@Xochitl Valdez I feel you, I want to get back into drawing too! One thing that I've found helpful is making fan art of something you love- your favorite movie, cartoon, etc. Also, don't let your well of inspiration run dry. Surround yourself with art that excites you! (Just watch Spider Verse, literally every frame is a masterpiece!) Hope this helps!
Xochitl Valdez why not listen to your parents? You might consider that they want the best for you! I have taken breaks now and then over the years, it is a way to recharge your self. I say take a short break and come back and work on a subject that you love! Fan-Art or even a character from a book! You can even try a video game, if your into that. Good luck!
Xochitl Valdez You’re not broken but you might be in a slump, the only way to get out of a slump is to keep swinging or drawing in this case sometimes even painting can get you out of the slump. All you can do is never give up no matter how many bad drawings/paintings you do. Keep doing keep creating and eventually you’ll start liking them again. Also like I said create something you love or work on something you love a favorite comic a favorite TV show or a video game something you love. Hang in there and don’t give up!

@@nokodishiko1916 I'm an acrylic artist too! I recommend looking for some blending gel. I've tried several brands and my favorite is the Plaid brand. Least favorite is Liquitex slow dry. But here's the thing: spread the gel on the surface you're painting on instead of mixing in the paint on the palette. This will extend the dry time with less overall effect on the consistency of the paint. I like to basecoat in standard acrylic, let dry, then apply extender/blending medium where I'm working.

DrawingWiffWaffles walnut oil Is actually an extender, and typically dries slower than linseed oil. However, titanium white is a fast drying pigment so mixtures with a lot of titanium white will dry faster. The other major thing you’re missing is Gamsol or other odorless mineral spirits. When you saw someone mix a mid tone and stain the canvas that was by adding some paint to some gamsol and rubbing it over the canvas with a brush or a paper towel. Super lean mixtures of only gamsol will dry in 10 minutes.
The small painting of the women with the flower necklace was very beautiful. And the progress you made from it to the women with the flat hair. Enjoyed this video a lot. Thank you for taking us on your adventures with new paints and art supplies.
THIS. This is the video I've been waiting for. 😭 I've gotten back into my art lately and I've picked up oil painting. There's so much that goes into it! The Walnut oil is a medium used to increase the amount of time the paint will be wet before drying. The solvent that you keep mentioning is actually paint thinner, Rin. Paint thinner is where the caution is! However, if you're in a well ventilated area, you'll be fine as long as you don't huff the fumes. 😂 Also, it wasn't medium mixed with oil paints that made the background like you thought, Rin. It was paint thinner mixed with the paint to make it super thin to create that background hue and to help the colors blend even more effortlessly!
Whenever I draw with something new I use my favorite OC because at this 5 year point I doubt she cares if I accidentally smudge her face when I decide to use charcoal.

I don't know how it works with paints but a lot of people use other types of oils to blend coloured pencils (my preferred medium) such as baby oil or even (clean) vegetable/olive/sunflower oil from the kitchen. Personally I found it too greasy for my tastes and use odourless mineral spirits such as Gamsol to blend with but I imagine it would be a lot less so with paint.
