- The Hellboy comic strip is a pioneer in terms of the quality content on offer, with creator Mike Mignola keeping up the great work for over twenty-five years. One of the most attractive features of the Hellboy universe is the presence of some strange and eerie creatures. These monsters were created with care, and Mignola worked alongside his collaborators to make them as real as possible. The art of drawing up such fascinating, villainous monstrosities was to create a three-dimensional representation: they were not mindless beasts but completely sentient.
Some of these monsters are merely victims of circumstances that turned them that way, while others are pure evil and will not get much sympathy from readers. In this video, we have assembled the meanest of the villains from the Hellboy universe, and their notorious deeds are sure to entertain you!

Yes! This channel comes up with the best videos! 👍
Mike Mignola definitely created something really special when he came up with the basic premise for Hellboy and all of his supporting characters, villains, and creatures. The Hellboy universe combines all of the things I like, Superhero characters, villainous Nazi psychopaths, the Occult, multiple cultural folklore, myths and monsters, Lovecraftian Creatures, and Cosmic Horror all rolled into one comic. All of Hellboy’s adventures as well as the BPRD and his supporting characters are very well written and super entertaining. I just wish Guillermo del Toro had finished his Hellboy movie series because he most definitely set up a third sequel in Hellboy and the Golden Army. The del Toro Hellboy films should’ve been a trilogy. I was also extremely disappointed in the new 2019 Hell Yo film staring David Harbour. He did a pretty decent job with the role but no one can beat Ron Perlman’s portrayal of Hellboy. He was just perfect. He had the voice, the build, and the acting chops to pull off the role. Considering how poor the 2019 film did I don’t think we’ll be getting another live action Hellboy movie anytime soon unless Guillermo del Toro comes back as the director. Hell, I don’t think Ron Perlman is too old to play Hellboy either. With all the prosthetic make up and a really good gym trainer, I think Ron Perlman could definitely give Hellboy another go.
yeah I know right just find out how the comic ended and write a script around
Couldn’t agree more
@@peterherndon3537
2 big changes
Abe kills rasputin triggering the Ogdru Jahad, not hellboy
Liz isn't his gf, she's with Abe
I forgot about the 2019 one. Is it worth watching at all?
It´s a true shame that Guillermo del Toro never had the chance to make his Hellboy 3 movie
I can totally feel what you are trying to say. The studios went for a cheaper and easier route.
@@MarvelousVideos The wrong route without a doubt
Agree 100% I love the deltoro hellboy films, and I am now unable to not give Hellboy Ron Perlmans voice in my head, kinda like Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool
Actually it is truely a shame he got to ruin the characters and the setting with his first two shitty movies. Ben-hackio Del Cancero ruined the IP by letting that hack ron pearlman play hellboy in a way that is nothing like the comics.
@@MarvelousVideos Actually Mignola said "No Mas" to Del-Hacko wanting to ruin what was left of the story lines he didn't already invalidate.
I read baba yaga when I was knee high to a grasshopper. She is one of the craftiest witches. I’m so glad that old folklore and traditions do carry on. Thanks
My grandmother is Ukrainian, so I heard the basic European nightmarish warning tales
First time I read hellboy I was like "Babayaga!"
8:06 Nice, you put some Tsutomu Nihei illustration, yes the father of the manga Blame did some work for Hellboy.
14 Parody Characters in Venture Bros there are so many to choose from
that will be awesome video
Yessssssss I would so watch that!!!
I'm down for that
Nothing better than a tentacle monster to spice a good story
Monsters
There are a bunch of the Ogdru Jahad
Love this channel!! So glad you guys popped up in my feed!!
It would be super cool to see more content from hellboy, but maybe diving deeper into some of the more lore friendly monsters. The mythology. cultural significance. Origin. Differences in portrayal. Stuff like that.
Great videos :)
The green teeth witch was also in Legend! Lol with Tom cruise. One of my favorite movies. I'm glad that alot of stories and mythos from other movies are in this universe. I mean obvious which are references to stories from different cultures. Love that the most that I can recognize the connections 🤔🤪😂❤️
Do you happen to know what comic those additional photos of green teeth are from??
