2023 YZ450F turned into YZ350F with Yamaha Power Tuner

  • Dialing back the 2023 Yamaha YZ450F to 350F using the Yamaha Power Tuner. The app says fuel and ignition settings can be adjusted +-10 steps. To see how much response and power feel could be dialed back I created a map with -10 on both Fuel and Ignition. Wow! Really slows down the engine RPM build and dials back the power. A nice option and kind of like having two bikes in one with the push of a button. Fire breathing 450F moto bike or much slower revving easier to ride 350F.

    May wanna try richer fuel . Straight from the app in the engine tab it says .
    decrease overall power - increase fuel over all rpms decrease ignition timing over all rpms.

    Love this video!!! My riding area the 450 is a rare bike, tight tech trails, everyone rides 250-300 2 strokes or 250 and some 350 4 strokes. With the wide range of adjustment available on this yZ450 with the smart phone app, the 450 is once again a viable option!! Just load that map on map switch position 2, and you literally have 2 bikes in one!! smooth 350 and fire breathing 450 with the push of a button. Long races, bet most guys would eventually end up in the 350 map as they get tired! Thank you!!!

    Once you have played around with your “350 map” it would be really interesting to see a woods loop comparison between a YZ250FX, your KTM 350 and the YZ450 in 350 and 450 modes.
    If you could just crack on and get that done that’d be great 😂

      Lots of ways to dial back the 23 YZ450F - this was just retarding the ignition all the way and limited the fuel as much as possible. I this video I left the fuel stock and retarded the ignition in steps from -10 down to -7 (I think!)...at the beginning of the video I show the numbers. Thank you for the video, I really appreciate it!
    I’m picking up a 2024 YZ 450F tomorrow. I haven’t ridden off-road in a while, everyone I spoke with told me to get either a 250 or 350.
    Then I met a YZ450 rider who’s also in his 50s, and a bigger guy like me. His advice was to get the YZ450 and make it into whatever kind of bike you want with the tuning app.

    Ok so I have the opportunity out to buy a 2024 450fx for the same price as I will pay OTD for a 25 yz250fx. Having never ridden a 4 stroke I’m not sure what to do here. I am comfortable on a 300 2 stroke and I am concerned the 250f will leave me sad in the hills of southern Ohio. Oh and I can buy a 2024 TC250 OTD for 8300. I will ride combo of moto and single track/harsecramble type stuff in southern Ohio. What’s your opinion?

      So many choices! 24 YZ450FX is a BEAST!!! Even dialed back that engine is still super responsive and strong. The chassis is firm and reactive - a little busy at speed but that quickness is good on the trails. YZ450FX will laugh at the hills. Here is a better YZ450F dialed back video... ua-cam.com/video/MsJrtPo70xg/v-deo.html
      25 YZ250FX might be the sleeper choice. The new chassis feels really good on the 250F with improved ergos and more agility. If you are used to riding a 300 smoker any 250F will have just enough power most of the time and perhaps lack enough power some of the time - just have to keep it pinned and revving. The YZ250F engine runs has the best partial throttle low to mid roll on torque feel of the 250F's.
      I rode a 24 TC250 and liked the lower suspension, total lack of vibration, and power was stronger than expected after coming on my 23 TX300. Smooth, fast, and fun... ua-cam.com/video/_VTj89Cm_MU/v-deo.html
      For me an Austrian 300 TBI smoker (KTM 300XC/Husky TX300/Gas Gas EX300) is hard to beat as a Do-it-All 2-stroke. For 24 model year the new WP spring cartridge fork works great. All of those bikes have rebates now (TX300 is $1500). If you are a picky rider I would spend the extra money on a 25 model of the Austrian bike with the updated frame. The improved bump compliance and tire contact patch feel is noticeable.
      Let me know what you buy!

      I just bought a 2024 YZ450 FX and I have a 2022 KTM 350 XCF which I love, I bought the YZ 450FX for the Nevada desert and the track , I would like to dial back the engine braking on the YZ450fx to match the KTM, does anyone know how to reduce engine braking on the YZ Tuner app? The YZ450 fx is 10 lbs heavier than the 350 but does not feel heavy.

    On the map you made for this video, what Rev Limit do you have it set to? 8000?

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1  Рік тому

      Not sure I understand. I put -10's pretty much everywhere and turned TC on high. I left the rev limit for Launch Control at 8000rpm but I have not engaged launch control - no effect while riding.

    So....could you dial up the 250 and get an even lighter and more flickable bike with nearly 350 performance?

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1  Рік тому +1

      Slowly the engine response does not reduce any engine inertia or weight feeling - just makes the engine smoother with slower RPM build and less power.

    • @Mockle07
      @Mockle07 Рік тому

      lol no. The 250 is essentially at max performance, all you can do is dial it back or move the power/torque around the rev range. No map is going to give you what an extra 100cc can.

    • @jameswampler3135
      @jameswampler3135 Рік тому +1

      Lol....I guess I already knew that answer. So,guess I'll just keep my 350s

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1  Рік тому

      @@jameswampler3135 The EFI map tuning allows the engine character to be changed noticeably - that can help dial a bike in for different riding conditions (like taking a 450 moto bike off road riding)...all by using a smart phone. Sometimes using the myKTM app I dial back the power on my KTM 350XCF so it is more like a 250F and easier to ride on tight trails and can result in quicker lap times.

      I have not ridden a YZ250F with the dual injector but I can imagine it makes a lot more power. I assume you are running a specially mapped VORTEX ECU that controls the extra injector?

      @@mxengineer1 Yes, mapped by twisted development. I just had the ECU updated with some new maps. We have the same taste in bikes. I have a 2023 300XC and had a 350XC-F until recently. I also purchased a 23 YZ450F a few weeks ago.

      @@mxengineer1 I had a 2021 that I raced for 2 years in GNCC and hare scrambles. It had Xact Pro suspension and a tuned Vortex ECU. I liked the bike because it was fast enough to stay with the 450s on the start and I had a enduro tune in the ECU so it had good throttle response in the woods. I struggled with the suspension set up and ultimately I couldn’t find comfort on the bike. I started racing a 2022 YZ250F and would find that I felt much less fatigued at 5he end of a race. The dual injector kit on the Yamaha makes it rip like a 350. They only place I felt like the KTM had an advantage was it turned a little better with better front end feel. I am excited for the YZ450F as it appears to be a better turning chassis. I will still be riding the YZ250FX for hare scrambles. The 450 will be my MX bike and at the moment the 300XC is my Enduro bike.
