Great video, really informative. I started on a mini-mal age 36, then got a longboard 2 years in. On reflection longboards straight away would have helped me progress faster. The 6 years on having lived in Newquay surfing longboards for 4 years I borrowed a mates (quite small) short board. I struggled a lot. I was a reasonable decent longboarder who was a total kook on this short board so I sacked it off and went back to what I was good at! But now I’ve got a bee in my bonnet and I’m determined to get onto a short board! So this video was really helpful! Thanks mate 🤙🏽👍🏼
Wanted to make sure I commented and thanked you for your channel. I hadn't rode anything shorter than 8' for years (I'm ~100 kg), and I used your advice to nab a 6'6" hybrid @ 47L off local resale. It took 1 or 2 sessions, but I haven't had this much fun surfing in years. Thanks dude!
Re-started to surf smaller boards (retro's- 7'0s ) like a year and a half ago, Now I got that transition, I feel myself going shorter like real shortboards. I'm only going out on smaller boards when it's sharp and hollow. Kept my love for longboarding, doh.
@@GoliathFins I don't get it why a lot surfers so hard wanne surf with a shortboard on sloppy small waves. It just doesn't surf that well, shortboards are not made for that. Also the reason why soft-top surfing became a trend cause a lot of shortboarders see it as a replacement for a bigger board.
Hi.. I’m a beginner/intermediate. Female 5’ tall and 150 athletic build. I have been surfing a 9’ for 3 years and transitioned to an 8’ foamie a few months ago. I recently picked up a 7’4 Lost Crowd Killer. I can paddle it fine and get out the back and catch every wave but I’m having trouble with my pop up! Can’t seem to got my front leg through fast enough and I end up pearling. Any advice!???? Thank you 😊
It may be the reduced width and volume. I'd say you may be better off with a wider, possibly shorter grovel type board. I'm going to do a second video on transitioning, which will focus on technique.
Sexy af to see our Elements Longboard in the thumbnail Scott - no follow-up in the rest of the video though ;-) We subscribe to every surfer needing a longboard in their quiver for the small days and special conditions.
Thanks. Yes, i totally agree. I regularly ride a longboard. In fact i did a longobard review after this video. I'd love to review an NSP, but unfortunately don't currently have access to one.
An experienced shaper will definately point you in the right direction. But I know a lot of people that have had incorrect advice. This video is just meant as a starting point.

Thanks for commenting, I'm glad I have helped you get more out of your surfing. That's what this channel is all about. Yeeewww.
Really informative and enjoyed getting a glimpse of a real life example of how to transition. Thanks.
Thanks Tara. I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
Thanks for making this video. It was cool hearing your perspective.
Thanks. Glad you liked it. Part 2 coming soon.

Yeah, I struggle on shortboards in small junky waves.

Hi, can you give some info on the Baboon, there’s no details on the BGB shop. sounds like just the kind of board I am looking for 👍
The factory have temporarily stopped production, but we are working on our own version. Available to purchase in 2021
I really enjoyed this wonderful video ❤️👍
