Star Trek Picard Season 3 Episode 4.

NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER!!
This whole season is a love letter to TNGs legacy. Its hard to watch without getting emotional.
also some meaningful shoutouts to DS9 and Voyager! 😄
More than TNG, this harkens back to TOS, Voyager, Enterprise and DS9. All the feels.
You're God Damn right it was
It definitely was. But what made it so emotionally endearing to this TNG fan was what also made the plot increasingly implausible. One of my co-workers is also a big TNG fan and he too thought the plot in season 3, especially at the end, was ridiculous.
I balled my eyes out over every episode of Picard. I still can’t believe how bad the Star Trek universe has become.
Someone finally arranged to find some rocks for Riker to throw.
@@jdslyman I wonder though if it was revenge on the shrike or the asteroids (wasnt an old ship of riker stuck in an asteroid in a tng episode?)
😂😂😂
Now that's a deep cut.
The Pegasus is the name of the episode you're thinking of.@@tome7998

"Open the jaws wide enough and the prey just runs right in."
Never seen a Tom & Jerry cartoon, have you?
I love the way that Picard's son just looks over at his old man like "ok... NOW I get why you brought the old fogey along."
Riker got to shine in this series the way the writers never really gave him a chance to in the movies. Loved seeing him back (and would love to see him do more in Legacy)
Lower Decks really made this possible though. It showed he was a hard wearing Kirk like captain who was always knee deep in some kind of trouble, with ambient upbeat jazz playing in the background.
This is exactly what Lower Decks Riker would have done.
I think I hear a Riker series in the making!
I don't know - He worked his stick pretty well in Insurrection!
He kinda annoyed me for much of this episode with his defeatist attitude, waiting to die. But besides that he was great.

You're right, and also the line. Your goddamn right is a better line than were done running from these bastards
I agree with this sentiment, though having used the Riker Maneuver in STO, it's quite fun to kill a group of tailing ships with what is essentially starship flatulence.
Riker comes up with the BEST maneuver's 🤣🤣
Riker did it better, after the villain threw a starship at them.
Right, and it looks like more than a few of his "maneuvers" worked on Troi too. Lol

Instructor: "Good point recruit!"
And the best maneuvers as well.

I love this reference!
Only difference is Killer Croc missed, Riker didn’t
Batman TAS
@@matthewcaughey8898 No wonder, a Shrike is a bird.
Only bats can dodge giant rocks.
Gad... . Back when cartoons were better-written than all live-action shows. The DCAU from Batman TAS to JLU (some also include Teen Titans) was the apex of approachable entertainment that didn't insult your intelligence. Marvel scripts where drivel in comparison.
"And what you fail to realize is that my ship is dragging mines!" ^_-
That's where Riker got the idea. 😆😆 Never give up! Never surrender!!
I understood that reference.
Sarris: "Turn! Turn!" Nice reference, glad to see a reference to Galaxy Quest
I want to give props to the incredible musical score. A phenomenal season and the score definitely enhanced these moments immensely.
And we get to hear Craig Huxley play the blaster beam again.
oh hell yeah... I love it.
The James Horner inspired touches around space dock were so good.
Agreed, these little squits were certainly a nod to Encounter at Farpoint ❤
No joke, I straight-up CHEERED the first time I saw this scene. Scared the hell out of the dog.
I love how the bridge crew worked together without direct orders or even a remark from Picard to stabilize the ship riding the wave ❤
2:45 really plucks the heart strings. They look like the aliens from Farpoint episode 1, and the way how that bridge is being lit by the viewscreen. The music is just so well done.
It's about time The Riker Maneuver stood for something more than a funny way to sit down in a chair.
You never saw the theatrical cut of _Star Trek: Nemesis,_ I take it.

I'd have said it's stone cold.