@@ProudGirlDadX2 hello, I haven't seen this in a while. But let me check and I'll let you know if I recognize where its from. I wasn't really into comic books but I'll see 🤷♂️😇
@@ProudGirlDadX2 so I just watched it, and saw that most of the images were from the hell boy comic. Idk which one tbh, but hope that helps. All the other references, were just one off art pieces as far as I could deduce, as the art styles were pretty different and nothing continuous.
Kronen is my favorite, I just love his movie outfit
Sadu-Hem acting as a conduit for Ogdru-Jahad?
The inspiration taken from "The Dunwich horror" is crystal clear.
Duuuuh
There should be more lists about mike mignolas monsters. I honestly like both Hellboy films.
I do too
Perlman was a better hellboy, but 2019 was more comic accurate,
except Alice
But that giant fight was for the most part panel for panel
@@ComicBookGuy420 Thought Alice was a decent character. But my two pet-peeves. Are the "thug" abe sapien of the sequel, but maybe they could've said him and Liz were off on another mission and that's why they weren't with him.🤷
@@zionleach3001 don't get me wrong, she's a great character and a solid portrayal
But Alice is meant to be Irish with red hair
I didn't mind Abe's portrayal, but yeah the second movie wasn't really in his nature
Dunno what they have against comic accurate portrayals
I mean abe should have killed rasputin
And he and liz should have been together, she was like HBs sister
@@ComicBookGuy420 Yeah the Del Toro movies weren't very accurate either. But Blood & Iron and Sword of Storms had the best of both the movies and comics. 🤷 Well since Dark Horse has been bought by a game company(I think.) Maybe we'll get a accurate video game. Like Resident Evil but with Hellboy?
I feel like you missed out a crucial fact that Kroenen was a surgeon pain fetishist who replaced all of his bodyparts with mechanisms..
They covered it in the first movie though?
Great video Marvelous Videos, I really enjoyed it!!
Fun n interesting video. Nice job.
Great video, I saw the second Hellboy movie, it was awesome, and this list was great.
I wouldn't class multiple of these villains as lovecraftian
I would. Remember, not all of Lovecraft''s stories involved alien gods. They also included mad scientists, and unique takes on folklore and fairy tales.
@@johnmccarron7066 that's not why I wouldn't class them as lovecraftian, his brand of horror comes from the fear of the unknown, we know way to much about multiple of the characters so it takes away the uncertainty of the characters.
@@hudsonessex8515 it’s not only the fear of the unknown, but also the unfamiliar, which was a result of HPL’s borderline if not fully realised xenophobia, and I’m not talking just run of the mill racism here, I’m talking he was literally actually afraid of other races and peoples. The fear of the unknown came from his agoraphobia and likely just the insanity that unfortunately ran in his family. The common-made-unfamiliar is very lovecraftian, SOI and the Dunwich horror both play with the human form made unfamiliar like many of these monsters do
@@emilybarclay8831 i never thought of it like that even already knowing that information, im going to have to do some reading
@@hudsonessex8515 Reanimator nuff said.
Jenny Greenteeth could be a folk memory of Gefion, a goddess of northern european paganism, the bed of a body of water is described as 'gefion's ground' (gefionsgrund) at one point in Beowulf, and lakes are prominent where she is mentioned in other sources.
I thought she was in service to Maab?
Could be wrong though
Good to see some classic folklore
@@ComicBookGuy420 there's a book called Beowulf and Grendel by John Grigsby you might find interesting if you like this sort of thing.
@@aputridpileofb-movies6542
I dig Beowulf, a fantastic story that they pretty much dissected for the movie
Dresden Files by Jim butcher, Maab and jenny Greenteeth make appearances
As do some of the other lesser known fae as well
Puck is in the graphic novels
Plus
Santa/Odin
@@ComicBookGuy420 Grigsby's work is more about the archeology/history/anthropology of the story, though the story itself is treated in detail.
@@aputridpileofb-movies6542 is that Sean grigsby?
