After doing a quick overview video about the Morningstar MC8 midi controller, I wanted to do a much more in depth video on how well the MC8 works with the Line 6 HX Stomp. By adding the MC8 to the Stomp, it opens up so many possibilities for utilizing many features of the Stomp in a very simple manner. this is exactly my current approach, I got the Stomp as a complement to my pedal board but soon it evolved into a Stomp board with an MC6, can't wait for Helix version 3 and those 8 blocks!!

Awesome video Jason. Very informative! I’m also thinking of integrating the Boss RC 500 into the efx send/return of the HX Stomp and have it as the last item in the chain.
This is perfect, answers nearly all the questions I have. Would like to know how to channel switch an amp as well. What midi channel to use for the amp.

I think I discovered that the CC messages input on the Morningstar to turn blocks on/off on the HX Stomp won’t work later unless the changes to the preset are saved on the HX Stomp too.
I got a MC8 coming, excited and scared haha... however I noticed on the tap tempo / tuner section in this segment when you did long press to get to tuner page, it changed the tap tempo both times when you turned tuner on and long pressed it off...
You might have already figured this out, but for anyone else reading: the fix for this is to make the tap tempo a Release action instead of a Press action.

Hi Jason, I was trying to setup my HX Effects like you did with the stomp, in that when you press a Preset like 01A in the Effects unit it automatically changes the program on the MC8 to B01. I can't seem to get these units to work. I've tried all different types of settings but now I'm wondering is this just a special setup with the Stomp and MC8 only.
Can you please make a video using a mc8 or mc6 with a Helix LT and how to used to add more effect thru the mc8 or mc6 ? Please

Do you have to go through this process for every preset? What if you have OD in one preset but not another?
I really like how you can basically make the HX Stomp to do a full pedalboards with of stuff just when you add some switching capabilities. One question though: Is there a way around with the MC8 having only 30 banks? Does that mean that I can only have the MC8 on 30 Stomp presets (1A-10C)? I like to make a new Stomp preset for every song I play so that would mean I can only have 30 songs on a gig because the Morningstar only has 30 banks. Can I use say MC8's bank 1 for multiple Stomp presets? Say I want my MC8 bank one layout on Stomp presets 1A and 1B. Is that possible?
Yes, you just wouldn't have the Stomp control the banks on the MC8, do it the other way around. I control my presets from the MC8 (well, I have a 6). I select the Stomp preset from the MC8 and it does two things at the same time: send a PC to the Stomp, send a bank jump to the MC8. That way I can load any preset and it has the corresponding MC bank connected to it. Does that make sense? And technically you could have 24 Stomp presets loadable on one MC8 bank. Just make "release", "double tap", and "longpress" load 3 different presets on each MC8 switch. So you could make switch A on the MC8 load up Stomp presets 1, 2, and 3 using those three button-press types, and then rinse and repeat for the other 7 buttons. So bank 1 on the MC8 would be your songs bank, and then banks 2-30 would be your various bank setups, any of which you could attach to any preset in the Stomp. And actually, I think the MC8 has two pages per bank, so you could realistically have 48 "songs" or HX Stomp presets per 1 bank of the MC8, at least for selecting and loading up.
I was just wanting to ask you if you think adding a hx effects to an hx stomp is a good idea? Im wanting to use it with my British style bassbreaker 15. I am finding just two stomp boxes hard to work with. I was scared in the beginning to just get the full helix but now im committed to the stomp i cant afford to just eat it or sale it and loose half my money. If i get the expression pedal and the hx effects will that work with the stomp to give me a few more options?

Can I use my Mission Engineering EP1-L6 straight with MC8 or MC6?
The short answer to your question is no. The MC8 requires a (TRS Tip-Ring-Sleeve) expression pedal. Unfortunately the EP1-L6 Utilizes a (TS Tip-Sleeve) connection.
Jason, I just bought a MC8 and have never used a midi control , is it just a standard 5 pin midi cable on both ends I need to hook up to HX Stomp? I looked at temple audio and didn’t see any midi cables like mentioned in this video
I guess I’m wondering do I need a MIDI to USB cable to hook up to PC to edit with software as well? I’m like a 3rd grader but that’s the reason I went with Morningstar as it looks very user friendly
When you change snapshots on the mc8, does the mc8’s lcd keep sync with the stomps on / off effect states. For example if the delay is toggled on for snapshot 1, when you select snapshot 2 and delay is off on the stomp does the mc8’s lcd switch to off? Hope that makes sense!
You can program the LCD in the MC8 to say whatever you want in any state on the Stomp...very flexible!

@@blinds122000 nope I don't think do, because as far as I am concerned, Midi doesn't do that. Would be great if the company writing the midi standard would integrate a TalkBack Funktion. At least in USB midi
Hey Jason thinking of getting MC-8 but I’m wondering could I send a command to HX Stomp and let’s say a Jackson Audio Bloom MIDI or any other midi device ? For instance if I have hx plus three other MIDI pedals could I change settings on all of them simultaneously? Sorry Im MIDI illiterate
Yes, you just daisychain them together with midi cables. However, if your midi pedal uses TRS you might need a Disaster Area Midibox 4 to convert the signal.
I’m not sure which one to get. What can you do with the MC8 that you can’t do with the MC6

@@JasonSadites I have the HX Effects. I assume that the Stomp and the HX Effects has basically the same CC and value #s. I didn't see "HX Effects" listed in the Midi Dictionary in the video.
@@gotmilkduds6683 not totally sure. You can check the manuals in the Midi section and it will give you the answers. Also I believe with the new update for the Morningstar editor you can make your own midi dictionary entries 😀