(This was my reaction upon seeing the USS Titan throwing a space rock at the "Shrike") "OOH!!! THAT'S GOTTA HURT!!! Captain Vadic got a taste of her own medicine! Good old Wild Bill Riker! What a season of Star Trek this was!
The Shrike was a stone's throw away.
The proud smile on Picard's face.
2:52 These aliens looked like the jellyfish creatures from TNG's very first episode ("Encounters at Far Point"), seen now with 21st century CGI. If it's really them this makes it so bittersweet since they were Picard and his TNG crew' very first contact and likely one of their very last adventure as a crew and a family too. Too bad Deanna is not traveling on the 'Titan.' If she does, she would likely translate the humming of these aliens as: "A feeling of great joy and gratitude! Great joy.....and gratitude!!"
Let’s just thank god they won’t be feeling PAAAAIIIN. 😂
That was the first thing that popped into my mind.
And I was wondering how many of those jellyfish aliens got sucked into the warp core when they opened the nacelle doors to recharge the warp drive...
pretty sure it was done that way on purpose to book end the shows
They state in the episode that these are new lifeforms. Also, no official confirmation that they are the same species.
Seven: "...to seek out new life..."
Riker: "I think we should boldly get the hell outta here."
CLASSIC!!!
Crusher, not Seven.
LaForge! GUN IT! STAY INSIDE!! I love that line!
When "Fire at Will!" becomes "Fired by Will!"
Shout out to the director for using the TNG Tractor beam sound effect on the Titan!
There are so many great moments here, but I think what is most underappreciated is @ 1:00 where once Picard gives the order to stay in the energy wake, the helms crew (LaForge specifically) understands the assignment and they all instinctively preform their duty to... almost create order out of chaos and it is beautiful.
Riker is a hell of a Captain (and we all know who to thank for that), but Picard is the inspiration that we all expect him to be. Absolutely beautiful!

And always be dragging mines.
Lots of them.
"Riker must have seen Galaxy Quest..."
ahem... Lieutenant, "Historical Records."
Frakes is a big fan of that movie.
I would just like to point out the line: "Mark 091, dead ahead!" That's EXACTLY what we see on-screen in the VFX. Well done, show. Details can make or break a show and they done GOOD here.
Mark 091 would be directly above them correct?
@@CrackedCandy yeah - dyslexic post. He said 019, which is actually correct lol
2:22 One of the best two lines in the whole season
"They threw a rock at us! Lunatics!"
The music for season 3 has been nothing short of incredible.
Riker is the space dad we all wish we had. I love Frakes and can’t wait to see the SNW season 3 episodes he directed.
"Riker Throws An Asteroid", funny thing I did the same thing last night in the bathroom, TMI. 😂
LOL
Ah, I see Riker’s been rewatching old episodes of “Galaxy Quest” from early 21st century earth… no weapons? Just tractor some $h¡t up and throw it at the baddies; mines, rocks, some of Chef Rikers’s “deluxe” biscuit pizza… whatever makes the enemy go boom!
After that movie came out Patrick Stewart told a story about how Frakes called him up telling him how he had to go see the movie himself.
This is pure perfection- the writing, the acting, and oh my word…. The music 🎶 ❤so so so beautiful
So beautiful !!! Do you by chance know the name of the music played at the end of this episode when Picard realizes it was Jack in 10 forward asking him about his family years earlier? I’ve listened to the soundtrack and tried to find it but don’t think it’s on there. Any ideas on where I can find it? Such a great soundtrack!!!
Agreed 🖖❤🖖
You enjoyed that. Your damned right.
The galaxy’s in trouble!!! Riker, “Hold my Beer”!!!
I think these space jellyfish creatures were meant to be related to the creatures from Encounter at Farpoint.
I was so expecting them to be Starjellies as well.
They state in the episode that these are new lifeforms. Also, no official confirmation that they are the same species.
I found the scene with the squid touching; even in the worst scenarios, you can find beauty, and wonder.
Perhaps the best episode in years . Pure Star Trek
Humans throwing rocks. We are quit good at it.
2:00 - 2:23 Dr Crusher: "WIll, did you just throw an asteroid?"
Riker: "Goddamn right I did! After what this SOB has done to my ship and my crew she totally deserves it!!" 😉😊
A call back to insurrection: “Will history remember this as the Riker maneuver?” “If it works”
She threw a ship. Then they threw an astroid . I mean omg epic Trek!
Beverly Crusher looks stunning in this series of Star Trek
The second cast bridge crew. I love that techno babble.
I just noticed that the camera shot, the Titan A screaming away from the detonation with her nacelles in the sky, her bow tilted down, is so reminiscent of the shot when the original Enterprise went to her rest.
Has anyone else noticed that the sound they use at 0:30 is the same one they used when the enterprise escaped the black hole in the climax in the ‘09 JJ movie? I feel like I’m the only one and it’s a neat detail :(
Yep it's the sound of the black hole being created in the Kelvin timeline
Sure is😊
It's generally the Kelvin theme. They also used it when they destroyed the Shrike, as well as one or two other times.
I noticed it too. Good catch.
The music in the third minute is just so damn beautiful. One of the things I love about Star Trek.
This season is already epic. I dare say it's on course to be the best season of Star Trek ever.
I would slap you in the face if you said that in front of me for the chance you might jinx it... But I agree with your statement 100%
@@nnnickkk I thought the exact thing as I was typing it. Let us all hope