Oh John grigsby, looking it up, always in the mood for a quality book, thankyou
You forgot hellboy's father and siblings as they are far greater enemys that most of the monsters on this list
in the video's defense, they never actually fought Hellboy AFAIK, and were mostly scheming in the background
Yeah but he never really fought his dad
kornin is an interesting foe, he's like a anti deadpool, uses blades, silent, and in some ways, an ancient cyborg zombie monster
I loved this video! I’m picking up Hellboy in Injustice 2 as my main character right now and I figured it would do me a world of good to look into his lore but also his villains which I really know nothing about.
I know a little bit about Hellboy due to Guillermo Del Toro’s 2004 film but, not much else about the character so I’m looking forward to learning more about Hellboy himself and not just his villains from this channel’s fantastically informative videos.
Awesome stuff I've got to check out this comic series
The guy that plays the antagonistic is a very good actor
The character of the angel of death is an interesting one. Perhaps the most complex of the series creatures.
Awesome Choices 👍. Love the Hellboy Universe.
Hellboy should have been in Mortal Kombat X or Mortal Kombat 11 instead of being in Injustice 2
This a great character, keep sharing.
Thanks! We will. Hellboy Universe is insanely well-built and needs more recognition beyond the movies.
Definitely gonna watch it.
The entire point of life:
Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve. Mathew 20: 28. We are no different. This entire life is a representation of the spiritual warfare going on. Good vs evil. God isn't a flying man in the sky, but the actual representation of Love, Hope, Joy, Peace, Light, etc. Not metaphor, but literally, like an extra demintional wavelength of thought, emotions, and intent. The devil is the opposite wavelength, pain, fear, hate, anger, darkness, etc. Human life is serving one of these two. Not a man in the sky, actual sentient collective universal Love. However, humans are primatives, we make mistakes. It's in our nature, since the fall, to go down the wrong path. This means at some time each one of us has served darkness to some degree. God understands our limited understanding of our own actions, so he gave us forgiveness, though sacrificing himself in human form as Jesus Christ. It is our duty to accept that sacrifice, get the forgiveness, and be better, helping others be better, and spreading this wavelength of Love, Hope, Joy, Peace, Light, etc, thoughout the universe. But God had to make a way for us to get to this place spiritually, this is why evidence is not allowed. Evidence will make you believe, using the fear of absolute punishment to change your behavior, but that won't make you better, just scared. Faith makes you better. It is what redeemes us, not our works. Faith is the hope that things get better, that justice always prevails, that we're at least loved by our creator. But it has to be Faith in Jesus, because of his sacrifice. And there can't be evidence to point us to him, because Love had to be fair. If there were a code in our DNA, what about everyone born before genetic sequencing? If there were a book with the solar system thosands of years ago, what would stop an evil person from hiding/destroying it? If it were something you had to go to, what about the geographically isolated, imprisoned, or enslaved. If it were a train of logic, what about the uneducated, or mentally slow? Not to mention all the people born before schools. Love cannot give to one without giving to the other. So the key to salvation had to be something everyone has access to. The only thing is Faith. This is why God puts it upon your heart to learn about these things, even if it's only to criticize, or hate. God is everywhere, because Love is everywhere, and so is the devil, because hate is everywhere. They're in your head all the time, regardless of weather or not you accept that. They whisper inside your heart, giving you ideas. But more than that, they're inside everyone's heart. This is how they get things done. They corrordanate us like pieces on a chess board. The only difference is, we get to chose who's side we're playing for. At the end of our life, we go to that team's home base, Heaven, or Hell. A place where all that exists is those wavelengths. Hate, pain, anger, fear, darkness; or Love, Hope, Joy, Peace, Pleasure, Light. The choice is yours to make. But you cannot go to Heaven with hate in your heart. You must forgive, repent, and spread joy for those around you. These are sentient eternal controlling forces in our universe. Heaven and Hell are very real places, I've seen them. Those steps prime your soul for a meeting with God. Very literally. Once you've done all four, in that order, you get divine revelation, with all the evidence you'll ever need. They are, forgive your parents, brake down before Jesus, ask for forgiveness, and read the Bible. Step four takes three books to get the revelation. I recommend Genesis, Mathew, and then either Luke, Psalms, or proverbs. The order of the steps is important, step 1 has to come before step 3. I can state that for an absolute certainty that these steps always work. Please, take your salvation seriously. See for yourself. Do those steps. Jesus Christ is Lord. It's all True.
