚🙃

    Just added my 29th Hoya last month and so happy that you admit you don’t like Hoyas! We can’t all “like” the same thing it’s not right to like something just because so and so on social media likes it. I love Hoyas, I don’t like alocasias or calathias. SO what? That’s my opinion. I enjoy your channel, I get great tips from you! I appreciate that you made the point about not watering those moss poles. I made some when it was popular to do so, and I never even realised I was supposed to water them, never did, then found out I was supposed to water them. Ooops. Oh well, won’t do it PIA. Will try some planks though because don’t want to ruin my walls because of a plant....😘

When your done with your zone however much or little time it takes at least you will be able to check on your plants once a week. Then move on to whatever else you have to do that day. One thing that has helped me with being overwhelmed with my plants, is to choose what stays vs. choosing what goes.
    Kind of a Marie Kondo, pull out from one area and put back my favorites for that area. Then on to the next area. I end up with a table of plants that either find new homes somewhere else or are offered to friends, etc. Choosing to make what I love look great on any given table/area was much easier than choosing what to let go. If I can't find it a home, then maybe I don't like it as much as I think. Or something else needs to go instead.

    To get into tight spots to treat mealies, try a cheap child's paintbrush dipped in alcohol to crevices. It might reach better.🤞

    • @PlantsPotsWhatNots
      @PlantsPotsWhatNots  2 роки тому

      With all the plants I have though, it would take days, even just to treat the ones that I know are infected. I need a week off just to deal with Mealies. . 😂😂

  • @jamluxx
    @jamluxx 2 роки тому +1

    Also for mealybugs!! I had them really bad on my variegated Hoya compacta, after like 10 regular treatments I decided to just put the alcohol (90% and not diluted) in a spray bottle and just spray it directly on the plant, let it sit for 30 seconds and then spray the plant with water. They were completely gone!!! And there was no damage from the alcohol on the plant at all. I would keep it away from a grow light till it dries. I now do that when I have thrips, spider mites, etc. and I’ve never had damage from not diluting it. It’s the fastest way to get rid of bugs and honestly I think the bug damage is scarier than the alcohol 😂😂 good luck! Mealies are monsters lol

    Thank you for confirming my suspicion on watering moss poles. I did an experiment and watched with shifty eyes that the pothos I didn't water the pole on grew better than the "maintained" one. Also team hoya-meh.

    • @PlantsPotsWhatNots
      @PlantsPotsWhatNots  2 роки тому

      Absolutely! I think it really depends on the plant, but I do have plants that are grabbing poles and putting their roots into poles that haven't been watered in years. When you think about it, the trees, rock, walls etc.. that they grow up in the wild aren't consistently wet, so it makes sense that plants in our home don't need that either.
