    20:37 This was a ROUGH scene 🫣🤧
His father’s approval meant so much, but he never got it, even with all his success!

I'm glad you liked it! I really enjoyed this musical, I found the way it was told very sensitive.
I also recommend the film "Billy Elliot", which was played by the same actor who played Bernie in this one, he was a child at the time and he's simply amazing!

I love this one! It’s such a 12 step movie. Lovely portrayal of the inner child. And I love that going to rehab is the most triumphant moment in his life. 10/10

And from his experiences, he helped and push to rehab others for their addiction, like Robbie Williams.

I really love this movie! My favorite thing is that it embraces the musical genre and is thus primarily a musical in style before it is a biopic. I can’t help but compare it to Bohemian Rhapsody, and I think Rocketman is vastly superior. Both of the leading men have excellent performances, but the overall film is much better written in Rocketman. Taron Egerton does a great job doing his own singing, sounding remarkably close to Elton. The lifelong friendship with Bernie is also fantastic-Jamie Bell is amazing.

I agree that Rocketman is a better film overall, when compared to Bohemian Rhapsody.

@@kajpagan I agree with you both, I think Rocketman was released closely enough to Bohemian Rhapsody that the two were compared and I LOVE Rocketman, it's more of a feel-good, uplifting movie for me. I like that it didn't try to tell a straight-on biography but used more fantastical imagery to convey the feeling of the characters- it fits Elton's music so well.

Oh my goodness, Kemi, I was singing right along with you! I love this movie so much- Elton John has had an amazing life (his autobiography is excellent, he's very self-deprecating) and the way his music is brought to life feels so joyful and moving. Taran Egerton did a great job embodying Elton's spirit, and putting his own flavor on Elton's songs. This movie is one of those guaranteed feel-good films for me.

Taron Egerton was brilliant in this movie! (loved seeing a young Kit Connor too). I’ve been a huge Elton fan since I was a teenager, I’ve seen him LIVE five times, he is amazing ☺️

Elton…seriously he’s so talented, when you sit and think about it, it’s mind blowing. I sometimes think we take him for granted…he’s always been there, his music has seemingly always been there. It’s easy to forget how mindblowingly beautiful and sensitive his music is. I’m sitting here in tears listening to Your Song and thinking of my mum. What a gift he is to us. Thank you Kemi!❤️❤️❤️

Hey, as much as this is a biopic, take the details with a grain of salt. Dick James did not think Elton was ready for America. The American division of the record company (MCA) heard Elton's album 'Elton John' and saw him as a future star. MCA was interested and wanted him to play in the USA and Dick James was not (Elton also was not ready for that...he thought it was too soon). Dick James only relented when MCA agreed to pay for everything, including handling all the promotions.
Elton was scheduled to play one show at The Troubadour in Los Angeles, and went with his touring band of Nigel Olsson on drums/vocals and Dee Murray on bass/vocals. And the three of them completely killed. He became an instant hit in the USA...so much so that people in the UK thought he was American (according to Bernie Taupin). Later Davey Johnstone joined the band, and that was the sound that took the 1970s by storm. They worked so well together it allowed them to write/record two albums a year, and perform three world tours a year. Drugs (Elton's manager introduced him to cocaine in 1974) and exhaustion eventually caused everything to start to fall apart, starting in 1975.
And Dick James did not invent or suggest Elton's crazy dress sense. Elton did it as a way to get past his repressed, shy personality.

The ending of John Reid and Eltons business relationship in 1998 led to a legal action in 2000. Reid settled out of court by paying John £3.4 million. Reid's company earned more than £73 million from representing Elton john between 1970 and 1998.
Now some facts: Elton didn't take his name from John Lennon he took it from singer long John baldry
Bernie and Elton never split Elton once said " we have never had an argument "
The main actor Taron Egerton was invited and stay with Elton at Eltons home for some time before the movies production
The time line for songs and where they show up is all over the place
This is all artistic license to make the drama work

This is a fictionalized biography tethered into place by a few real situations.
Think of it as how we tend to remember the facts of our lives, but the mists of memory (especially if there is substance abuse and/or trauma) will play havoc with the timeline and we will ascribe intent where none exist while not seeing it where it does. The details are suspect, but the emotions and trauma are real.
Even if this film is like a funhouse mirror reflection of Elton's life, he still recognizes himself in it.
What I love most is him walking in at the beginning like the biggest, baddest, most powerful demon of them all, but over the course of the telling the costume strips away to the real person underneath. It's all show, all defensive armor, all stagecraft. And rehab is just that: strip away the defenses that have accumulated over time like barnacles. You strip down to your vulnerabilities and find you were always enough. In authenticity you find your innate dignity.

I remember growing up in highschool we enjoyed his music but we shouldn't purchase it or play it. Because there was this hush secret about him being homosexual. How silly. Today i have a PROUD collection of his music.
