I discovered this elbow move in another video talking about Hogan's elbow. I tried it and was blown away. My swing is totally changed now and I hit way more consistent and solid than ever, at least off my practice mat into a net. This one elbow move fixed so many things for me like weight shift, release power. I feel like I have a powerful compact repeatable swing at this point. Be interesting to see what happens on the golf course this year, a true test. I think it will work but I've had that feeling many times before and was disappointed. Keeping my fingers crossed. I'm glad I stumbled on this video cos it reinforces what I've been doing and also is a better explanation as to why it works. Excellent channel.
Also, during the downswing Moe Norman and Ben Hogan had the lead arm way higher than the lag arm which aided the lag elbow to keep in a bent throwing position right up to impact!
Simple and great explanation. Terribly, most golf teachers don't teach this. I had forgotten about this. Thank you for the reminder. Great improvement in ball striking!!!
Hey Chris. This is the best instruction out there on Hogan. Just fantastic. Thank you brother.⛳
I appreciate that!
I love Trevino, a lot of how I swing I got from him. I started doing this 140 yards and in keeping my right elbow more connect to my body so much easier finding the ball, more consistent, holds up under pressure and much easier to get shaft lean at impact which was huge for me, when I needed to get more out of a club which was not often I would just lift my elbow a little bit at the top and quickly reconnect to my body on the down swing or just club up and stay connected. It’s amazing how much this help me. Thanks for video
You're welcome and thanks for sharing.
Excellent lesson per usual!!!
Thanks again!
Hi Chris, what an insight, this tells me what I suspected too be true, many thanks, top coaching !!
Thanks so much. Glad you are watching.
Awesome video. The "Flying Right" never worked for me because I could never find my way back home. Keep the faith my brother!
Thanks
Fantastic stuff as always Chris I really enjoy all your videos thank you!
Thanks, Have a great day and glad you are watching, you're welcome.
I have been working on this before I saw your video, completely agree. Hogan would describe space between the elbow and the body as “poison.” The reason is that space between the body and the elbow creates difficulty in duplication and under the pressure of a close golf tournament you must be able to easily duplicate the golf swing. Hogan was certainly the author of this elbow technique but from a visual swing thought I like Trevino.
Great video Thx Chris
You bet
Chris this is fantastic. I haven't been able to practice this method yet, but taking practice swings in my house I can feel myself swinging inside to out with the club head passing the same spot consistently. Can't wait to try at the range this weekend.
Would this same elbow move be used with Driver, or is there any additional adjustments to make?
Chris, this is awesome. Thx u. Happy bday America
Thanks.
This will help! Thank you, Chris! I went back and checked my notes from last summer when I started to try and change to a swing more like Mr. Hogan’s. Here was the second entry on my list…
2. Flat swing behind right shoulder. SHORT backswing. I say again, SHORT, SHORTER, SHORTEST FUCKING BACKSWING! Do not let right elbow lose contact with right side of rib cage!
Thank you for the reminder👍🏻
👍
Is it working. I do this but still manage to do something funky at the bottom of the swing where I come so unglued that there's wreckage all over the fairway more grusome than Swede Savage in turn 4 at Indy.
I think there is one thing Chris may not have mentioned, but I could be wrong. Mr. Hogan’s lie angles on his clubs were very flat, like 6-8° flat. The modern clubs aren’t made like that, in fact some are significantly made the other way, they can be upright at -4°. That’s a huge difference. To help fight this, I stand a little further from the ball and bend my torso down from my waist a little more than Mr. Hogan. It gives a little more room and help get the face square. Hope that helps!
Very informative video, keeping the trail elbow close to the body is essential for a swing that stays on a consistent and proper path.
Absolutely
I stumbled upon this feel myself a month ago and was the most consistent I've ever been, thanks for reaffirming im not crazy. Question, I definitely lost some distance, what would you say contributes to more length while using this trail elbow principle?
Better body movement is going to help. I will do a video on it soon.
Love ur videos!
Thanks.
Great instructions again Chris. Your reference to Ben Hogan's glass pane was a great thought and keeping that elbow low helps me. Consistent ball striking is the result.
By the way, I'm from over in the UK and your accent is straight from The Sopranos. (No offence intended!!)
Best wishes.
None taken. Glad you are watching and the info is helping.
you had me at "not making this shit up"😂 this is how you swing people
LOL
Hey Chris, I’m struggling with this. I’m not sure if I’m not rotating enough, but I feel like I get lifted at the top of my elbow starts to fly a little. When I try to keep it stuck to my side, I feel just that, stuck. Can you do a video on how to keep that elbow close and what the keys are. Is it the take away? Is it rotation? Thank you so much for your videos.
Will do. I will make a video ahortly.
@@NoMoreSecrets.BenHogan thank you!
Spot on . And teachers are preaching a high hands bubba Johnson backswing . With flying right elbow. It’s like they introduce another plane to amateurs. You have to re route the club like a club champion not to bring it in steep with a high flying elbow like John Daly or bubba Watson. Never made any sense to me why they promote that to guys who don’t have 8 plus hours a day to work on their swing
Well done Chris
Thanks for the comment. Glad you are watching.
