They had this contest in the Year Without a Summer, during the Little Ice Age. They were on a summer vacation, but it was so cold and dreary outside, they were stuck indoors and got bored. So, bad weather gave us Frankenstein. Life is weird.
And they say the little ice age was caused by a volcanic eruption (I think it was Tangaroa?) and weirdly enough also led to the founding of Mormonism and affected a bunch of other world events. Life is very weird.
And if I remember correctly, the Vampire story was actually the story of Dracula that was created the same night, NOT by Lord Byron, but another writer who was present there. They didn't take it very seriously back then, but he worked on the story until he published it.
@@Fulphilment kind of lord Byron did start a story about vampires he dropped it in the end but his physician John polidori borrowed aspects of lord Byrons story on to his own and published it Dracula isn’t in it either that’s another vampire story the vampire created by polidori is a British lord

Frankenstein was heavily influenced by her childhood where her mom and dad neglected her and she never felt like she belonged. Her feelings of isolation are what inspired Frankenstein's personality and story of isolation.
Seth Rogen. Elijah Wood. Jack McBrayer. Evan Rachel Wood. And starring as the corpse... Will Ferrell. I haven't seen an ensemble this big since... Rat Trap. And Drunk History got 'em.
i like how the creator of the show (or whoever the guy is that listens to these people talk) is actually enjoying himself now. I feel like the earlier episodes of drunk history he always seemed pissed off or something.
There's actually no mention of how Frankenstein's monster was brought to life in Mary Shelley's original story, no electricity, no galvanism, no specific method, the electricity and lightning thing only showed up when the book was made into movies. Neither was Victor Frankenstein an alchemist, merely a student of the "Natural Sciences".
Shelley and Byron got bored with the competition. Mary Shelley and Polidori created two of the most famous characters in literary history over the course of that summer.
How is this so high quality and low quality at the same time? They have like a drunk guy telling a story with simple camera work then make it super theatric and dramatic...
I hated Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein, not bc it wasn’t a good story, but bc it hurt my heart. It’s so freaking sad. It’s basically about a child whose parent doesn’t love him. More then that, a parent who finds his offspring to be an abomination. Super heartbreaking. Fcked me up for awhile after reading it.
Actually, in Mary Shelley's novel, Victor Frankenstein *(a college dropout)* never exclaimed "it's alive!" Or laughed *(he laughed upon relief of his creation leaving his home before collapsing into illness from extreme lack of self care in which his friend nurses him).* In fact, I'm not sure if he exclaimed anything aloud as there are no quotations. *(Though possibly he exclaimed, "Beautiful!-Great God!")* After the creature awoke- *(who was **_gorgeous_**-Victor made him to be proportionately perfect, with purposefully beautiful features, and having long "lustrous black, and flowing" hair)* - Victor freaks out over messing up on _the eyes_ of his creature, becomes horrified, and leaves the room to take a nap. He wakes up to the creature by his bed, freaks out again and runs away leaving the creature to figure out life on his own *(who becomes very intelligent).* Of course, later on this bites Victor in the ass- not his creature being very intelligent, but the fact that *_Victor abanDONED THE EQUIVALENT TO A BABY IN A HARSH WORLD THAT ONLY TREATED HIM WITH ABUse!_*
Ya know I never quite got why Frankenstein created his monster by stitching together multiple human body parts from different people. Like that seems like a lot of unnecessary steps if you could just use a single body that's already together.
I’m usually utterly indifferent regarding Evan Rachel Wood but her performances in Drunk History are always great. Also, does anyone know who that English lady is? I don’t recognise her from English television.
Her expression and motion when she says “and nerdiness” KILLS ME
“He was a nerd!” Right afterward got me.
@calowenby1654 me too😂
They blew the entire show's budget on this cast.
And the alcohol
Worth it
Elijah Wood's rates have dropped considerably since LoTR
Really? Lol

ERW's performance was flawless and hilarious. I was amazed at how well she hit every line and was so naturally funny. Hands down favorite episode 🤣
How EVERYTHING should be made: with love, care and nerdiness.
I remember reading the book. It's very confusing. It's about a letter, About a letter, talking About a letter. It was like letter ception. 😂
"Like Mr. Potato Head."
"Only it was a Mr. Humanoido Head"
Should say: featuring Elijah Evan Rachel Wood Wood
John Hickey that’s how I read the title 😂
@Hingle McCringleberry
No, the prancing Percy.
.....Wood.
John Hickey lol 😂 I love that
"He knows what nerds are" That look on her face, LOL
she reminds me of fiona from shrek- like her facial expressions
OH MY LIFE I LITERALLY WAS JSUT THINKING THE SAME THING.
Exactly! I was thinking about Elsa
I was thinking about the fairy god mother's facial expressions in Shrek... but now that you've mentioned fiona.. yeah! Nice!!
BlueStoneTimes people
Omg, I see it!
Evan's facial expressions and acting is the best!!
I need to incorporate "You amazing puppet shits!" into daily conversation.
Rich Fulcher is the best drunk history guest 😂😂
People need to go watch everything he's done. The man is a genius.
Uh wrong. It’s Paget Brewster. I respect your opinion and I agree that Rich Fulcher is great, but objectively Paget Brewster is the best

