    I have been short boarding for two years now before then I was a long boarder,and honestly it took me sooo long to get the hang of surfing on a shorter board😩!x

      Yeah shortboarding is hard! So glad I’m not the only one struggling! But I have to admit shortboarding is super fun! Can’t wait to practice some more!

    That wax looks like it’s worth a try. Short boarding is so different to long boarding. I’ve got friends that only short board and they struggled once when we all went long boarding lol. So I guess it works both ways. Great video 👍

      Oh that’s funny you mentioned that! I can imagine shortboarders transitioning to a longboard would find it so heavy and hard to manoeuvre! Thanks for the comment☺️

      haha. yeah, it took me a bit to figure out the whole front/back weight balance when I started trying long boarding. But looking at those waves, I guess I won't complain about my crowded SoCal breaks :)

    You are super charismatic and fun. Makes the video a joy to watch! I mainly surf with foamies and have recently started using a longboard. I occasionally use a mid-length but it's so much harder I kinda put it off. This video gave me some inspiration to consider transitioning!

    • @erikassvlogs

      Aw thank you! Yeah I'm guilty for always surfing on my longboard too! But it's fun and exciting stepping out of your comfort zone and surfing something different!

      @@erikassvlogs good on you for doing that! I'll make the move at some point. But I'll do it via my mid length board, I couldn't just go straight to a shortboard.
      Well, I guess, not with this attitude!

    I longboard as well but also want to slowly transition to a short (er) board.It’s tricky cause I don’t know where to start but this was very relatable. I enjoyed it a lot!

      Yeah! I think a fish would be a great transitioning board for us longboarders as it’s a board with still a lot of volume but shorter! Good luck on the transition! (Longboarding is still my fave haha)

    I've been surfing for a year and slowly transitioning from a 7'4'' funboard to 6'7'' shortboard. Pretty hard at first but he extra length and buoyancy on the shortboard helps a little and I'm acing the pop-up now. The biggest problem I thought was keeping up with the speed on a shorter board. You can't just cruise on it but need to actively pump it and move around to keep it moving, which is unusual when transitioning from a bigger board.

  • @petesessa2041
    @petesessa2041 Рік тому

    I went from a 9'6" to an 8'10" and felt that was a short as I wanted to go. I like the ease of paddling and working the board in a more fluid motion rather than what the short board makes you do. Stick to what you feel is your comfort zone in the water. Time on your board is limited. Make the most of it. Good luck.

    The best surfer is the one having the most fun. The surf you’re in doesn’t really lend itself to short boarding. Try a smaller foam board even 7 or 8 foot you’ll have more volume for an easier paddle and you’ll be able to pull some more turns…. All the best from Australia 👍👍🏄🏽‍♂️

    Back in the 90,s I struggled for so long on a 5,9 shortboard just because I liked the colour....thats quite a jump going from a 9 foot board to a 5'9, I cant seem to get away with anything under 6'7...The waves we get here where I am tend to favour a bigger board/minimal..even my shortboard at the moment is a 6'9..well..it was a 6'10 but I missjudged the doorway..)..

      Yeah I have to admit this shortboard was super small! But it's all I had to try out for the video! I'd love to get a fatter fish type board, as it's a better transition board from the longboard! 6'9 shortboard sounds like my kind of shortboard, even if it's had a bit chipped off the nose haha!

    I started on a short board and tried a longboard. Longboard is long Rides but gets boring quick. Short takes skills and drive to get through a long session. I rode a 6.0 short board for a while before I progressed to the five foot boards my advice is ride a six foot short board first get the basics down first when I went under five feet your pop-up is way different because your pretty much dragging your legs before the pop-up

    to be honest...this is the worst idea ever. 27L is a board for someone on a mid-to-high level. If you´re coming from a longboard the best idea would be a 7´ or maybe a 6´6 with AT LEAST 45L if not...youré just You are only hurting your surfing and gaining frustration. But as long as you have fun....that´s the only thing that matter. cheerS :)

    Okay okay okay... Erica awesome video. Great. But as an Australian shortboarder. You need to slow down. You're trying to pop and go far to quick. Try the chicken wing popup. Honestly it will really help. With the shorty... make every move you'd make on a longboard... But exaggerate the living crap out of it!!!! If you're looking into the wave look at the top of the wave. Where you'd look at the beach look over your shoulder backwards. But slow down. Slow big exaggerated movements (for smaller sets) as you progress you need to go from slow and exaggerated... to sharp and quick but smooth while hard as well.trust me you'll understand really quick as you progress. But as for where you are right now... just slow down. Like when I get a brand new board I don't know.... I like to prone it on a few waves just to get to know the boards movement in the water. Then I'll drop knee it for 2 or three waves. I'll turn it hard in this position and really rip at it this way I know its ballance I know it's limits and I haven't even stood up yet.
    Usually within a few waves I'm up and running. But each board is different in very slight ways, and even in some pretty major ways. So I have always thought... get to know the board first. Then once you know how the board moves through the water you can ride it to its full ability.
    Honestly even some pro surfers are only getting 70-80% out of the board they are riding. Get to know the board. The only way you can do that is prone. You can feel every little sway, drift and cut while you're prone. In the drop knee you can feel the response from the board with weight shift. Then popup. Trust me you'll be standing soon that board in a day.

    • @gabrielxai5321
      @gabrielxai5321 2 роки тому +1

      Just very quickly using the chicken wing...
      Think... step (back foot), look to your target, arch your back as far a sit can go, knee up front foot forward, push and stand. If you can do that step by step with a good back arch. You'll stand up on that board fairly quickly.