Hi Chris. New to your channel. Like what you're teaching. I would like to see you hit some full swings and chip shots on the driving range for demonstration purpose please.
Thanks for the comment. When I am able to do so you can count on it, but it is going to be a while. I have stated why in several of the other threads.
thanks for reply but havnt seen any comments on that. could you enlighten me as to why .
@@rickyspinks471 My daughter.
hello to train this position can i use a rubber band to keep the elbow touching my core?
You could but it is not necessary. Watch these 2 videos in order to really understand: ua-cam.com/video/JXaBy0VxqNc/v-deo.html
and then this one: ua-cam.com/video/nZYi94Z-gYE/v-deo.html they will give you a clear understanding of what to do.
Those top 4 ball strikers were from back in the day & they are still better than the guys today, even with their shitty clubs, balls, & course conditions. Absolutely amazing. Why aren't the guys on tour today better ball strikers than those top 4 players you mentioned? They've got everything at their disposal, technology, science etc.
It's just most of the guys on tour grew up listening to what I call the 80's and 90's teachers or philosophy's that have still around until today. There has been some improvement in their technique but their movements and patterns are very difficult for recreational players.. Entirely different swing concepts.
Chris
Does the lead elbow stay down in similar fashion in the downswing as it goes around?
Yes
You want those elbows scraping dirt. You want those elbows so low that they glow from the friction created with the dirt. Low elbows means low scores. Low scores means feeling so good you feel like always wanting to play more golf. More golf means more happiness. Low elbows = happiness.
Hogan said “Try moving your body, keeping your elbows at your sides,”
In the video 'BEN HOGAN Five Lessons Training Exercise'
👍
What page?
seems few pros keep their trail elbow by their side in the backswing. matt kuchar...??
Hogan
Trevino
Moe
Jones
Good video Thanks 👏
Thanks for the comment.
5:25 is great 😂
👍
“I’m not making this shit up”….Chris you’re the best…
👍
The less your body parts move the more consistent you become.
Yep.
Jack did ok with his "flying elbow'....😂
He’s teaching us Hogan and how to be a pure ball striker
Jack had an all round game and was the best thinker on the course ever. Chris can’t teach us that
But if we become pure ball strikers we’re part way there
He's clearly addressing ball-striking. And without going into history the war the accident and everything else Hogan could have very well crushed all those but it wasn't to be.
👍
The best tip you'll ever get,and it's free.........
The ball ISN'T the target.
Get your subconscious mind to truly accept that and golf becomes easy!
Interesting. What about Woods?
Same for the woods.
@@NoMoreSecrets.BenHogan I meant wouldn’t Tiger Woods be considered one of the Top 5 ball strikers of all time? He is superb with his iron play
@mayur2272 I think Woods is the best competitor golf has ever seen and the absolute Master of the modern swing teachings.
@@NoMoreSecrets.BenHogan that’s interesting. Perhaps a future video could be dedicated to doing a swing analysis of both Tiger and Hogan’s swing side by side.
@@NoMoreSecrets.BenHogan with Harmon, yes he was working on the “modern swing.” With Haney though, Tiger was in my opinion, incorporating some of Hogan’s principles. The Haney Swing felt more like a single plane. With Foley, Tiger was more focused on getting the club more to the inside of the target line.
Mac OGrady
So is it true to say that Moe and Ben both had a perfect "Single Plane". And if you do not rotate your body then your hands would just come straight up and not to your right side
I think they had a plane that worked for them, but I think golfers would be better off trying to understand handpath instead of planes.
@@NoMoreSecrets.BenHogan True. I do believe the hands are in control of the entire swing. What they do and where they go is purely subconsious.
Lead elbow?
Doing video on it shortly.
I feel so restricted when I try this , what am I doing wrong ?
Can you explain more of what you are doing. Restricted is pretty vague. A little more details please.
@@NoMoreSecrets.BenHogan I tried this before keeping the elbow down and it felt more like pitching or chipping, it felt awkward and weak as a full swing , obviously it wasn’t for hogan , so I’m probably getting something wrong
@@moonface978 This is nothing more than a guess on my part, so let me know if I am close. When keeping the elbow on that orbit, it does not mean to keep the elbow pressed to the side of the body. It just means to keep it on the same orbit as the lower part of the rib cage. Let me know please.
But how does this work with your cardboard box drill?
The card board box is how the body moves. The arms and hands follow the straight lines of the box.
Jon rahm
Flying right elbow like Freddie doesn’t not work don’t do it!!! 😂😂😂
The less connected you are the more variables come into play, there’s a lot of pros who get that high elbow like JT and Boom boom couples
Are you saying you want the elbow down? I don’t understand.
so no more waiter carrying a tray?
The right hand will be under the shaft.
Moe? Seriously? Are you really putting him with hogan and trevino?
Moe for consistency would be hard to argue.
100%, most pro’s & teachers put Moe in the top 3…not sure about Trevino
We're actually swinging up. What goes down must come up. Swinging to a beautiful balanced finish. Swing the handle not the clubhead.
Thanks for sharing.
Have you ever broken 80?
@@beniteztheconman at least 80 broke boyz like you in skins.
