  • I will try to use the Arduiono's PWM funtion to stop the Chinese Diesel Heater Pump from clicking. What do you think? Will it work?

Problem is it won't deliver the same quantity of fuel per stroke. These systems are designed to work with a specific fuel delivery per stroke.
There are many silicon isolated containers for these pumps to quiet them down.

Ive just finished fitting a Chinese diesel heater underneath my campervan and the noise of the pump was annoying.
I tried numerous methods of reducing the pump noise from online forums etc.
I found the best noise reduction was achieved by connecting 2 90° elbow fuel line directly to the pump , Webasto make these specially designed for the job at about £5 each , I also suspended the pump in a controversial vertical position with the fuel out side facing up ( some advocate this with a cheap Chinese pump that doesn't have an integrated filter in it ) in a spider's web of thick elastic cord no brackets secured to the chassis , I also wrapped foam around the hard plastic fuel line where it came into contact with any of the campervan body .
Yes you can still hear the pump outside but inside I cannot hear it where I sleep , result 🙂👍

I still don’t understand why it has to be a dosing pump. And not a regular pump with a adjusted regulator valve. Kind of like a fuel injector.

There must be a more simpler and easier way. Why didn't you simulate higher hertz?

Use your arduino to get the pumping rates, with the unit operating, in all modes.
Turn the heater off, use your arduino stored data to pump the heater and collect the fuel… the measure the flow rates, using the arduino to trigger the pump.
Once we know that info we can change the pump out completely,

I think you should pursue this, decelerating the piston before it reaches the end stops must make it quieter. It can't be much more complicated than a brushless motor position sensor using back emf.

Best way is to get rid off those solenoid pumps and install a peristaltic pump instead!😅

Cool stuff! How about just work on the square wave put out by the controller and convert it to a triangle wave that can be done without an arduino? I'm just wondering if the pulse would actuate the pump then deminish the impact at the end of it's stroke. It seems to me that it is the pump "piston" displacement, the volume of fuel, that matters, not how fast it gets there? But then I don't know if that works with a solinoid type device. Cheers!

I like your idea of pumpless. Yet another shot at dampening the noisy pump could be sending a spike of voltage in reverse polarity at the last uS before impact

It's best to explain that Again, it's a dosing pump. It operates on pulse over time, depending on setting.

I put 25ml of two stroke oil in 10 litres of kerosene before burning it in my diesel heaters and the pumps are very very quiet. at 5Hz kerosene burns 15 degrees C hotter at 225 degrees C but with a little 2 stoke oil it brings the burn temp back to 210 degrees C. noise from the all in one heaters is reduced by turning the pump upside down in its rubber mounting so that it is pushing down on the rubber mount not hanging from it.

Have you figured out a way to control output via a thermostat or thermocouple? In my application I’m more interested in a constant temp than being quiet since I won’t hear the clicking anyways, my truck is way too loud while driving 😂

I am planning to use this pump on my waste oil burner. How does this pump work? If you increase the voltage, does on/off frequency increase? Is there a stand alone controller for this pump?

  • @garytaylor9175

HI, I was wondering if this would work with a fuel injector, there is probably and obvious reason why this wont work; however in my head if you have pressure from a conventual pump and you have an injector open for a prescribed duration to allow the correct amount of fuel through is should work.
I have no idea how you would do it, I'm not that clever, its just an ideal.

    • @garyreed354

I believe it would work and probably much quieter you got to do is pressurize the tank with air you don't even need a pump and pulse the injector
