Apple is way too closed of a system. They don't have an app for Android. So when I'm trying to watch games I missed during the week at work on my phone/ tablet, I can't without going to a shit browser. Netflix has an app on everything. more subscribers and better accessibility = better exposure and growth.

FIFA Women's World Cup will be on Netflix in 2027, If I'm MLS I would leave the Apple TV deal now. It would be a game-changer for the league in years to come.
If you look at other leagues in the US like MLB, NFL and NBA they all have their dedicated channels that are about the league and talk more in depth about players. MLS isn’t there yet because they haven’t had a stable partner, MLB had to take over some of the teams because of Diamond sports going into bankruptcy. Unless each team produces their own content this would help grow the league. Would be nice if Apple TV actually had that type of set up, season is over and pretty much not a lot of stuff going on. MLB usually has speculation who they want to play on what team regarding free agents. Or maybe the can talk about college players that could be drafted like they do in other leagues in the US.
1. Why would Netflix be interested in a deal with MLS? Let's be real, it's no way near the NFL viewership. 2. I would rather MLS sign a deal with Peacock or Paramount + where soccer fans already have subscriptions for Prem or Champions league. Then you get good soccer crossover. 3. I think the Apple deal is aging badly, but the biggest issue, is the price of MLS subscription compared to other sports subscriptions. It's just a bad value for the actual product on offer. They need to make it MUCH cheaper (or free with Apple TV sub).
Problem too is that when you pay for MLS that's all you get. If it was on Netflix like you see now with smackdown/raw wrestling it's just part of your subscription, it's not seperate thing you have to pay. If apple was to continue with MLS the least they can do is add MLS with the apple tv subscription all in one package.

Yeah, fully agree that the spring/summer Calendar just makes more sense for the sports market in America. Having to try to compete with Epl, La Liga, Serie A, College sports, NFL, and NBA directly for viewership/revenue is a death sentence. Only benefit to a fall/winter Calendar would be that it makes the transfer windows less wonky for transaction between players/clubs coming to or from Europe.

That means we still are struggling to get proper infrastructure for the teams to match the crowds they regularly have coming to games. Still a ways to go.

It keeps being said the AppleTV deal is bad and MLS is worse off for. A lot of people I see online didn’t even tune in and get invested until MLS came over to streaming.
I think A lot of you are missing the point. To grow the sport, you need to attract a mainstream audience that is NOT a current soccer fan. The best way to do that is through a mainstream provider. Put it in front of their face, where they have no choice to but click it for curiosity. With over 80 million subscribers in USA, Netflix can absolutely accomplish that 🗣️

@@DavidTrumbly It's great having every game for every team in one place, and as someone who travels a lot it's nice being able to watch games around the world without having to find a choppy questionable streaming site. Other than that I can see how it's been a negative.
@@MLSMoves There is a small potential problem. How accessible will it be for casual fans the MLS needs to grow? If it remains behind a paywall with numerous blackouts and restrictions it will be only slightly better than Apple.
I thought Netflix was on a downward trend. Ever since they started blocking account sharing through IP locks a lot of people stopped watching and/or deleted their accounts, in my area. And most of the original TV shows/movies are just unenjoyable. I don't think I have watched anything on Netflix in 6 months.
I live in Miami and I visit Chile for two months out of the year. Netflix gives me only 2 weeks of viewing from my account since I’m abroad. How would this work watching MLS if you travel outside the US?
Much of MLS attendance is from casual American fans. Many attend the games because there's no college or NFL football to go to during that time period and they find MLB boring during the summer. So if MLS want's bigger outreach, than they need the casuals and not just hardcore MLS fans to watch. That's not easy on a small platform like Apple TV with it's mere 25 million subscribers as opposed to Disney+/ESPN+, Amazon Prime Video, or the king of kings Netflix. Casuals are more likely to already be subscribed to one of those top 3 platforms.
like the saying goes dont put all your eggs in one basket get netflix, but tell univision you can get 2 games on tv and vix plus do a game of the week in espn or abc as long as we have a presence there were talked about on the news remember we need tv and internet presence.
A lot of assertions and little evidence. I'm not saying Apple is doing a great job but swapping one streaming service for another requires a lot of effort. Just saying Netflix would be better requires more than saying, "Everyone one knows...".
The Apple deal seems great for potential international fans, BUT the thing is, other countries have a far far less percentage of iPhone owners, so I can only assume the same with Apple streaming. On the other hand, Netflix is very popular internationally too, which could help better with that market. I would like them to dip their two in, and maybe let Netflix take over a couple of games a week first before fully committing. Then, let Apple strike up a deal to simulcast to the local mls broadcast markets to keep building up the local market, too. I remember as a kid, we didn't have Fox yet in our market, but they showed the NFL Fox games on one of the local channels until we finally got Fox. It could still be the Apple broadcast, but Apple could sell the content to the secondary converage, for the home markets only.
Is there an offer? Isn’t there 7 or 8 years to go? How would they get out of it without paying through the nose to get out? Yes it is not a good deal but as I remember there were no other suitors so they took what they could get. Also, what about Amazon Prime. They have 200 million subs vs 282 M for Netflix and 25 M for Apple, plus Amazon has the money to invest whereas Netflix is not is great shape financially.

MLS needs to be on basic cable networks if they really want to attract non soccer Americans. Like the epl's partnership with peacock/USA Network.
One thing to remember, Netflix did not have an ad-supported subscription option until recently. And that was after the MLS season pass took off on Apple. I'm sure Netflix will revisit taking over the Season Pass once they could figure the potential revenue and expenditures. Another failure is Apple's refusal to develop an AppleTV app for Android devices, which cuts into their potential reach.