She fucked around and found out she's no match for Riker!!
A space alien giving birth is what it take to get lights on the ship in the newer Star Trek
Those jellyfish dudes remind me of the ones from Encounter at Farpoint.
2:13 Jack's in here thinking "My parent's friends are cool" 🤣
Now THAT is a "Riker Maneuver".
My mom loves the part where Riker uses the tractor beam to grab an asteroid to slingshot at the Shrike.
Paying off a one liner from a Season 2 episode of TNG. I love it 😂
'FIRE KEEL THRUSTERS! CUT THE BEAM!'
Da Yeet
Did I just hear John Luc FUCKING PICARD say GUN IT?!
Indeed you did!
"Lock on to these coordinates. Fire keel thrusters, release tractor beam."
"Wouldn't it be easier to tell us to tractor an asteroid and calculate a throw trajectory to make sure it hits?"
"This is MY moment, mister!"
I think the idea was to make it as dramatic as possible, if you said; "target a nearby asteroid, calculate an impact trajectory, and release" then it doesn't sound as cool and already tells the audience what he's planning
How cute are those babies?!?!?! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
If that has been Riker or Picard 30 years earlier there would have been a photon torpedo right after the asteroid
I was convinced we'd never see good Star Trek again and then came Season 3.
He shoots....he SCOOOOOOORES!
1:22 Definitely some James Horner influence there. I absolutely loved the music this season.
wrath of khan
"Sir Issac Newton is the deadliest SOB in space!"
Ah yes the boimler maneuver!
Riding the big one, originl idea. Throwing an asteroid at enemy ship, a play right outta the GALAXY QUEST playbook.
And what you forget Saren is my ship is dragging mines!
Riker Maneuver beats Picard Maneuver for uber coolness
1:57
Humanity didnt evolve far from throwing rocks...we just got really good at it.
"But what you fail to realise, is my ship is dragging rocks!"
We’re through running form these bastards! Best Riker quote.
I somehow sense Jack Crusher and Sydney LaForge are gonna be a thing
Yep
You LaForge a diamond by Crushering coal💍😉
Beverly: Will did you just throw an Asteroid
Will: God damn right I did
The music at 1:21 Goosebumps!
that some garry's mod type shit, I love it
Everyone's mentioned all the details that make this scene work so well, but I'll give a shout out to the decision to have all the technobabble overlap. It keeps things urgent, it plays to the idea that these are skilled and smart professionals handling a complex sci-fi machine, but it doesn't drag things out or call attention to itself. Very nice touch.
Excellent use of the Boimler Maneuver by Captain Riker!
Remember, when in doubt Unga Bunga
Vadic: Surrender....
Riker: "Eat a rock, Vadic. We will even spot you one. Bon Appetit..."
Missed opportunity for clever verbal jab at Vadic
That I can see Riker saying.
"Sir, we may have just encountered a bunch of Purrgil!"
The Star ship equivalent of a middle finger.
Riker's Manvure Number Two
Riker snapped that asteroid back so hard.
It now thinks it’s a first year cadet again. 😂
3:10 those creatures look awfully familiar. STTNG Encounter at Farpoint Station.
this entire season was comppete homage to TNG
If you look closely... those were actually the same species as the creatures in Encounter at Farpoint.