@@jamesmayle4712 how do you came up with this theory?
Man I love seeing some of my favourite villains from the comics in a video like this
The longer the Conqueror worm is on Earth, the stronger he will become.
Much as I wanted to see hellboy 3
What was with them making liz his girlfriend?
And hellboy getting the final shot on rasputin instead of Abe?
The Ogdru Jahad are such a fantastic set of villains
The batman hellboy crossover had a great encounter as well
Love your work
We have another Baba Yaga that Hellboy has never faced! You know, the one that once killed three men in a bar with a *pencil* ! :D
Yeah, I've heard the story.
Baba Yaga != baba Yiga
Ogdru Jahad look like nothing but space Kraken LOL
Very Cool
Imo the Hellboy "franchise" is underrated. Thanks for the video. Upvoted
@MarvelousVideos I’ve always wanted to learn more about Hellboy’s universe and even good hearted he’ll spawn himself so, if you could do more on the lore of not just Hellboy’s villains and universe but also more about the backstory and lore behind Hellboy himself as I’ve always been fascinated to learn more about Mike Mignola’s universe.
Jenny Greenteeth was portrayed in the movie Legend but was given the name Meg Mucklebones. I was completely terrified as a child to go near ponds for a while after seeing her in that movie.
Given that we see bits of hell boys right hand of doom chip off after being hit implies that something made by the god of that universe is not indestructible or protected by magic and can be destroyed causing one of the items that can kickstart the apocalypse completely inert. Just goes to show that while yes the godlike entities of that universe are not all powerful just that enough firepower will bring it down.
9:18 say what you want but Baba Yaga had a major rack in the comics XD
Top 10 Brutal Batman Villains
All of this incredible potential with the source material makes me wish we could get a well produced series, rather than cramming everything into 1 or 2 movies.
It's a shame how batshit crazy Ron Perlman outted himself to be though.
I will never, ever think about Hellboy as anyone but Ron Perelman....
And, jeez, a graphic series about fairytale characters that has baba tags, wowch
Read it ..
And sorry, baba yaga, check it out
Well, Kroenen in the comics wore a mask because he was a germophobe and Gruagachs Body wasn't that of a pig until his spirit became fused with a formorian warrior (pig) thanks to Hellboy... but apart from that, nice list.
You guys don’t understand what livecraftian or cosmic horror means.
The Hell-boy universe is not at all Lovecraftian.
The monsters in 2019 version are pretty awesome tbh
"She can travel great distances in her wooden mortar." Is not a sentence I thought would ever occur in my life, yet here we are.
Sadu-Hem will always be my favorite creature
Cover Movies and shows from the books of Philip k. Dick, or make a video about Movies with cartoon-live action cross over like Congress, Cool world and so on
Hellboy cinematic universe would've been even more interesting and darker than both MCU and DC.
Dark Horse comics is underrated.
Sucks that we may never get another hellboy movie after the flop in 2019
With terms like “Hyperboria” Lovecraft isn’t the only author that they borrowed from.
When can you guys do the villians of cobra from G.I. Joe?
Would love to know the artist of the picture at 4:35
Janny Greenteeth is like the Irish version of baba yaga,
European folklore is so incredible....from werewolfs to vampires to all sorts of golbins and creatures
An animated hellboy show would be so fucking lit
This is the best comic universe. I love ❤️ the hellboy comics. They are much better than the movies
Kafka or Lovecraft, come on.
The best movie depiction of Jenny Greenteeth is in Legend.
I want to know the background music 🎶
kafkaesque?

Katha-Hem, by his description, sounds a lot like Nyarlathotep .
Hellboy sword of storms is my favorite hellboy film
what about the Vampire countess Erzsebet Ondurshko????? or Karl rurpert Kronen?????

Question, why do you keep saying Comic Strip when it is a Comic BOOK.
This is a cool list but the use of "Kafka-esque" really weirded me out. Doesn't red fit with these characters
Another out the ballpark guys!! Personally I LOVE The Latest Hellboy,if for nothing else but the massive amount of beasties...not a popular opinion?? Sue me; popularity isn't part of my working vocabulary!! 😊🤘✌️