What? What a ridiculous take! As if MLS can afford to break a Billion Dollar contract. Being desperate to come up with content leads to make this type of content. Beyond absurdity to even contemplate the idea of a lawsuit for breach of contract. FFS
this is related to everything you mentioned - can we become a top 6 league? and of course can apple+ grow their audience cause you get a discount if you do both apple+ and MLS Seasons pass
Mind u if MLS were to leave Apple and go NETFLIX (and product stays the same) yall would still find away to complain. The Apple deal is the best deal they’ve ever had. Apple deal isn’t subpar the deal before hand was fuckin terrible! All MLS has to do is get a better tv deal cuz Fox sucks! I have them setup a tv deal with CW or CBS so that casuals can finally STFU
The problem for the MLS is because of the still small grassroot community support for the sport, MLS is dependent on media until it can grow the fan base. However, putting the sport behind paywalls with numerous blackouts and restrictions, even on Netflix will not help. Outside of the diehard fans, will anyone care? The USA media? No, they don't think there are enough viewers to even bid on broadcast rights for MLS games. USA corporations? No - they despise soccer because it does not have ad breaks for commercials. The casual fans? No - the MLS and most things soccer are hard to find and you must pay just to take a glance.
@@gregorybiestek3431 MLS isn’t depended on media they majority of their cash from tix sales! Apple doesn’t have any blk outs anyone can access MLS throughout the world it isn’t Geoblocked so their isn’t any blkouts! The casual fan was barely watching when it was on tv now they’re complaining cuz they can’t find it lol!! 40% of games are on AppleTV for free and next year they’ll make sure more viewers here bout that and probably giving out more deals so people can access it
It's not likely that MLS and Apple break it off for now but if neither side sees significant progress this next season then the possibility will increase.
Going on apple was the stupidest idea ever. No one even subscribes to Apple TV for their content. Either Netflix or peacock. Or just go back to traditional television.
@@MLSMoves no it hasn’t lol!! Yall forget how terrible the last deal was!! MLS got no respect would constantly get booted off tv or to another Channel and ESPN+ fucked sucked
I don't think switching to another streaming service would drastically improve MLS at all. You're just interchanging one pay wall for another. And the reality is that non soccer Americans are never going to get into the sport if your expecting them to buy soccer specific packages. MLS games need to be on basic cable networks where non football sports fans are likely to come across them more organically. Similar to the epl partnership with peacock/USA network. Secondly, MLS as a franchise is drastically overpriced. I pay like 50$ a year for peacock and I get access to the top soccer league in the world + all of peacocks tv shows, movies, and other sporting events. MLS is not even a top 10 league in terms of quality. If I had to guess it's approximately in the 15-20 range. Yet, the MLS package is over 100$ for a mid league and you don't even get access to the rest of appletv services.

Why not have MLS on both apple and Netflix. There are available space the league have that are to allocate for the linear tv. Give that to Netflix .
Won’t work. Will have to be one or the other
Since both streaming services are now entering sports. It’s better to ride apple, since apple never failed yet and have more to loose than Netflix.
Netflix would help MLS so much
I agree
Ether netflix or prime
I think something like amazon Prime would be good fit for mls
That would be nice too
why won't mls go back to cable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s too late
What? What a ridiculous take! As if MLS can afford to break a Billion Dollar contract. Being desperate to come up with content leads to make this type of content. Beyond absurdity to even contemplate the idea of a lawsuit for breach of contract. FFS
They both have an opt out clause but I bet you didn’t know nothing about that.
@@MLSMoves Turns out only Apple has the opt out clause. Guess you didnt know that before making the video huh?
this is related to everything you mentioned - can we become a top 6 league? and of course can apple+ grow their audience cause you get a discount if you do both apple+ and MLS Seasons pass
Top 6? , they r barely top 15 now,
@ in terms of revenue or skill?
@UA-camWatcher3000 skill, ,, i think mls is seventh in attendance, in the world
We can be but will we be? Not at the rate we are going
really a great graphics tv content for buffering low graphics really come on mls is fine stop the fire drill
Apple or Netflix people aren’t going to watch compared to other leagues. I don’t watch other MLS games on Apple TV unless it’s the team I support.
Once the TV Rights are done in ‘26 they’ll re-up with Fox or move to ESPN or another network. The casual fan was barely watching when it was on tv now they’re complaining cuz they can’t find it lol!! 40% of games are on AppleTV for free and next year they’ll make sure more viewers here bout that and probably giving out more deals so people can access it
No
Netflix almost everyone has definitely better
I agree
Thats a big yes
Heck nah
Apple TV> paramount plus
They are both terrible
I hardly watch mls since they went with apple !
I hear this a lot
It will never happen. That's wishful thinking
Never say never
It's not likely that MLS and Apple break it off for now but if neither side sees significant progress this next season then the possibility will increase.
Fox?
FOX SUCKS
Going on apple was the stupidest idea ever. No one even subscribes to Apple TV for their content. Either Netflix or peacock. Or just go back to traditional television.
Peacock 😂😂😂 they were never gonna offer MLS a deal!! Apple deal was the best deal on the table . Y’all forget how ass the MLS deal was before Apple
It has aged so poorly
@@MLSMoves no it hasn’t lol!! Yall forget how terrible the last deal was!! MLS got no respect would constantly get booted off tv or to another Channel and ESPN+ fucked sucked
I'd like to see it on Peacock or Paramount, someplace we already access football/ soccer on a weekly basis.
Peacock would be nice too
I don't think switching to another streaming service would drastically improve MLS at all.
Netflix > Apple
100%
Make Apple TV more affordable under $10/per month
Should be free if you have Apple TV
