    Hi Everyone,
    This video is now over a year old and a lot has changed. Technically I'm still using it the way it is in the video but my purposes for it is very different.
    This board was made for playing at church and a few different gigs like occasional weddings and random other things that pop up. I made the board over our summer and this video was made about 1 week after Covid hit us here in Australia and everything was locked down. My church immediately moved to small acoustic bands and while I did play sometimes it was mostly acoustic so I never really got to test it well enough to make a followup video. I've since stepped down from the band at my current church to focus entirely on training and running the livestream team.
    While I'm not currently playing at church I am working with a new band ( ua-cam.com/users/weareamberlights ) and with them the HX Stomp with Helix 3.0 was plenty of processing as I could make presets for each song and snapshots for each sound needed. I don't need the flexibility as we have a structure for each song, a little bit of flexibility is handy but this rig has more flexibility than I could ever need for my current gigs. Essentially the needs have changed.
    I'm currently working on a setup thats smaller, lighter and more flexible using Helix Native on my laptop and implementing wireless midi with a WIDI jack and the Morningstar. I'd love to say video coming soon but don't hold me to that.

    Cool board. But the background song is really really really really bad. I mean it's hideous. It's sooooo bad that I had to stop 4 times to be able to make it the video. Just sharing the pain.

    Now that the hx stomp has the capacity to use up to 8 blocks, your pedalboard just became much stronger. I was able to add an extra overdrive and delay to a preset in which I already had 6 blocks but a little dsp to spare.

      Just got Helix 3.0 installed. I’m going to use it as an opportunity to rethink my whole programming philosophy.

    Of course you made the right call in designing and building a custom board! Was it practical? Probably not. But hopefully it is exactly what you wanted it to be. Evidently, as your needs change, you are able to make changes to your board to adapt. That’s great! And many of those components will probably find a new life in a different set up as time goes by. Sounds like you have plenty of tech knowledge to get what you want from all of those products on your board. I’m not nearly as tech savvy so I am likely to go for an all-in-one unit, probably Line 6, to get the most effective and most convenient use from my Fender Acoustasonic Strat. Being able to get the right “amplification” and effects that each type of sound (acoustic vs electric) requires from one relatively simple rig is my goal. I thought about a bunch of ABY boxes and individual effects and DI’s and cab sims etc…but thoughts of practicality are prevailing.
    Nice board! Let’s hear some sounds!

    Hello. I have almost the same set on my pedalboard, I don't know much about midi and I'm having problems with synchronizing my h9. My chain is like this: Morngistar MC6 (Midi controller) which controls the HX Stomp and then the H9. I don't know how to control the H9 from MC6. I made my own patches. When I switch to the factory presets of the HX Stomp, the H9 can change the presets. Can you help me to know how to synchronize the HX Stomp and the H9 to control them with the MC6? Thanks in advance

    • @AlexJonesAuraural
      @AlexJonesAuraural  2 роки тому

      Have you stored the preset on the H9 or are you just using the editor? If you save it on the H9 it is exactly the same process as recalling a factory preset.

      Benjamin, you might need to adjust the midi channel of the Hx and H9. I have that exact same board with an MC6 an HXstomp and an H9 and what you're describing sounds like you have both the HX and H9 on the same midi channel.

    It’s not a real helix but at least you have dual redundancy!!
    One helix or Hx stomp is a single point of failure.
    Awesome board!!

    I do something similar with my setup minus all the midi cause I haven’t got time to get it all working. Plus the band I’m in is pretty much clean dirty solo stuff with the occasional wah or delay

    hey did you build the midi cables yourself as well? what brand did you use?

    • @AlexJonesAuraural
      @AlexJonesAuraural  Рік тому

      Yeah I made them custom so they were the correct length and orientation. I don't recall the brand unfortunately. They're all pretty much the same. Small, awkward to work with and just sending control signals so quality isn't of great importance

      Hi Alec,
      With 3.0 I've pretty much stopped using the H9 with my current band. Everything is done through the stomp. It doesn't have the flexibility that adding the H9 gave me but I'm not playing in a church setting at the moment and everything with my band is structured so I don't need to go off book as much.
      I've also done a lot of further programming with the Morningstar so the extra controller is obsolete and my current band uses click tracks and pads so I'm adding a midi clip to each of our songs so I wont have to do much of the switching myself anyway.
      Currently, I'm working on a setup that will use Helix native inside Ableton Live. I'll put an audio interface in our stage rack and bring my laptop in my gigbag. A Widi Jack and the Morningstar will give me access to anything I need from my mic stand but with a midi track baked into our tracks computer switching all my snapshots and presets, I think I'll only really need a mute button for tuning. Once that's up and running I'll try put together another video showing that setup and how it functions

    Hey Alex,
    What size is your board?

  • @tomattah_
    @tomattah_ 4 роки тому

    This is so much like my own fly-rig board that it's scary. L6 G70, HX Stomp, H9 in loop of stomp, Morningstar MC3! Question: you removed the H9 casing to spray paint it?

    • @AlexJonesAuraural
      @AlexJonesAuraural  4 роки тому +1

      It’s a great setup that I feel perfectly mixes flexibility with portability.
      Mc3 wasn’t out when I put this together otherwise I may have gone that route and made it even smaller or added another pedal (I’m only human haha)
      Yes I did remove everything from the h9 except the screen guard which I just masked off. The inside aren’t too hard to remove if you know what you’re doing with pedals.

      @@AlexJonesAuraural You can see my board here: ibb.co/WP8vDwC Essentially, I have to do an electric and acoustic show (hence the stomp box and looper and ABY box) otherwise the guts of it are very, very similar. +1 on the G70 as a great unit - no idea why Line 6 have discontinued them.

    • @AlexJonesAuraural
      @AlexJonesAuraural  4 роки тому +1

      @@tomattah_ love those foot switches. Always thought about getting some. Did you find they made a real difference? I only ever run 1 instrument at a time so I do all my switching internally with the Stomp for acoustic, electric and bass.
      I didn’t even know line6 had discontinued the g70. I guess they’ve got something else out or coming soon?

    • @tomattah_
      @tomattah_ 4 роки тому

      @@AlexJonesAuraural barefootbuttons.com Yes, they make a huge difference - I do a fair amount of switching on the HX in stompbox mode and it just means a positive contact every time and minimal faff.
      I might have a think about the external routing. You're the second person in 2 days who's been talking about the pinstripe DI boxes - have you seen this video? ua-cam.com/video/acxbMmo0NZg/v-deo.html
