- I'm a huge believer that the most important mod on your dirtbike is suspension. I took my bike nicknamed Yak up to Tyler at Applied Technology (A Race Tech Service Center) to get the spring rate changed, gold valves, and custom shim stacks. Here we show you a bit of the process to putting the front wheel on correct, setting race sag, and an interesting demonstration I asked Tyler to show.
If you want to take your suspension to your local Race Tech Service Center, email Chris@RaceTech.com, tell him DeeO sent you and he'll get you in touch with your local shop and give you a little bit of a discount on your suspension work!
Huge thank you to Tyler for taking his time to film this and help me make this video. Follow him at

I learned SO MUCH listening to Tyler while filming this. I hope you learn something new, too.
👍
Fascinating video 10/10 will use when setting the sag on both my bikes lmao
Did you go to stiffer springs? Great vid. Thanks.
hey man, I just got one if these bikes did u think the stock valving was bad? The spring rate in front is too high (.51 I'm. 47) but was gunna try that with stock valving first to save money. Hoping it is enough but my gut tells me it won't be. Can't seem to get into the bottom of the stroke consistently so far.
Good video. Maybe a question to your friend from racetech: why would the manufacturer recommend a sag between 90-100mm when they recommend between 100-106mm?
It is all based on preference and theory. We use wheel travel to determine sag and have done it this way since Paul Thede started the company. Some OEM will use test rider feedback to get there sag range and that is going to be subjective to what the test rider’s likes. There is not one correct way to do it and everyone does it a little differently. We feel through testing the way we do it works best for the riders we work with.
@@appliedtechnolgysuspension3744 Very informative. Thanks again for all your explanations.
Do you mind telling us the cost to get the suspension dialed in at a place like this?
It's all so dependant on so many factors. But contact Tyler (Applied) with your make/model/year, type of riding, and your weight without gear and he'll get you a recommended setup and quote!
Tyler is the man!!!
No you are! But yeah Tyler is too lol
Very informational Thanks for sharing!
I’m kinda geeking out on his torque wrench tbh
DUDE RIGHT?? My harbor freight “Pittsburgh” just doesn’t compare.
hos far down do you have your tamer button tip of plastic to "to the top of the bracket"
Top of the metal ring to the top of the tamer assembly is 5 inches without any weight on the front end (bike on the stand). So right about 6 inches to the top button!
Kind of like mtb suspension.
Yeah! You still have your compression and rebound and everything.
"Perfect" video :)
Clever 😂. Thanks for watching!
The Yamaha manual you get with the bike tells you how to do that! That's nothing special.
This might blow your mind but a lot of people don’t read those.
@@ReturnOfDeeO Yeah and I am not dissing this guy at all because I use Racetech myself but the engineers at Yamaha make sure that this information is there to keep that bike as they designed it. I mean millions or maybe billions has gone into the design of this new 450 which is the best bike out there second to none.
@@jeffhicks1008 all that money gone to waste because people don’t read the manual and put the wheel and tire on wrong. So I’m doing my best to get the info in front of others on how to do it since more people will look it up on UA-cam vs cracking the manual open!
@@ReturnOfDeeO The translation to English is sometimes a little confusing on the wording the Japanese use 🤣
why doesn’t you go to thunder
I does go to thunder. Just haven’t recently.
