    This is not at all the kind of channel that I normally watch but as an "amateur" woodworker, I really appreciate how much attention to detail and knowledge of Uke construction that this guy has and provides. He also makes a great effort to have all of his facts straight unlike so many "unboxing" videos that seem to possess the algorithmic soul of UA-cam.

      That's very kind! (And you will NEVER see an unboxing on this channel!!)

    I love this one. I feel for it when Alex from SUS reviewed it, way back. I love the sound too, really rich. I nearly bought this but ended up going for the Kai kc5000, also solid acacia, well appointed but significantly cheaper and was very happy with my choice.
    Thanks as usual Baz for the review. Have a good week mate 👍

    Thanks again Baz and to Matt for sending through. Like it picked it had lovely harmonies and seemed better sustain. Quieter ones with clarity mean they can be played without annoying anyone in the morning 👍. The Acacia does look lovely and it suits the binding. I would agree with going to a specialist store, both have sent me wonderful instruments set up fantastically and service is spot on. You have a great week and hopefully see you in 2 weeks time, All the best to all the Mums and carers out there.👏👏🌟

    Beautiful Uke, I just put some Hannabach Goldings on my Mahimahi MS 7M Soprano which has given it a lovely bright jangle, but has now lost its punch. So next string change I'll be going back to nylons with some sugars.

    I, too, had reservations about the partly-wide rosette, but the gorgeous woods and those orange tuner buttons... I love it! And the smooth volume works for me--maybe because I have a sore throat, too!

  • @markattardo
    @markattardo Рік тому +2

    I had serious doubts about the rosette from the macro photos. Seeing the full instrument it starting growing on me. Oddly, the yellow binding sticks out more to me than the rosette😂
    Nice instrument! The price seems fair. Great review👍👍

    Good on Snail for calling it acacia and not trying to pass that off as koa. I agree those are handsome tuners. By the way, my experience with all-acacia (and all-koa) instruments is that they do open up more appreciably than other common hardwoods.

    Great review Baz. I'm thinking that the sound may open up with more playing as it's all solid.

    Very pretty but the orange is a little to loud I think. I really like everything else. I am still not sold on the head stock but it is not a deal breaker. I do like the sound, it’s very melodic. Over all I like this one quite a bit… thanks Baz for another great review…. DOC

    Hi, just wondered if lowering the action decreased the volume, understand older ukes had higher action to obtain the best volume, plus had action lowered
    On wife's uke to make it easier to play cuz of arthritis just a thought what do you think

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  Рік тому

      Whilst lowering action can cut volume, that tends to be more noticeable if you go VERY low - this isn't the case here. I think it's just a less than resonant instrument. You can tell what volume will be like just by holding and tapping an instrument. I think it's a bit over braced. Saying that, maybe the volume did cut a bit due to action, but looking at the photo of it before adjustment, I'd have sent it back!

    Beautiful ukelele and I don't think the price is overly exorbitant. Maybe it does not project forcefully, but very pretty in tone and looks! Thanks, Baz and have a good week off!

    I'm really curious how would it compare to the similarly specced Kai KCI-5000.
    I mean sound-wise, because the Snail is much much prettier hands down.
    Could there be a noticeable difference?

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  Рік тому +1

      Sorry - don't have them both here to compare. From memory, the Kai had better volume strummed, less picked. Six and two threes!

    Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, usually I love abalone on my instruments but in this case I hate the snail rosette - too big. To each his own! - The sound and rest of the uke is very nice.

    While I can understand why some people would fancy this uke, it’s a bit mellow and subdued for my preference and it seems a significant portion of the price is due to the aesthetics. Baz, in the near future, I hope you can review the Uma Evo concert as a comparison. It’s about 1/3 less in cost and - I suspect - livelier in tone.

    Baz, do you think that a satin coat rather than gloss would give this little guy more volume, more sustain?
    I think it’s worth the money.
