ToneX Stomp! Could the HX Stomp run Tonex? No, but kind of...
I love gear but as a receiving gear addict, buy more stuff is a slippery slope. I'd much rather use something I already had to achieve something not seen before. The Tonex pedal and Tonex one were certainly market disrupting but they still do cost money and space on a pedalboard but there's a free app so...
Here's an in depth overview of how to host Tonex on an iPad and use the Line 6 HX Stomp as an audio interface. This allows you to utilise the Tonex app for amp and pedal modelling and free up the DSP of the HX Stomp to run more effects without losing the portability of the HX Stomp.
Personally, I think the Tonex amp captures sound amazing but even if you don't think they're any better than the HX amps, you have to admit that running stereo amps kinda kills the HX stomp for anything else. Not anymore.

In this video I show that it is possible to internally wire and mount 3 aux switches to a Morningstar MC6. Amazing! It’s actually like having 3 tonex devices. And I also think you will not add latency because you are staying digital and do not need to convert to analog like when using the tonex in the effects loop. Great!!!

    Great video! I have not seen anything like this before. I will definitely try this! My small suggestion for this and/or future videos (if you are going to keep filming in the same space) would be to please change the color of the text you add to the video. It is very unreadable against your background. Thanks again!

    Just get a Tonex One and run it in the FX loop and treat the FX loop block like an A+C block. That's what I've been doing. It's cheaper and more convenient that way as well! Saves a TON of DSP (and the sounds are unlimited). Super great travel rig, as well.

There are 25000+ to choose from and you can store 20 at a time on the pedal (and switch between 3 on the pedal itself--without a computer). It cost me $179 with free shipping and I mount it on my pedalboard or throw it in my guitar case along with the Stomp, no iPad/Computer required.

I was thinking about selling my HX Stomp and switching to two ToneX One‘s but didn’t want to miss the flexibility of the Stomp And know I can get the best of both worlds and just use the ToneX Amps last in my chain as I use them anyways Do you know if there is a good alternative free app to replace AUM ? And do you have a input delay? Or does it track in realtime, so there’s no drawback when playing live ?!

    Of course you made the right call in designing and building a custom board! Was it practical? Probably not. But hopefully it is exactly what you wanted it to be. Evidently, as your needs change, you are able to make changes to your board to adapt. That’s great! And many of those components will probably find a new life in a different set up as time goes by. Sounds like you have plenty of tech knowledge to get what you want from all of those products on your board. I’m not nearly as tech savvy so I am likely to go for an all-in-one unit, probably Line 6, to get the most effective and most convenient use from my Fender Acoustasonic Strat. Being able to get the right “amplification” and effects that each type of sound (acoustic vs electric) requires from one relatively simple rig is my goal. I thought about a bunch of ABY boxes and individual effects and DI’s and cab sims etc…but thoughts of practicality are prevailing. Nice board! Let’s hear some sounds!

    Hello. I have almost the same set on my pedalboard, I don't know much about midi and I'm having problems with synchronizing my h9. My chain is like this: Morngistar MC6 (Midi controller) which controls the HX Stomp and then the H9. I don't know how to control the H9 from MC6. I made my own patches. When I switch to the factory presets of the HX Stomp, the H9 can change the presets. Can you help me to know how to synchronize the HX Stomp and the H9 to control them with the MC6? Thanks in advance

    • @AlexJonesAuraural
      @AlexJonesAuraural 2 роки тому

      Have you stored the preset on the H9 or are you just using the editor? If you save it on the H9 it is exactly the same process as recalling a factory preset.

      Benjamin, you might need to adjust the midi channel of the Hx and H9. I have that exact same board with an MC6 an HXstomp and an H9 and what you're describing sounds like you have both the HX and H9 on the same midi channel.

    Hi Everyone, This video is now over a year old and a lot has changed. Technically I'm still using it the way it is in the video but my purposes for it is very different. This board was made for playing at church and a few different gigs like occasional weddings and random other things that pop up. I made the board over our summer and this video was made about 1 week after Covid hit us here in Australia and everything was locked down. My church immediately moved to small acoustic bands and while I did play sometimes it was mostly acoustic so I never really got to test it well enough to make a followup video. I've since stepped down from the band at my current church to focus entirely on training and running the livestream team. While I'm not currently playing at church I am working with a new band ( ua-cam.com/users/weareamberlights ) and with them the HX Stomp with Helix 3.0 was plenty of processing as I could make presets for each song and snapshots for each sound needed. I don't need the flexibility as we have a structure for each song, a little bit of flexibility is handy but this rig has more flexibility than I could ever need for my current gigs. Essentially the needs have changed. I'm currently working on a setup thats smaller, lighter and more flexible using Helix Native on my laptop and implementing wireless midi with a WIDI jack and the Morningstar. I'd love to say video coming soon but don't hold me to that.

    • @AlexJonesAuraural
      @AlexJonesAuraural 3 роки тому

      Hi Alec, With 3.0 I've pretty much stopped using the H9 with my current band. Everything is done through the stomp. It doesn't have the flexibility that adding the H9 gave me but I'm not playing in a church setting at the moment and everything with my band is structured so I don't need to go off book as much. I've also done a lot of further programming with the Morningstar so the extra controller is obsolete and my current band uses click tracks and pads so I'm adding a midi clip to each of our songs so I wont have to do much of the switching myself anyway. Currently, I'm working on a setup that will use Helix native inside Ableton Live. I'll put an audio interface in our stage rack and bring my laptop in my gigbag. A Widi Jack and the Morningstar will give me access to anything I need from my mic stand but with a midi track baked into our tracks computer switching all my snapshots and presets, I think I'll only really need a mute button for tuning. Once that's up and running I'll try put together another video showing that setup and how it functions