Victor Frankenstein's mother died of scarlet fever when he was 17, so he couldn't have asked her for pancakes.
Maybe he was smart enough to go to college super early. They aren't specifying more of a timeline than student here, so... wasn't it easier to end up in college early back then
@@GermAntibody He left for the university the same year his mother died.
but now he can bring back the dead and ask for pancakes.
He could try.
Victor worked himself into a delirium & fever by the time he finished the creature...he forgot his mum was dead.
Rich Fulcher needs to do more drunk storytelling. Imagine him recapping the entire Harry Potter series.
A story within a story... like a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I couldn't like this comment enough lol
@@Jersey.D3vil201 finally, someone who gets the reference 😅

Evan Rachel Wood and Rich Fulcher was without a doubt the best, most unexpected team-up in Drunk History.
0:38 Elijah Woods greatest performance ladies and gentleman.
Best one ever. Evan Rachel Wood is over the top
Elijah Wood and Evan Rachel Wood 🐾
i woodnt go there bro
Why wood you?
Was that a flashack story within another flashback story? That's like 2 stories in one *gasps*
*NERDCEPTION*
Well, Frankenstein is a story within a story, so this format is just apt for this story

Run awayyy!!
Frankenstein was heavily influenced by her childhood where her mom and dad neglected her and she never felt like she belonged. Her feelings of isolation are what inspired Frankenstein's personality and story of isolation.
her mom was Mary Wollstonecraft and died on childbirth.
They didn't even bother to put Elijah Wood's name in the description.
“I have my story! You amazing puppet shits!” Good ol’ Bob Fossil.
Aight this episode was especially hilarious! When they looked at the camera?!?! I ROLLLED! 😂
It feels off. I can't imagine Seth without his laugh
Seth Rogen. Elijah Wood. Jack McBrayer. Evan Rachel Wood.
And starring as the corpse... Will Ferrell.
I haven't seen an ensemble this big since... Rat Trap. And Drunk History got 'em.
for 2 seconds i thought Elijah Wood was Will Friedle
Should've got an Oscar
A drunk History WITHIN a drunk History?? Mind blown
Haha this is my favorite cuz Evan Rachel Woods is great in it
Evan always murders it on this show.
"Omg I finally did something, now give me some pancakes!!!"
I dream of the day when I can finally shout this.
Lol Elijah prancing
Rich fulcher is the best guest and no one can convince my otherwise
"Give me some F&%$@@! pancakes."??? Couldn't help myself from laughing at that.
The lip syncing is what kills me the most, that and Kirby’s laugh
I now want a Frankenstein Seth Rogan
i like how the creator of the show (or whoever the guy is that listens to these people talk) is actually enjoying himself now. I feel like the earlier episodes of drunk history he always seemed pissed off or something.
I'm surprised he didn't mention Shelley and Byron were high as fuck.
I was watching Doctor Who and remembered I’ve seen this in drunk history so I came back here to see the differences
This one has less cybermen in it.
Give me some fucking pancakes!!! Working from home so I'm finally watching more Drunk History. This was awesome

Well he certainly did talk about electricity and galvanism a couple of times, I do remember that much
I can't believe a drunk guy didn't get all the details right
With Rich Fulcher, you don't even need alcohol. ❤️😂❤️😂❤️
They forgot to mention that kid from back to the future 2 playing the arcade game is in this too.
This one is good, but the British Drunk History version is even better. If all the Drunk Histories were just about this story, heaven.
I didn't realize the glue that would tie the monster cinematic universe together would be Seth Rogen as Dr. Frankenstein, but I totally see it now.
It's amazing how this show brought out the best performances 😆
But it was Jhon Polidori who wrote the vampyre.
My fave thing is how Victor Frankenstein’s personality is loosely based on Lord Byron and his emo boy ass persona
My favorite origin story about an origin story. You guys are the best.
Actually Polidori wrote "The Vampyre".
Shelley and Byron got bored with the competition. Mary Shelley and Polidori created two of the most famous characters in literary history over the course of that summer.
So, this is like HALF of the actual production?
And then, while in college, you learn about Mary Shelley's mother...
evan rachel wood is sooo good
The absolute funniest so far!!!!! Thank you!!!!
This might be the greatest short video of all time
This one was amazing
Rich Fulcher is hysterical.
why didn't I discover this sooner ?

It was a dark and stormy night in Switzerland and Mary Shelley couldn't sleep because someone had the great idea of staging a fiction writing contest.

I read the book. All that is an exact quote
According to the comments this video may not be entirely accurate...🤔
Trust me it's not. Nowhere in the beginning of the novel is the creature called a "monster", for starters
It's almost like the storyteller is drunk.
Anita Darling was in with a weird crowd before she got that newspaper job.

When is CC going to do "High History "?
I was hoping we’d see Frankenstein’s monster have a bigger part, and it’d be played by Will Ferrell.
"Now gimme some fuckin' pancakes!"
Hold on... Is Victor Frankenstein John Wick? The guy has no faults.
this is better than that mary shelley movie
Elijah Wood will do anything these days: He’ll play a cyborg like Superman one day and then skip around the table in fancy attire.
