I grew up watching this movie. It has and always will be one of my absolute favorites. They just don't make them like this anymore. A true classic for sure!
Most movies from 60's back left you leaving the theatre feeling like you were transported to a very happy, magical place. Often it led viewers to travel to exotic locales, pursue certain career paths & go after that romance. Current movies are based on the same everyday hardships, obnoxious behaviour and strife that one tries to escape through movies.
Those were the days when love came from the heart, not from between the legs. The songs were written that enhanced that genuine feeling of caring and love between two people.
I was 16 in 1962 when I first saw this movie and heard this song and I fell absolutely in love with Suznne Pleshette. Now, when I see this and hear it again, I am so nostalgic for an era that has passed and saddened by the fact that both she and Troy Donahue are no longer with us. I also look at Emilio Pericoli singing this song and lament the fact that there are no romantic performers left.
What’s tge movie name pls This is tge first time i hear this song & ❤️ the actress very much too Was she a Italian actress too...? Many thanks P.S. but i seems heard the song’s melody when I was childhood becoz my beloved ❤️ classical movie & music too😂😂
@@soniakwok1776 Suzanne Pleshette was an American actress best known for the Bob Newhart show. She died of lung cancer, notice how everybody smoked in this scene. I agree, wonderful song.
Of all of the songs of love written and sung..this is the one and only. I would challenge any to prove me wrong. As one that was alive back then..I feel sad for you young people today if you fail to feel the power of romance!
Such a beautiful Italian love song "Al di la" I must say that the Italians had it going on. Suzanne Pleshette & Troy Donahue were married at one time. They surely looked fabulous together. Loved this movie and got it on DVD and the original CD recording.
This song was on the top 10 list in America & most people didn’t know one word of the song. Absolutely beautiful! I also loved the movie! I have watched it over & over again.
Just had to see this clip again. Noticed something for the first time.......I'm pretty sure she winks at Troy Donahue when the song begins and she has her back to the camera. What a lovely woman she was. Wish I could go back in time......I loved the movies then.
This say it all! I remember my first time in Rome: young, in love with my special man, and with Rome. In love with life! There is nothing like being young, in love and in Rome!
This song is so expressive it actually made it to No.6 on the Billboard chart here in the U.S. in 1962 even though most non-Italians couldn't understand a word of it.
@ftjax This is class, transcending culture, language, skin color, etc, etc. I do not know a word of italian, but I know how it makes me fell when I hear the song.
Just discovered this in 2024 as I am watching Turner classic movies channel in the film. Rome Adventure came on. This is the most beautiful Italian song I've ever heard! (I like Andrea Bocelli, I like Pavarotti sometimes, and I even love Aretha Franklin's version of Nessun Dorma but nothing tops this song. It is beautiful!) ❤
I can see myself dancing with someone I love to this song.. Romance is never better than this.. Doesn't take much guys... Just some good music, a special rose, and look into ones eyes.. what more can a girl ask for??
Same as RonnieJ1964. I was 23 in 1962. As far as I remember I think I was on holiday in San Remo with my male friends when we went to a cinema there. We were absolutely blown away by this romantics scene and that song! I fell in love with Suzanne too!
What a wonderful time the early 1960s was for beautiful movie soundtracks such as this. This truly was the end of a great era when songs had actual melodies, substance, heart and soul. You can almost hear a farewell in the music for the opening credits. Farewell, Max Steiner. Slow fade.
That song was such a radio hit. I remember going to the record shop and people were buying the 45rpms in twos and three’s. Yes, I got my copy... I’ll never forget that.
I was a teen when this came out. I have seen it on tv but have never had a recording of this amazing love song. Thanks for putting it on UTUBE . It's like having the most perfect Beligum chocolate melting on your tongue. Smooth & with a touch of pure JOY!
How accepting audiences were of the diversity of music played on A.M. radio! One could listen to this beautiful song during the summer of '62 and then the next hit played on the radio might be Freddie Cannon's "Palisades Park" or the Marvelettes singing "Playboy"! We had quite an ear for music!
I hope TCM should re-air this movie "Rome Adventure" I love the song Al Di la by Emilio Pericoli. This is the movie I'm not tired watching..good chemistry of handsome Troy Donahue and beautiful Suzzane Pleshette..
I saw this movie as an idealic eleven year old in 1964 with my dear Mum at the Newsreel Theatre in Adelaide. I feel sad that these beautiful people are no longer with us including my wonderful Mum. Mum is in heaven with Jesus and I hope that Troy Donahue and Susan Pleshette are there too. 💛💜💙💖
How true your words are.. believe me .. I felt that way when Max Steiner and Rogers and Hammerstein left this world.. How I miss hearing romantic songs like this..
Beautiful! Romantic Song! I have this Old School movie in my DVD collection. Just got through watching it! Such a romantic movie and loved the beautiful romantic music in it, especially "Al di la" I loved this song in Italian also would love to know the words in english! I would also love to see a remake of this 1962 classic!
beyond the most precious good, there you are beyond the most ambitious dream, there you are beyond the most beautiful things, there you are beyond the stars, there you are beyond, there you are for me, for me, just for me
The singer is without doubt Italy's Emilio Pericoli. Betty Curtis introduced this song, Al Di La, for the 1961 Eurovision Song Contest. It was featured in this movie, Rome Adventure (1962), and Connie Francis had the biggest hit with it in 1963.
Such a schmaltzy movie but I've always loved it. Looked for a long time for this song and turns out it did chart in the way way back. Singer is Emilio Pericoli
I saw the movie for the 1st time last night and immediately went to IMDB to find out who did the song. It's credited to Frankie Fanelli. Amazon has a CD with him singing Al Di La and other songs.
+Jennette James The singer in the film is Emilio Pericoli. You can find his recording easily nowadays. Not so easy 30 years ago. It was a hit in the way way back. The long long ago.
